Topic: Would You Ever Trust A VR Device That Completely Cuts Off Your Connection To The Real World?

We've seen countless horror stories such as Sword Art Online and .Hack where people die and are trapped in a virtual world due to the misuse of VR technology. Would you guys ever be willing to use a VR headset that cuts off your senses to the real world or are you a person like myself who is more than a little apprehensive of such a product should it ever see the light of day?

Anyways let the discussion begin.

simple answer, NO!

with no connection to outside how are you supposed to know what the hell is going on around you, you completely vulnerable to anything

the only kind of full immersion VR i would use is a Holodeck at least in there your still aware of you real surroundings as the environment is made around you but your still fully conscious (but i seriously doubt we will ever see Holodecks in my lifetime)

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

Yes.

I'll try anything once . I'm sure there would be multiple ways to exit the game. I would also imagine you'd be lying down somewhere. So what would be the difference between being suspended in virtual reality and sleeping. I'd imagine the device would be able to detect anything entering the play area/personal space and alert you.
Also if anything was to happen I'm sure my family would get rich enough to be sorted for life of the back of the following lawsuit, so I would take solace in that.

Why is there still no SAO VR game yet?!

To be absolutely honest, I got that into Statik I lost sense of reality as I was there.

With my monitor headphones on, the pad in hand (the games designed around the ds4) and my vision taken. All that was left was my sense of smell and taste - I had just bought new leather couches and that new couch smell just added to the immersion. I didnt drink anything for 3 hours so my dry mouth was like a real prisoner.

I was completely there and it was marvellous. That experience was unbelievable.

Sounds like the Black Mirror episode "Playtest". It's a scary thought but if done right I'm sure it would be incredible. Would be nervous but definitely willing to give it a try.

It is a problem - it is why porn in VR is such a dangerous prospect. Your whole family could be there watching while you watch it...

Seriously though, immersion is a problem. I have young kids and I can't play VR when I am alone in the house with them because I can't hear them if they wake or need something. I would have no idea if they had fallen out of bed or something so it is a risk. I think it is something that tech could solve but currently, VR does leave you a little vulnerable.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
