I thought this was an interesting subject that Gamer83 brought up in the Gear of War article.
@Gamer83: I hope that you dont mind me making a thread about this. I am kinda interested in what others think about this.
To quote Gamer83
"This is another big announcement from MS though, and Sony still can't sort out when a freaking first party racing game that was supposed to be a day one title will launch. Get it together, cut down on the indie stuff, announce some big AAA retail games that actually take advantage of this $400 powerhouse hardware, buy some damn third party exclusives and put up the cash Acitivision wants for Crash Bandicoot already. All I keep from Sony is 'we have games,' all I keep seeing from MS is new game announcements. MS is killing it right now and even Nintendo has been more active on the spending front. If Sony doesn't want to be facing another whole generation of chasing the competition it better wake up. We're fortunate that early third party games seem to be taking more advantage of PS4's hardware, that will change if PS4 numbers start dipping below 2013 Wii U numbers and with no games, that's possible."
My thoughts on the subject is that I think the reason we keep hearing more news on Xbox One games is that as of right now Sony is in a comfortable position, in sales they are at least 1 million units over Xbox One the last time I check. Plus MS hurt its rep big time with the whole DRM always online fiasco. To me it seems like all the game announcements for Xbox One are sort of a damage control tactic by MS. We know the games are coming for PS4 people are satisfied with their systems Sony doesn't need to continuously convince people why to by one like MS does.
What do you guys think on this subject?

