@JohnnyShoulder i hope im right assuming that its because of its late release date. Not that i really care about game awards at all, but i would just like to see it get a single player, mtx free sequel. The more praise and awards it recieves the better the chances are for that.

@ellsworth004 Yeah, I never pay too much attention to awards either, but it would've been nice. It won a bunch of E3 awards during its press hands-on, but if it was releasing on a deadline then it might've been overlooked on that technicality. Some further nods might be forthcoming.

That being said, if I'm totally honest, I'm not sure whether it did anything groundbreaking or truly deserving of an award. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent game, one that shouldn't exist under EA's tyrannical rule, but it doesn't exactly do anything new; it just mashes together a lot of what worked in other games. Maybe some nods for its cast would've been well-deserved, particularly Debra Wilson. If they don't get acknowledged at whatever their industry's annual awards are, that'd be the true crime.

@RogerRoger with sekiro getting goty it was just weird. Personally i love sekiro, but with the difficulty its hard to see it getting goty. I wouldnt of expected star wars to win a bunch of awards, but some nominees would of been good.

@ellsworth004 Oh, agreed. I think a lot of folks are going "Er, what?!" over that victory and so yeah, in that context, a couple of nominations for Star Wars would've been nice.

@ellsworth004 Not sure what the difficulty has got to do with a game being awarded GOTY? Surely if its a good game and it got rated highly, it doesn't matter how difficult it is?

I'm obviously biased but I'm chuffed to bits it won. I really wish people wouldn't **** over it because the game they wanted to win did not win. It was the same last year when God of War won over RDR2. And it will probably be the same next year (does a big sigh).

Apparently this and Pokemon did not get any nominations because they came out after the cut off date.

@JohnnyShoulder myself personally have no problem with the difficulty and i think its a really great game(my avatar is a pic from sekiro). I just was really surprised to see it win goty, i figured fan base would be divided because of how hard it is. Im actually happy to see a from software game win that award, they are my favorite developer. I wasnt mad that star wars didnt win by any means, just found it strange that it wasnt nominated for anything. As far as the cut off date from what i read anything before the 16th was eligible, star wars released on the 15th. But anyway, im not trying to start an argument i just figured it would get some kind of recognition.

@ellsworth004 I read it had to be out before the 15th, which is when this and Pokemon was released and why they did not get any nominations. I don't think there is anything else to be taken from that.

I wasn't having a go or anything, just a bit peeved at the reaction from some circles that it was not worthy of winning GOTY.

@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, whilst I haven't played Sekiro (or any of the other nominees) I was simply noting the perceived division towards the win, not agreeing with it either way. I fully expected Death Stranding to be crowned, so it was a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. Sparking debate is a good thing, and I hope its victory leads to more people trying it for themselves (and agreeing with you!) but otherwise, you're right, the internet takes things way too far and way too personally sometimes.

I thought I saw one nomination for it

@RogerRoger Yeah wasn't having a go at anyone in here really, sorry if it came across that way. When I saw the slight mixed response to DS doubts began on whether it would win such an award. And i wasn't even paying that much attention to it, I didn't even know Sekiro was up for any awards.

@JohnnyShoulder No, you didn't at all, and as a fan of many oft-overlooked things (or likewise, things which people don't think deserve any praise or recognition) I totally got your sentiment.

God Jedi Fallen Order is too good, played 1.5-2 hours last night and it is potentially one of my favourite games this year so far, I am playing on Jedi Master and it is the perfect balance between enough ease to make me feel relatively powerful yet gives me more than enough of a challenge.

My only gripe has been some minor nitpicks with the animations, as the typical evade animation has way more frames than say your typical evade from a Soulsbourne game which makes it hit and miss at times which can make it frustrating and the way Cal moves in general can be a pain sometimes but overall this game has been a very polite surprise and I am thoroughly enjoying it so far, would recommend it to anyone interested.

How is the backtracking in the game? I read one review last night that criticised the amount of backtracking when you go back to your ship or revisit areas. But someone in the comments section said shortcuts kinda rectified this.

@JohnnyShoulder It is like backtracking from the days of Metroid Prime and Castlevania, it isn't bad as you are constantly unlocking new abilities which help you access new areas in each planet, I am a fan of backtracking as it gets me even more immersed in the world as I am familiarised with it's layout and landmarks, there is no greater feeling than finally reaching somewhere you died trying to get to at the start of the game due to finding a new ability.

The only minor nitpick is that it isn't always as clear as it should be where you can and can't go, but that might just be down to me playing at half 11 at night after a 10 hour shift haha.

@DonJorginho Glad you're enjoying it. I did wonder how you could be so full of praise for Jedi Master difficulty, but then you mentioned a comparison to the Soulsborne games, so I'm assuming your level of experience is far greater than mine! Here's hoping you continue to enjoy.

@JohnnyShoulder Honestly, there's about as much backtracking as there is in any open-world sandbox game (except here, there are five mid-sized sandboxes, instead of just one big one). The shortcuts are there and are signposted if you know what to look for; perhaps those who gripe about backtracking simply missed them, or are fans of more linear adventure games. Either way, I never found it obtrusive, even during the post-credits mop-up when it was basically 100% backtracking to find everything I missed.

@RogerRoger My biggest achievement is completing Bloodborne but I wouldn't say I am that skilled haha! I have had my fair share of deaths (around 7 so far I believe?), But I can happily say I defeated the big Ogddo Bogdo on my first try on Jedi Master.

I think it is the perfect mix of near brutal difficulty with a rewarding sense of power, there is no shame in playing on lower levels as the game is intended to be played in anyway, my girlfriend plays it on Story Mode or Jedi Knight when she feels confident so that has shown me both sides of the spectrum but it is enjoyable both ways and I hope you enjoyed it (If you have finished it yet that is haha)

DonJorginho

RogerRoger

@DonJorginho I've finished it twice. The first time, I started out on Jedi Knight (having never played a Soulsborne game before, but being proficient enough) and struggled all the way to the final boss, at which point I admitted defeat and lowered the difficulty to Story Mode in order to see the credits. Second time through, I just kept it on Story Mode and had an absolute blast; for me, this is a Star Wars experience first and a game second, so I won't let challenge get between me and the cutscenes!

Congratulations on defeating the Oggdo Bogdo first time! He was tricky, for sure. Glad you've found it strike a perfect balance of difficulty and power for you; here's hoping you enjoy seeing it through to the end, and it'll be interesting to read what you make of the final two boss fights.

@DonJorginho @RogerRoger Cheers guys, I think the reviewer may have missed a shortcut or two then!

@RogerRoger Ah nice, I think once I complete it I will do another run on Grandmaster to push myself, and if I find it too hard I will drop it down to Jedi Knight to just explore at my own pace.

Thank you! He is a tricky bugger for sure with his constant bite attacks which at first caught me off guard, but after running away and allowing myself to get used to his pattern it made things easier.

And I will have to let you know regarding the last two bosses! I got the second sister down to the most health you can get her down to in the first encounter so I hope I don't struggle too much later on haha.
