Topic: Is Sony having much bad news or are just people trying to make PS5 seem like a bad console?

@colonelkilgore Yeah I get that, I also have a massive backlog so I tend to subscribe to Game Pass whenever I'm in the mood for it and just want to play some new games. Having a constant subscription is a waste of money in my case. Even still, I'll keep playing games on PS4 because I bloody love that system. Can't imagine I'll ever clear out my PS4 backlog though!

I honestly think it's important to have discussions like these so that we can gain a better understanding of each other. I haven't been on Push Square for a year so I'm not up to speed on what people's thoughts are on PS5 in detail. I even made sure not to join the site again and instantly gush about how much I like Game Pass as I'm sure people are sick of hearing about it. I want people to understand my stance on things as I've understood theirs and hopefully I've conveyed that even if I sounded a bit hostile in my first post. At the end of the day, we're all gamers and we should just enjoy whatever games we want to play on whichever platform we want to play them on.

@render it's difficult to get a proper read on it right now due to the lack of both consoles availability but while the ratio is closer in regards to the current PlayStation 4/Xbox one ratio... I have read that it is wider than at this point in the PlayStation 4/Zbox one life-cycle. I think I read recently that it is around 11.03 million PS5's sold to 6.8 million Xbox Series X/S.

@Voltan I went down the route of having both xsx and a ps5 this time, first time I've ever had two current home consoles. I think the thing about gamepass I've really enjoyed is the ability to dip into games for a bit and have a low threshold for just dropping it and never going back. I enjoyed a couple of levels of the ascent or flight simulator to fly about some areas of the world but if I had bought that game for 30 or 60 bucks, respectively I would have been bummed. Gamepass allows you to dip into moments of games and have experiences with pretty low threshold and I really dig it. I missed a fair bit of the ps3/360 areas so it's great to get a whole bunch of those games built in. When you add in a couple of microsoft first party titles it's pretty decent deal (for now). You can't beat sony for the big titles though!

@LtSarge amen to that brother... Good Times is the key and even if you're (not you specifically... just anyone) having the time of your life on a ZX Spectrum more power to you.

Are we already on to Zboxes? I missed Yboxes entirely, although maybe Microsoft pulled a Windows 9 and just skipped that letter.

personally i have moved from PlayStation ps4 pro to xbox series X because of Gamepass and Microsoft Rewards where they basically pay you to play the console. I will play most of this generation over there and at the end of the generation i will get the final version of the PS5 and then play all the exclusives by then the final versions directors cuts or what ever they will call them by then will be out cheap and on sale

@Voltan I don't know anyone with both systems, anyone I know who games has either one or the other or is a PC gamer. The person threatening to move to Xbox though sounds a lot like all the people here that complained about Starbucks and Amazon not paying their fair share of tax and yet still carried on using those places 😂

@velio84 Yeah that's exactly what I'd do as I already do that with the various TV streaming services. If there's enough stuff to watch on Disney+ then I'll sub for a month and then cancel it again after that month. There's no point in stay subscribed on the off chance that there might be something I want to watch.

I think Microsoft rewards is good they give you points for playing games and with the points you can buy credit on the store which you can put towards anything games controllers consoles subscriptions etc . It gets me trying new games i wouldnt previously consider and i get rewarded for trying them out

Wish sony did something similar

@Kidfried It's not the same thing. For example, it's one thing if you liked a certain video game and I hated it or vice versa. I'm totally fine with that because it doesn't affect me if you like or dislike games. But overcharging for video games is going to affect me because that means I'll have to pay more for video games.

But it's my opinion that it's not overcharging. So yes, a price hike effects you, it effects me too, but I believe that price hike is fair and will impact the video game industry positively. Like I said before, that's my actual opinion. It's completely fair to disagree with me, but it is unfair to state that I'm defending Sony like a stockholder without any reason.

I also believe taxes on luxury products should be higher, more refugees should be allowed into Europe, people should travel less by plane and studying should be more easily accessible for everyone. These are all things I don't profit from, but I believe they are fair still.

You say that Sony isn't going to listen to you if you state your opinion. Yet, that is exactly what they did when they realised that people didn't want the PS3 or Vita stores shut down. They were planning on closing them, but when they heard the enormous outcry from people, they changed their mind. As a result, we're better off because we voiced our opinions. Unlike those people who were fine with the PS3 or Vita stores shutting down because "if Sony finds them to be expensive to maintain then they should shut them down". If everyone thought like that, both the PS3 and Vita stores would've ceased to exist today along with the thousands of games available on there with no other option to buy them because you can't play PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP or Vita games on PS5.