Well, all 12 studios are making Ps4 games. So, i think they are saving ammunition. Microsoft needs every good news they can get. In my country the PS4 is sold out till march/April. Every new shipment is sold out in a day. The hype is enormous even non gamers want a PS4.
The xbox One isn't selling bucket loads. In my country ( Yes yet again) i asked many retailers about the PS4. Sold out, but they said i can always pre order a Xbox one. I asked them if the first shipment was sold out and it wasnt. Some stores are already using Xbox one game shelf space and replaces it with PS4 games... This is why Microsoft is investing bucket loads of Money in exclusives because they are losing ground.
Oohw and why shoot your ammunition now when you can use it on the E3 ?
Although I wouldn't voice it as angry or vocal as Gamer83 did on various occasions, I must say he does have a point, in a way. We well informed Pushsquarers know that Sonys 1st party studios are all busying themselves with PS4 games, but the general public may very well not.
I can see why Sony would be so mum about the games coming, because right now, the PS4 sells like crazy and will continue to do so, regardless of games, but at least 2 or 3 more announcements or even gameplay of already announced games (I'm looking at you, Mr. 1886) wouldn't hurt and also show the early adopters why they shelled out 400 bucks for a PS4 that seems to suffer from a AAA drought just now.
Sure, Tomb Raider, Thief and inFamous are right around the corner, but I have less than zero interest in Thief, so show some more jewels that are to come.
Otherwise, it may indeed happen that the sheep on teh interwebz will all go "ZOMG; X!!11 Hez all the GMAES!"
So show some solid stuff to calm us!
That said, I have a feeling e§ will indeed be spectacular.
Well, PS4 games I'm excited about... Thief, inFamous: Second Son, MLB 14 The Show, The Order 1886, The Evil Within, Metal Gear Solid V, Kingdom Hearts 3, The Witcher 3 and, of course, Uncharted. That's in addition to already owning Killzone: Shadow Fall, Assassin's Creed IV, Injustice, Need For Speed Rivals and Tomb Raider. So I guess I shouldn't say there's a lack of AAA games, but there is a lack of AAA, system-selling exclusive games is really more what my point was, and I guess I should be more clear with that. As far first years go, the PS4's looks set to blow away the horrendous year one that PS3 had, frankly it took that console 3 years to actually be worth owning and it has momentum right now. The thing is, I'm admittedly pessimistic by nature, I just want to see Sony keep the foot on the gas. When you look at what MS has in Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Halo and now Gears, those all have big potential. Sony needs to keep up with the announcements. My main concern is, the PS4, like PS3, is the most powerful console of its gen, but last time around MS got so far ahead that it took years before third parties put real effort into their PS3 versions. I don't want to see that happen again, right now third party support is strong, but if Sony starts falling behind MS because of hype and the promise of big future games like Gears 4, I'm nervous we'll start seeing third parties use the X1 as the lead platform. That's not a good thing.
I do maybe go a bit overboard with the hyperbole sometimes, I don't mean to make it sound like PS4 has no games or that I'm not happy with the console, I actually am. Again, it's just that I'm a pessimist and I'm constantly seeing MS and even Nintendo making moves, especially with third parties and Sony can't even get Evolution to get a damn racing game out that was supposed to be a day one release alongside the PS4.
Interesting Tasuki, I was about to open up a similar thread today, but you beat me to it! So let the discussion commence.
Quoting Gamer83: "all I keep seeing from MS is new game announcements. MS is killing it right now and even Nintendo has been more active on the spending front. If Sony doesn't want to be facing another whole generation of chasing the competition it better wake up."
I don't want to sound fan boyish (which I am not as I am still quite fresh convert from MS) I hardly see any MS game announcements and if, I couldn't care less. And judging what is there already on each system I also don't see any appeal of the Xbox One. Their OS needs heavy patching, hardware failures appear to be in higher %ages than PS4 and really if my console isn't working properly to begin with I couldn't care less for games. The games available on Xbone One, at least to me and my personal taste, are absolutely uninteresting. Ryse? Boring. Killer Instinct? An unfinished game that you can opt to pay for to get the full content ... at one point. Forza? Simulation aspects are sub par compared to GT6 and the content has been cut heavily from earlier Forza iterations, also there are those "pay to win" and "pay to actually receive a finished product" mechanics at work I so despise. Again all personal taste. And don't get me started on all the features the One has that won't work anytime soon in europe, or don't matter anyways. Or 720p issue?
Okay I got a bit carried away here, but what I wanted to say is: what is so awesome that MS is announcing? Titanfall? Gears? Titanfall will be overhyped mediocre trash, being reviewed in the 6's and 7's - I would almost dare to bet on that. Gears of War is just more of the same, as is Halo. But hey maybe that's just me being burned out of their franchises after 7 years of MS. Still I don't see at all how MS is "killing it". And Nintendo? Finally they awake from their slumber and one year headstart and do SOME advertising and developing for their sinking ship that is the Wii U? don't get me wrong, I always liked Nintendo, but seriously, they completely blew it. A year after launch and still, the really big hitters are in development. So I don't get this either.
Now to Sony and the core of my statement. In a period form european launch to maybe the middle of the year, on my personal "to get list" (some of those I already have obviously) I see Killzone Shadowfall, Resogun, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Planetside 2, Infamous Second Son, Diablo 3, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and then later in the year probably finally Driveclub and The Crew (hopefully). So I absolutely do not feel a draught. But thats just me.
What I really DO HATE though is the people. The past 20 or so years it's like that. People adopt early to a new console and then they WHINE and COMPLAIN, boohoo, my console is broken, games are coming slow, the competition has more/other games, WTF a price drop? ...
Come on. We ALL KNOW THIS. No one forced any one of us to buy a PS4 this early. It would be even more clever to get one at christmas 2014. Why? All the good games are out or at least much closer, we know about hardware failures and they are probably already fixed in a new production batch, there might be some special promotion/bundle/pricedrop on the hardware and there might even be new apps and functions on the OS. All in all a better product.
WE ALL ABANDON THIS REASONABLE THOUGHT TO HAVE THE CONSOLE EARLY. Knowlingly.
So why don't we enjoy what we have and just stfu? Seriously. If you're so happy with the offerings (mostly PROMISES) of another company, buy their stuff, then whine on their fan-forums because all those release dates and hype was a lie. Like everywhere.
I don't want this to be too harsh and it's definitely not directly aimed at Gamer83 but at anyone who is so bitter (I know how it is, happens to me too from time to time) to have a new console at home that one HAD to buy as early as possible and instead of enjoying what they HAVE they complain about what they have not. First world problems really. I got my PS4 and I enjoy every minute I play with it, mostly KZ and Lego, going for Platinum too. Besides that I still have my (not too old) PS3 and enjoy the Last of Us, Killzone 1, 2, 3, Grand Theft Auto V and Gran Turismo 6. Also I have Tearaway, Killzone Mercenary and Uncharted Golden Abyss to play on my Vita. Maybe I'm not so "pissed" about the lack of games and announcements on PS4 because I see the appeal of the "whole" Playstation Ecoystem, something that MS is completely and Nintendo mostly (or its badly implemented) missing.
The games are coming. If you can't stand the wait, you should have bought your console later in the year, with stock readily available and other before mentioned boni. That's the core statement I want to convey I guess.

