@antdickens Here I am, complaining about ads again. But I wouldn't if there wasn't a reason for it. The thing is, I don't have problems with ads on any website but Push Square. They always happen to do stuff here that they don't on other sites.

There has to be something you do differently than other websites.

Here's another screenshot of something I witnessed today:

That ad in the bottom of the screen? I only can read half of it, and it scrolls with me wherever I go. Covering stuff like actual website functionality. At some point it floated at the top of the screen, which made it impossible to use the menu. (There's no way for me to turn off or block said ad)

I have problems with your ads on my desktop, my previous phone and my new phone. And I have seen this ad on other websites too, and it'll just stay within its ad box.

Like I said before, I love to support the site, but you're really pushing visitors like me into using adblocker. Especially because I'm getting warnings that I'm using adblocker already, even when I have it turned off.

And yes, I'll just continue complaining until I can have an ad free experience.

I thought I was voting in a gaming poll on here the other day but hermes arrived today and turns out I'd bought a pair of size 6 camouflage Adidas trainers from schuh and 2 cordless drills from B&Q

Yep the page jumping around whilst an ad loads up drives me nuts.

@Kidfried sorry about the dodgy ad experience that you're having... from the screenshot I can't tell what browser it is, can you confirm? Don't suppose it's still happening that you could do a screen recording of it? I've never seen something like that happening - nor had anyone else report it - so I'd like to see what is happening. Let me know if that's possible.

The modern web is a nightmare. Developers have bloated more and more JS frameworks behinds things on the flawed idea that they're following "best practices". Ads and all the various popups on top of this just add to the pain. Fortunately they can be blocked, and without those the Push Square family of sites are amongst some of the best on the web (in terms of page load speed - and content of course!). I would be open to allowing ads if they weren't so often of the nature being discussed here.

@antdickens I also had a floating ad (a different one) in the upper left corner on iOS/Safari, except in my case it stayed that way while it played a short (10s maybe) video and then went back to being a static one embedded in the page. I didn't take a screenshot unfortunately.

It’s been really terrible the last few months. I’ve got this weird Olay ad that takes up a quarter of the screen- can’t even close it, before it eventually disappears when I scroll down not letting me the read the first bit of an article….then when I get to the comments section it pops up again.

@antdickens it's not limited to one ad either, here a screenshot of an offender making it impossible to navigate the site:

Maybe you changed something to the site, maybe ads people started using some other technique, but they're able to break the site all the same.

@Kidfried thanks for the screenshot — useful. Nothing has changed over the last few months, so it's an odd one. I've connected via VPN to Netherlands IP but naturally can't get that ad to appear for me (even after visiting the Tele2 website!). I'm passing on the screenshot to the ad guys to see if they have any ideas... thanks again.

Kidfried

@antdickens I have never even visited their website, bought any of their products or engaged with them in any way. I guess they ought to pay me, because I'm giving them some publicity by posting it on a big website like this.

Anyway, thank you for looking into it. And remember, once Push/Life announces an ad-free subscription, I'll be your first customer!

I wondered why I was seeing things like that appear yesterday.

I can't remember what the ad was, (it was a pink background with some white text) but it was doing the same thing Kidfried posted.

I haven't seen it so far today.

Latest iOS, latest Chrome if you were wondering.
