Topic: Is Sony having much bad news or are just people trying to make PS5 seem like a bad console?

First was the two director's cuts (Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding), then the heat "problem" with the new PS5 new model, now Horizon Forbidden West won't have a free upgrade for people who can't afford a PS5 right now and have to play on PS4, or will have to get a more expensive edition.

What's happening? Is Jim failing with us or are the media/fanboys trying to make PS5 look like a bad console?

I was so hyped to get a PS5, but almost every day there's news saying something bad about Sony and Playstation.

I don't even know if still worth getting a PS5, because a console has to be much more than a platform to only play exclusive games and with the strategy they're using, I'm really confused.

Though I don't like Xbox enough to buy one, the console environment seems so much better than PS5. I find Smart Delivery so amazing, for example. Why can't Sony have something like that?

I'm not trolling when i say its entirely jim ryans fault. hes been a terrible CEO and depreciated the quality of the brand since its headquarters moved to california . its no coincidence that ever since he took position the quality of not just the ps5 but the ps4 has been in decline. who else is in charge here ?

Pulling a portion of what I posted already about this as a comment for the article on here...

"Yes, it sucks. Yes, they deserve to be criticized for it, especially when they stated it would be free and the launch game wording is a really weak loophole. Still, is this something you would give up the great story driven games and go somewhere else? For me? No, there's a reason why I have a PS5 and it's because of the games. I don't have to like the people running PlayStation, but at the end of the day stuff like this shouldn't get in the way of enjoying your PS5 and their games."

I don’t think PlayStation’s (the console or the games) quality has been in decline. I also don’t think there’s been any “bad news” for Sony (other than some delays but that’s everybody these days, especially since Cyberpunk).
As for news for the gamers - yes, the HFW’s lack of upgrade options is weird and disappointing. And yes, what the competition offers seems a lot more friendly in that regard - enough that you’d think a lot of gamers would switch platforms because of it but so far it’s not really happening.
I do hope they reconsider some of those things, even if they’re not really my problem, but ultimately it’s all about the games and PS is still the best in that department. Can’t wait for the showcase next Thursday.

The Spider-Man and Ghost paid upgrades I think aren’t a real issue. The teams have had to work on the games to improve them so I see no issue with paying for it. Patches on games like the PS4 version of Ratchet and Clank to improve to 60fps were welcome though.

The HZD pricing is a bit ridiculous though. I get having to pay to upgrade PS4 to 5 because the base games are different; everyone would just buy the PS4 game and upgrade otherwise. It’s more the fact this gen has the prices of games set higher. It may well be justified seeing as we’ve been paying similar prices for games for almost 20 years but when consumers now see Microsoft as giving so many games for “free” (with GamePass) then the jump in price seems “unfair”.

@Chief_Forasteiro so I personally think all the supposed bad 'news' prior to the HFW upgrade decision was simply hot (un-heat sync'd) air. The £10 upgrades for the PS5 Directors Cuts just bring them in line with the PS5 pricing... otherwise everyone would simply buy the PS4 version and immediately upgrade.

The new 'hotter' PS5 model apparently still runs cooler than the Xbox Series X, though Austin Evans and his phonies choose to not mention that fact.

You say that you don't buy a console for exclusives ... which is perfectly fine as you get the same third party games on PS5 as you do on Xbox Series X... ASWELL as the frankly superb Sony First Party exclusives. And not only that... even though the Series X is apparently SO damn powerful, over 50% of 3rd party games run better on PS5.

I'll be the first dude to jump ship if/when Microsoft finally make Xbox an enticing proposition to anyone other than penny-pinchers (I did during the 360 era) but as far as I'm concerned if you only want to game on one current gen platform... and get the best assortment of available games on one current gen platform... its PS5 for at least the time being. Its HBO vs basic cable right now.

@velio84 yeah it depends on Microsoft's (not Xbox) appetite for it really. If/when Gamepass finally wins out and MS has a gaminv monopoly... you can bet your bottom dollar Microsoft will make gamers pay.

Wouldn’t that cause havoc with the five year plan you already have for what to play next though?

@colonelkilgore When I was on the Xbox One with Game Pass, I thought "wow this is great value" but when I dug deeper into the games, it was rare that the stuff they added was amazing (most of the big hitters I'd played). Sometimes I played something I really liked (or in the case of Outer Wilds, absolutely loved).

Mostly, I feel Game Pass gets praise for value over substance. And you just know the price will go up once they think they can get away with it.

To keep on topic with the PS5 discussion, I am far more than happy with my PS5 purchase. I've been loving every minute of the console. Admittedly I have had a backlog of games, but the PS5 exclusives have also been brilliant. For whatever mistep Sony makes, they do make up for it with their library. I am way more excited for the PS5 Showcase next week then I have been for any Xbox E3 conference.

@NedStarksGhost yeah that's pretty much my sentiments exactly. Who knows, once Xbox get these 'quadruple-A's' churning out and they'll be on Hamepass day and date... it could be different... but right now 8 month exclusivity on The Falconeer and The Medium isn't gonna cut it. I do really fancy Death's Door but it isn't on Gamepass anyway... and will 'probably' come to PS5 eventually anyway.

@NedStarksGhost @colonelkilgore I wonder if GamePass affects sales of other games as lots of Xbox users I know are reluctant to pay for games thinking it could be free at some point anyway.

Thrillho

colonelkilgore

@Thrillho we've seen that it does already... there have been numerous articles about recent 3rd Party releases where they have sold at a 80%/90% - 20%/10% ratio on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S respectively.

Well considering how almost nobody can still find one yeah it's a pretty bad console. I honestly don't see what all they hype is. It's just a slightly beefed up PS4 with alot of the games you can already play on PS4. Big whoop!

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" Optimus Prime

NedStarksGhost

@colonelkilgore Ah yeah the elusive quad-A games that were promised day one that are still yet to show any gameplay, but they're coming day one to Game Pass so that makes for a great deal.

@Thrillho I would imagine it must do for those with no deal in the chain at release for Game Pass.

NedStarksGhost

NedStarksGhost

@Zeldafan79 I mean, "slightly beefed up" is a bit of an understatement. You couldn't get 60fps Ray Tracing on the PS4 on Spider-Man. The hardware is far superior to the PS4, and PS4 games (when patched) run miles better at 60fps, it makes a huge difference to the experience.

NedStarksGhost

@NedStarksGhost I use the term (Quadruple A) sarcastically... they can't even compete on the AAA exclusive front, yet they call their shot with AAAA... on this side of the gaming spectrum it's just a hilarious flex, for those in 'the nile' it's their hope.

@colonelkilgore oh don't worry I picked up on the sarcasm! Agreed, it's hilarious. Halo Infinite launching without co-op, but that's okay as it's on Game Pass! Thanks Philly Spence!

@velio84 yeah there was a guy from Ubisoft on a podcast I listened to a while back and he was like: "yeah... 'we' (Ubisoft) don't like Gamepass".

Although a different company to the ones you mentioned, I'd imagine they share a similar sentiment.

Lol, the PS4 (& Xboxone) were already antiquated when compared to their contemporary PC equivalents in 2013... the PS5 (& Xbox Series X) compare far more favourably with today's PC's than their predecessors ever did.