Okay this changes the perspective I had on your original post a bit and again, I didn't aim for attacking you but actually you give your own answers to yourself. Look at that lineup you just mentioned for PS4. And you forgot (probably you're not hyped for it) Destiny. And yes probably there are not too many 1st party titles in there, but I don't see a problem at all. Im also pissed about that Driveclub fubar and have my games rather sooner than later, obviously. But I don't see anything in the MS lineup that interests me except maybe Quantum Break, but games in that attitude are no strangers to PS either so they will come.
Again I firmly believe Titanfall is overhyped and will fall flat, Sunset Overdrive - I don't think there is a big initial crowd that would buy a console just for that game, especially considering the package of "trouble" the Xbox One comes with compared to the PS4. Quantum Break, looks nice but seems to be a niche game, I can't imagine it pulling huge crowds to get a console just for that one honestly. Halo, people know Halo, people love Halo, Im bored off it, but everyone who loves Halo probably has an Xbox One already anyways, same for Gears. Like when we got the PS4 we KNEW there will be Killzone and Uncharted for example, I let this run into my consideration which console to get (even though it was a fixed thing really early on) as others will factor in the typical MS franchises like Halo and Gears.
I truly just don't see ANY reason to be worried about Sony this gen. Not at all. And for the individual it doesn't matter if there games on your system that are also on the competitions system, as long as it is fun, what do I care if Xboners have it as well?
Sure not everything is flowers and shiny little unicorns in Sonyland, but honestly, would you want to trade? On promises MS and their developers made. I mean... we're talking Microsoft here. For a big-ass company out to make some money Sony has really stepped down from their throne and try to be communicative and consumer-friendly like I have hardly ever seen or experienced it in the big businesses of the world. That alone is a huge reason for me to "trust" (at least more than MS or Nintendo) Sony about their concept and way of doing things.
Again im inflating this subject more than necessary and don't want to step on anyone's toes, I couldn't care less if John Doe is happy with the games on PS4 or not as long as I am, but on a more serious note, I do feel that the PS4 is WELL accepted also with developers and partners, it has the bigger market share of the new consoles and lots of potential. I don't see MS taking the lead in ANY way anytime soon. And Nintendo, well I feel bad for them... and then I remember it was their own crappy advertising and wrong decision making process for the new console. Anyways, google for "nintendo fusion" - rumors about a next Nintendo console already circulating....

Well I've been enjoying the console so you can take me out of the 'whining' crowd. I hardly see how it's 'whining' to simply ask for one or two announcements rather than constantly hearing 'don't worry we have stuff.' That's great, you say you have stuff, prove it. The sales will speak for themselves. If Sony is serious about competing with MS in the North American market, not the only one, but definitely the biggest and one of high importance, it needs to be a bit more open with consumers about what it has, bottomline. And you don't have to 'blow your load' to do so. If one game is 'blowing your load' you're in trouble anyway. Sony is great about bragging about its indie lineup, but outside of the internet gaming community, indie games don't sell $400 consoles, tell us about the big franchises, God of War, etc.

Again sorry if you felt like im peeing on your shoes. Wasn't meant like that. I do get what you say really, but also, I don't see how MS is doing those things so much better? One could even argue that you don't need to tell everyone a new God of War is in the Works, it's a Sony console so it's expected. Like when you get a Wii U you probably expect to play a Mario game on there. But yeah, all in all you're of course right, more information is always better than none or less, sure. I only wouldn't say that Sony is setup worse in any way than the competition.

Where Sony struggles, particularly in NA, is I don't think there's the same level of hype surrounding its products and franchises that there is for MS'. All MS has to do is say 'Halo' and people are hyped. You can argue it's an old, tired franchise, I understand the feeling, there's a lot who feel that way, yet the games sell 6 mil+ every time. Many of Sony's franchises struggle to do half that. Something like God of War, however, does seem to get nice play here, and you're right, while it should be obvious that we'll get another game in the series, it doesn't hurt to start hyping, even if it is two years off. Just drop the name, and maybe a screenshot or two and people will be excited. I'm almost positive Gears 4 is late 2015, but MS will be able to enjoy a very nice build up to it because they've already let the fanbase know, to get ready that another entry is on the way. Sony could easily do the samething its 'GoW.'
Agreed. They could do more really. I sometimes forget that most people are not as aware as I/we are about a brand or platform and need to be fed information and little bits of hype to get them to buy things.

