Topic: BGEE PS4 Mage spell issues

Hi guys, I'm playing the BGEE for PS4 and found a few issues. Just want to star with the more annoying one.

Any NPC mage in the game does automatically cast a spell as soon as a foe appears (event if you have it selected with a ranged weapons such as darts or sling).

I've tried the options available in "game option menu" but there is nothing there related to spells.

Please, any idea how to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Volo

@Volo if you toggle through your characters you will see a small red diamond in the bottom left corner, if you toggle this to off then your characters won’t auto attack and you’ll have full control over every character. I played through the game that way.

@kyleforrester87 Hi Kyleforrester87, thanks for the prompt response. I've tried your suggestion and it works until the mage (or any other companion) kills the selected enemy. Then, automatically the mage generally uses a "magic missile" to randomly attack another enemy, then the mage switches to ranged weapon.

My main character is a ranger and I've just seen him using his "charm animal" spell to a hostile bear in the middle of a combat against a bunch of xvarts.

Any other suggestions... Please.... I've just started playing my favourite RPG and it's driving me crazy.

The other thing I need to ask is if there's any way to multi-select items in order to sell them and obtain the same price for them all.

I'll kindly wait for your help.

Thank,

Volo

@Volo it’s been a few months the since I played it but I’ll fire it up later and see if I am missing something - with the red diamond disabled all automatic use of abilities during combat should be disabled, other than standard attacks which should keep looping until you manually choose an ability..

@Volo I had a look on my save, as for selling I just sold things individually and cycled through my characters with R1/R2. Doesn’t take long really, I don’t think it’s much quicker than it would be bulk selling as you’d need to select them all anyway.

As for the party AI, if you press L2 and then I am guessing triangle (I’m on switch, where it’s X) you can toggle party AI on and off.

That, combined with turning the red diamonds off for every character on the tool bar on the bottom left, should give you total control of your party. Enable auto pause in the settings and you’re good to go.

You can open the character record, click customise and then script and set up custom actions for everyone, then enable party AI and I guess it’ll make things easier for you (if set up properly) but I couldn’t be bothered with that so set all my moves up manually.

Generally my approach was start battle, pause, L1+R1 to select party, attack enemy then if I wanted to reposition and use individual abilities I’d pause again and select individual people to carry out those tasks. Then periodically I’d do the L1+R1 thing and attack again just to keep everyone on point.

Hope that helps!

Hi Kyleforrester87, thank you for making my quarantine time much easier. You have solved the main issue:

  • "L2" then "square" allows you to disable the PARTI AI

Thank you very much ..... Thanks !!! (I'll play around with the character record options too).

With regards de selling of weapons/ items, I'm still trying to multi-select them (one character at the time) before pressing the "sell" button in order to obtain the same value from the shopkeeper (e.i if you have 10 swords in your inventory you will obtain 10 gold coins for the first one, 8 for the second, 5 for third and 2 gold coins for the last one -if you are lucky-).

Well, I can now keep storing my goodies in a safe place until I know how to sell them.

Thanks once again for your time and big help.

@Volo that’s great regarding the sale price, I really didn’t notice too much, and I ended up with so much money I don’t think it’ll be a problem for you.

It’s quite fun at the start when you are trying to get a few gold together (that’s where these games are at their best I think) but later on I was only really finding myself picking up gold/gem stones and potions.

Edit: on review I may be wrong about the purpose of the red diamond on the action bar for each character, it might in fact be linked to a quick loot feature. Might be worth you exploring that some more!
