Surprised to see there wasn't a topic for these games.
Anyone watch the RGG Like a Dragon Direct?
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii looks amazing. Not gonna lie, looks like GOTY material already! I was expecting a small side game, but this looks like it has as much content as a mainline game.
Glad to hear the positive impressions. I haven't watched any videos or even really read much about the forthcoming game. It's my favourite series of all time so of course I pre-ordered the second I was able to.
Hawaii is great, but it is probably also my least favourite location as where I live has a very similar vibe, so I prefer to play in different places. Majima is awesome so I'm excited to go on an adventure with him and everyone loves pirates! I'm sure there's going to be loads of easter eggs, cameos and wackiness to go along with it. Looking forward to launch and getting going. Thank you, RGG.
I remember playing the first few games of the series on PS2, and since finding out the first game at least has a notoriously terrible dub, before I basically fell off the series entirely until Like a Dragon was marketed like a Series X launch game, and its shift into a genre I much prefer, grabbed my attention.
That game would go on to be one of my favourite games ever, but I bounced off of that game for literally years before I actually sit down and finished it. It has probably one of the worst opening ten or so hours of any game I've played.
Infinite Wealth was one of my favourite games of last year, although I do think side by side with Like a Dragon, for all the leaps forwards Infinite Wealth made in being just a lot more fun of a video game to actually play, narratively Infinite Wealth went just as far backwards. Like a Dragon was made in part to give new people a way into the series after the series had started to feel impenetrable with the number of Yakuza games accumulated over the years, and how some had remakes, others didn't etc
Then Infinite Wealth for some reason relegates the core cast you brought people into the series with in Like a Dragon into an irrelevant B-Plot, brings Kiryu back and makes him the centre of the story, in a story that would be completely meaningless to the new people who joined with Like a Dragon. Just such a strange move, to me.
I have since gone back and played chunks of Zero, Gaiden, Ishiin and Judgment but honestly not finished any of them, as the gameplay to me is much less appealing than that found in the two LAD games.
I will absolutely give Pirate Yakuza a go, but given all the massive games releasing around it, I realistically don't know if it is a game I'll ever finish, or if it'll be one I play for a bit, enjoy my time with but ultimately decide I've had enough and just move on, like I did with those other games above.