They weren't listening to anyone's opinion. They saw their sales numbers on those platforms rise. They'll say "they listened", by which they mean that they checked their bank account.

I will keep buying PS5 games for full price at launch (which I started it this generation, by the way). Sony sees me and millions of others buy their games at the raised price, and that's what's impacting their decision making.

I don't really have a high esteem of our society with regards to listening to all kinds of people. That shouldn't stop anyone from voicing their opinion of course, and it certainly isn't stopping me!

@Kidfried Like I said to @NedStarksGhost, I apologise if you thought that my post was directed at you. I was referring to those people in comment sections of articles that will defend Sony on anything. I should've been more clear about that.

I respect you opinion, if you're fine with paying more for PS5 games then there's nothing wrong with that. It's your money and you're free to do whatever you want with it. I will personally never support Sony this way as these are just scummy business practices.

@LtSarge Honestly, what is scummy about raising prices when that's in line with inflation.

60 euro in 2006 (price of a launch game for PS3) with calculated inflation is 76 dollar now, exactly the RRP of Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart.

60 dollar in 2013 (price of launch games of PS4) with calculated inflation is 70 dollar now, exactly the RRP of Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart.

I’ve just now logged into this discussion and wow — it really exploded since last night.

There are several posts which I have really appreciated. Too many to comment on. As a overarching observation though, I will say that I appreciate the overall civility with which it has occurred.

I did like the comparison of it being HBO vs basic cable. Personally I have both, but I sure spend more time on HBO despite cable having much more content. My time is limited so I have to ration it to the most high quality experiences if I can.

And I think nobody actually wants to pay more money for games. We’d all love to get everything for free. But it’s just not how the world works (except for whomever it was up there who has gamed the system so that Microsoft is paying him to play games 😅) and I’m willing to put money into a hobby I value requisite to the level I feel that it’s worth it. But everyone is in a different place financially. For the user earlier with 3 sons, GamePass makes sense. For me, I work hard so I can enjoy a few well-earned joys in life from time to time (although I watch for sales and try not to be an idiot with my money) and so I’ll pay full price for some games because I can usually afford it. And I don’t do concerts, expensive beverages or eateries, lots of travel, fine clothing, or others places to dump discretionary funds into. Gaming is basically my main place to blow money just for kicks. Sorry if I’m part of the problem 😅. But I’m pretty sure I still spend a lot less than many gamers do. I love finding a good deal too!

Nevertheless, I’m not opposed to getting GamePass too and an XSeX. I just need to see something worthwhile, as others have said. Probably next year they might happen. But at this point my time is worth something too. In fact, it’s my most valuable commodity. So I can’t use it on something unless it is really worthwhile.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

LtSarge

@Kidfried So your reasoning is that it's okay because it falls in line with inflation. So how come not all companies are doing it? Why are Xbox and Nintendo games still the same price? And how come prices aren't raised each generation if inflation should be taken into consideration?

LtSarge

Voltan

@Kidfried What makes it look bad is that not everyone is doing it (yet). I agree with you, even though that makes it kinda mad expensive for some markets (wages here in Poland aren't exactly caught up to the west, while games prices are the same).

Voltan

Kidfried

@LtSarge I don't know about the place where you live, but Switch games are actually 10 or 15 euro more expensive here than the Wii/U games used to be. That price hike is even more impressive if you consider that some games used to be even cheaper handheld games, but are now sold for the price of AAA console games.

And Nintendo even stopped pretty much selling their best sellers for half the price after a few years, which they used to do (Player's Choice and such). At least with PlayStation you can choose to wait a year until the price drops immensely.
I pretty much stopped buying games for my Switch, because it was getting a bit too expensive for me. But that's my personal preference. I'm not saying Nintendo is scummy because of raising their prices, just that I'd rather use the money to buy other games.

Xbox is not doing it and that's very nice for anyone who owns the system. Obviously has a very attractive financial proposition, also with its GamePass service. But I think that's more of a case of Microsoft offering great value, than it is of Sony being unreasonable.

It's not that black and white, where one is great, so the other has to be bad. Sony offers a great value, but from a financial viewpoint Microsoft offers better value.

Basically if you love AAA story-driven single player games than you own a PS. You get the very best multiplatform titles like The Witcher 3 and RDR2 PLUS Sony gems like God of War and The Last of Us Part II.

If you don't, then Xbox is over there.

😝

It course there is also PC and Nintendo but I'm not interested in the former and the latter's main IP don't appeal to me at all but that's become I'm an adult and not a little kid.

The PS5 is a great console and has a big future ahead of it. I'm both happy and lucky to have one.
