I don't think we're getting that much. Way less. One of things max.

@Voltan ah okay, I thought that Demon Slayer game was more of an action-adventure for some reason… I’ll have to take a second look.

@Kidfried if it were a State of Play I’d be satisfied with the one… but with a Showcase (something that is ‘basically’ Sony’s 2021 E3) I’d be disappointed with less that what I’ve mentioned. Still, wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been disappointed, so I’m not saying it’s guaranteed at all.

@Kidfried I’m gonna say 2 (TLOU not being there).

Ideally, we’d also get:

  • Bluepoint purchase confirmation and unveil their next project
  • Guerrilla Games ‘multiplayer’ game reveal
  • more Forspoken gameplay
  • more Final Fantasy XVI gameplay

Best Case Scenario:

  • MGS Remake or MG & MGW: SS Remake reveal
  • Silent Hill reboot reveal

I think we can get rid of Forspoken and Final Fantasy XVI as Square Enix have a 60 minute showcase at Tokyo Game Show on October 1st. If we are to see anything of those games in the near future I'd imagine it would be there

@Keith_Zissou as a huge MGS fan I'd expect no less from you Keith. Obviously there is nothing to hang our hats on in regards to actually expecting anything MGS-related... but those rumours just won't go away, so who knows 🤞.

... and yeah, imagine Power Stone but with Kratos, Aloy, Nathan Drake et al as the combatants... and obviously online too.

What if there's a new Naughty Dog game announcement and it's not TLOU multiplayer? 👀
Either way, there's been nothing from them in over a year so some kind of appearance seems likely?

I think it's fair to expect TLOU Factions. With the rumours of TLOU remake all but confirmed, they probably want to space out those announcements. So getting a Factions reveal next week is plausible.

GOW has to be there as well.

@Shepherd_Tallon talking (as we were on a separate thread) about the potential for awesome games to come this gen… I’d be interested to know what your expectations might be for the Sony Showcase next week (if any)?

Personally I hope there's not a lot of remakes announced, I'd rather have new stuff
I also wonder how much of the show will be games that were announced last year but we haven't seen much of 'em since. God of War is an obvious one and I 100% expect it to be there, but there's also stuff like Pragmata, Ghostwire etc. The latter was originally supposed to be coming out next month, I believe, so I suppose it might make an appearance.

@colonelkilgore Good question.
Usually I try to keep my expectations in check, but I'm letting myself get a little excited for this one.
I'm very happy with the games I have on my PS5 right now, but I'd love to see a few teasers for the next year or two. They have a lot of kettles on the simmer right now, so I'm really interested to see what's in there.

Other than that, I don't know if they need to show more Horizon gameplay at this point, but I'm sure they'll show something of that and I'll be a drooling mess afterwards.
A God of War reveal, even if it was just a hype trailer, that would get the excitement levels up a few notches.
Maybe something from Naughty Dog's Factions game. The only PvP game other than Mario Kart and Goldeneye that I was ever any good at was Factions. I'd really enjoy seeing something of that.

Everything after that would be a bonus. I know we complain when they show stuff too early, and then we complain when they don't show enough, but I'd like to see some hint of what's coming over the next few years.
Of course I'm always going to be curious about what kind of bundles will be coming in the future regarding PSN/NOW/Funimation/Crunchyroll. I use Funimation quite a bit so I'd be happy for the opportunity to bundle all of that in to one sub.

But yeah, other than that, anything else would be a bonus, as I said.
I'm just really excited to see what's next. I'm aware a lot of people are unhappy with PlayStation for various reasons, and many of those reasons are valid, but I'm really impressed with this first year of PS5 so far. My PS4 didn't do much for the first year that I had it, but my PS5 is switched on every single day unless I'm not at home.
If that's year 1, I can't wait to see what years 2 and 3 are like, and I think/hope that all starts on Thursday.

@Shepherd_Tallon yeah I think that's an important distinction when judging the PS5 so far... how it actually compares to the first year (or 10 months as it stands right now) of consoles past. There was obviously the whole pandemic situation that previous consoles never had to deal with during their first year too.

All in all, I'm pretty impressed in the first year given the external factors at play and feel real positive that Thursday will give us some genuinely exciting prospects for the next couple of years.

Shepherd_Tallon

@colonelkilgore I had PS4 the first Christmas it was out. It was the following Christmas before I had Dragon Age, and that was the first game that I was truly excited to be playing.

Hopefully Thursday leaves us buzzing.

I wonder if they'll announce their competition to Game Pass. Didn't Jim Ryan say they have something in the works?

I'd be disappointed if they show much if any HFW, it's had more than enough marketing now. Focus on stuff we haven't seen much of.

NedStarksGhost

colonelkilgore

@NedStarksGhost yeah I could do without any HFW, Ghostwore Tokyo, Pragmata but have a feeling they'll be turning up... as long as we get some unseen (ie God of War), some unannounced (ie Metal Gear Solid Remake) and some unexpected (?) though, It'll make up for it.

NedStarksGhost

@colonelkilgore if MGS remake is announced then honestly the other 30-35 minutes could just be pure white noise and I'd be happy.

NedStarksGhost

colonelkilgore

@NedStarksGhost so from a purely selfish perspective I would love ‘it’ to be Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake remakes (but remade like modern fully realised 3D games) as I’m currently playing through the series and really want to know Snake’s story prior to Metal Gear Solid. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t also be thrilled if ‘it’ was ‘just’ Metal Gear Solid though.

@NedStarksGhost Regarding the competition to Game Pass, I believe Ryan said their solution would be unique to PlayStation.

I'm expecting a Funimation bundle, or at a stretch a streaming service for legacy titles, but whatever it is I would be very surprised if it tries to do exactly what GP is doing.