Xbox One notable exclusives: Titan fall, Halo, Gears of War, Quantam Break, Forza, and Dead Rising 3. PS4 notable exclusives: KillZone: Shadow Fall, inFamous: Second Son, The Order 1886, Uncharted 4, and DriveClub. Gears of War probably just started development since they bought the IP, so that's way off in the distance. I fail to see how MS is killing it compared to Sony I can't see any advantage in the upcoming line-ups. MS has an extra launch game, that's it. And if you don't include Gears because it probably just started development, Sony has more upcoming games.
Also realize that PS4 is getting Diablo III w/the expansion and Xbox One isn't.
You all are bringing good points to the table, and I can see where alot of you are coming from. I do tend to agree with Gamer83 on this one and I have yet to hear of some of Sony's well known IPs coming to the PS4. I keep hearing stuff like oh it might come and stuff like that but I am sure that Sony has something up their sleeve. I can also see on waiting till E3 to reveal something as well, again the "won" E3 last year with the PS4 announcement as opposed to the Xbox One and for them not to at least attempt to do just as good as last year or better would be a fatal mistake.
As for enjoying the launch console I couldn't be happier. Honestly I tend to buy my consoles at launch cause I always seem to prefer the launch versions of consoles rather then the slim designs that come out later, that's one reason that kept me from getting a PS3 was the fact that they took out the BC so soon after launch, but thats a story for another day.
@Gamer83: Again I hope you dont mind that I quoted you and I hope you don't think I am singleling you out or anything I just thought you brought up a good point.

I think Sony is smart to hold back their announcements, that way they can announce something new when the hype starts to die down. That's where Microsoft is going wrong, they're trying to attack Sony by bombarding people with bought games, when they should be waiting and rolling out announcements strategically.
If you look at the lineups for this year, you'll see that the PS4 has the upperhand in terms of AAA content. Microsoft: Titanfall, Halo, Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark (possibly) and Quantam Break; Sony: DriveClub, Second Son, MLB: The Show, The Order: 1886 and we still don't know whether or not Media Molecule, Santa Monica, Sony Bend and Naughty Dog will release their games this year - and I only included PS4 games that are confirmed to be coming to the west.
Generally I think that this years E3 will make it for Sony. They still have plenty of ammunition to fire then, whereas MS press conference will feel a bit like "oh yeah we heard about all of that before, so whats new?".

Yep June I guess. But as much as we personally may want to have game info faster, its the E3 that will "decide" this year for Sony, as they go into hype overdrive for the holiday season already. Imagine, if they drop a few bombs with solid release dates ... There is not much sense in heavy advertising at the moment anyways as they cannot meet stock demands.

Exactly, although I wouldn't go so far as to put down other consoles. But yes, I bought PS4 day one and have no regrets- it's a 6-8 year investment, and I've never seen ANY console not end up being worth buying, save maybe the Virtual Boy lol. There IS a lack of games, but so what. They'll come in due time. I bought a Wii U day one. And there was a LONG drought on that system. But I still enjoyed it very much, and I'm so glad I bought it because there's no way I'm missing games like Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World or DKC Tropical Freeze. And now my sights are focusing on the X1, though I'll probably wait for a $400 slim model.
Point is, all consoles are worth buying. It's a long term investment, not a short term weekend excursion. Sure, if you were only gonna play the PS4 for a month, now isn't the best time to buy one. But that's not the case. PS4 is worth buying, and it's worth buying now. Wii U is worth buying, and it's worth buying now. X1 is worth it, and it's worth buying now.
There is no reason to call yourself a gamer if you don't understand that games take time, and generational libraries don't form over night. But if gaming is your hobby, part of the fun is buying the console right away, and getting excited for the games as they come. If you're just a guy who waits til the library is already there, well, you might as well just wait a little longer and stay a generation behind. That way you can experience only full libraries when you buy your console.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
I'm hoping for a 5- maybe 6-year investment on these new consoles before the next-gen starts, tops. Last generation dragged on way past its expiration date.
