I tried to resist the temptation to lash out more cash on a game I have played but the review videos had me hooked, I loved the original and this remake is brilliant it really is stunning,

It's a wet weekend here in the UK so I am planning on getting a few hours in

Anyone else buying this?

I loved the original and was looking forward to the remake. I'd kinda sworn off AC games as found them increasingly generic and soulless, hated Shadows.

Positive reviews tempted me to dive back in and wish I hadn't. The game looks gorgeous, but:

  • doesn't feel particularly polished, bugged quests, janky camera
  • the camera is far too close to character and there are no options to change this
  • same issue with the sailing, og let you zoom out (i think) and all i can see is the bloody boat! Naval combat is also not as i remember

I think I'm just over the whole generic ubisoft template which just feels soulless and dated and will remember this the next time reviews are good.

Resynced is alright, but I still retain my stance that it never needed a remake. I think Ubi only remade Black Flag because it was really popular and they knew it would sell brilliantly well. Of course it looks pretty and it trims all the fat from the original game. However, I get the feeling that if I went back to play the original game I'd enjoy that way more. Game design was more straightforward and predicated on simple fun in 2013, and I wouldn't be surprised if Resynced was more complicated by comparison.

There's a critic who managed to play through the original and Resynced in the space of a week and they found the original game far more enjoyable. Not that this would be my experience or anybody else's, but I do trust this opinion because I do believe games pre-2014 were far easier to play and enjoy. The industry hadn't yet been obsessed with open worlds with endless chore-like activities.
