Okay, who left @kyleforrester87 in charge of the forums this morning? It's like the one rule we have around here! Don't leave him to answer people without supervision!!

@RogerRoger I nearly nearly tagged you to deal with this as you did such a good job with him last time.

Anyway I was clearly doing a good cop/bad cop thing. You’re up!

@kyleforrester87 Shh! Don't let people know I do good things! It's a secret!

All joking aside, I think the answer's been covered (by you and others). The past is the past; there's nothing we can do to change it, whatever the consequences may be. We can just learn from it. The big takeaways from this story seem pretty clear. Don't give potentially-backstabbing "friends" ammunition to use against you and, more broadly, don't say bad words online.

Sony don't review message content unless it's reported anyway, so as long as both parties keep their heads down, this specific conversation shouldn't trigger any disciplinary action.

He says, hopefully. [looks up at hidden Sony camera in ceiling, smiles and waves]

this is legitimately bull. cant even delete messages because sony's that hellbent on having peoples accounts by the balls with their tyrannical sadistic practices.

nomither6

nomither6

@RogerRoger more like, just dont say badwords on psn. every other online/internet outlet is fine. sony just likes to have people by the balls and be tyrants. twitter, facebook, whatever you name it, all rational. even xbox has a way of suspending your communications instead of directly suspending or banning your account.

@nomither6

  • Sony are not nessecarily tyrants for their policies. I agree that it's too bad you can't delete messages and I hope that's a feature that will be added in the future. But having a policy against usage of certain words like the n-word that hurt people is very much defendable. So even if you don't agree, doesn't mean they're tyrants immediately.
  • Don't worry about your old messages, I have never heard of someone getting a ban a year after the fact. I think Sony considers those messages "old news" too; especially since you alread had a temporary ban, you should be fine.
  • I know earlier you said on these forums you sometimes get angry rather quickly. I can imagine that can be hard, especially in online communities where there isn't always a lot of understanding. If the message you're worrying about is over a year old, that means you have done pretty good lately in that regard. Just keep up, even if it isn't easy.

@Kidfried , me and my irl friend are both black & we use it in everyday speech & its ironic how its offensive to others but it could just be considered profanity to us. GTA V uses the word casually , but i know there will never be a universal ''acceptance'' of the word by others, which is just so ironic to me. the word is a mixed bag all-around. and if it were to be reported in our convo , they would tag it as ''racism'' instead of profanity because the moderation team couldnt care less about actually understanding the chatlog context, they're just eager to ban. they just see bad word=boom , account in trouble. why cant they just delete the message in silence is beyond me.

in response to your second paragraph , the message is indeed old, and again, its casual conversation between us two. theres no argument or drama, its just us talking through messages. and briefly.

and to your third paragraph ; thats over with. i don't engage in that stuff anymore and havent since & its not about that. its just about me being paranoid about my other ''bad word'' messages that hasnt been reported prior.

i hope i don't sign-in one day to see my account banned for a message so long ago that it was before a suspension i already received. i pray if it were to somehow be reported an actual person is reading that chatlog and not an automated bot. and i hope that person isn't an irrational loser having a bad day.

im also in a group chat of 50+ people , and there's what i call ''everyday words'' being used in there ; and i don't see a single moderated message , so I should be 80% fine.....which is still not good enough.

i havent said no bad words in it , and only posted once , so maybe 90%.

@nomither6 With respect, Sony run a service which is used by children. I agree that the policing of bad language shouldn't be as strict in some circles, but I also wholeheartedly support it anywhere where there's the possibility of a six-year-old passing through (including the private message system, which I believe can be joined by anybody if your settings allow it). Perhaps there are preferable, more precise ways of enacting such a policy, but I think Sony understands that it's better to fail safe, rather than fail deadly.

Keep doing what you're currently doing, and you'll be fine. If there is some kind of action taken against you in the future, you'll be able to contact Sony and appeal. You'll speak to a human being and make your case, and I'm sure any rational person in that position would give you the benefit of the doubt. I know I would.

@RogerRoger which is why they need regulations and age restrictions within their network man. twitch has it like that to where a user can set their stream to 18+ only. they do such a terrible job at regulating the demographics of their network but have such an iron fist of rules as if they have it all together , when they dont. why not restrict the accounts of children that use their network and give some sort of icon/identification next to their username that they're a child ,and then the network can matchmake and group them with other profiles i.e. children that have the ''minor badge'' or something like that. the system could even block them from playing specific games and participating in specific chats and/or events online...its 2021 , and this should be a thing already.

nevermind the fact that one could link their spotify account to their psn , and it'll show the title of a song with a ''vulgar/bad word'' title directly on peoples profiles , or the fact that sony advertises r-rated films and games on their ''whats new'' homescreen UI , i just dont get it. they produce these kinds of things and then punish players for it. the last of us 2 is ban worthy according to their ToS , its just backwards. why cant it all just make sense? even the ''live from playstation'' tab on the UI has people broadcasting their games through the ps4 and apparently they can say almost whatever profanity word they please and trash talk all they want , wheres the strict regulations with that and why is it only with messages ? they need to filter the children out, it makes no sense to make a network with adult content m-rated material and things of the like , but say the service is ''for everyone'' with no type of age-restrictions in place.

i apologize about the rant , and thanks for reading all of it if you did. this thread is really over now so theres nothing else to say really. thanks again.

oh, and theres no way to appeal a ban btw. thats only with chargebacks , unfortunately. if its a ban with anything else , support/they won't be bothered to listen or do anything.

nomither6

RogerRoger

@nomither6 I hear you; like I said, there may be preferable and more precise ways of handling this nowadays, especially with advances in technology. Any company which doesn't regularly assess and update its positions is gonna run into these kinds of issues, for sure.

There would still be a way to contact Sony Support and speak directly with a human being. That being said, hopefully you'll never have to!

And it wasn't a rant, buddy. They were all good points, well made.

nomither6

Icbillz

You can only get banned or suspended for sending someone abusive messages there and then assuming the recipient reports you for it. I've never heard of someone getting punished again for something they did months before if they already got suspended for it so I wouldn't worry about it.

I suggest being careful with what you say next time regardless. I've been on PSN since day one and I haven't gotten into trouble at all.

RubyCarbuncle

@Icbillz If it's just friendly chit chat between you all then I wouldn't worry. I also suggest blocking the person that keeps reporting you as well.
