@rjejr Honestly I feel for you, but is the fact that depending on timezone you tried to make the request on Thanksgiving into Black Friday/the weekend not a factor?
I’m from the UK, but it seems like a pretty big deal. I would assume you’d get someone that’s annoyed to be working or working from home that would just want to complete the request (whether reject or accept).

Not coming down on you. Really like your posts here & on NL- it’s just a serious of unfortunate events + timing.

@rjejr Get yourself another year of PS+, and give the sub to your kid as an early Holiday present. Just tell them their lucky this year, and that's all they're getting.

@rjejr Been following your plight and gotta say that I’m sorry to hear how unhelpful Sony customer service has been. Sure, it’s a mistake you made, but companies try to help out customers (especially long-time dedicated ones) all the time.

I’m actually amazed at how one can order clothes online and then then just send them back if you don’t like how they fit. I do that all the time and they never complain one bit about it being my fault for buying the item. I’ve sent back for refund all kinds of items that I’m shocked that a company will take back. You can turn back your food at a lot of restaurants if it doesn’t suit your palate.

Heck, I’ve accidentally spilled my drink at a restaurant and they not only clean it up but give me another one for free.

When I watched Tiger King (great show by the way. Haven’t watched Season 2 yet though) I learned about all the meat they have to just throw away at the grocery store, where if a customer takes a package of meat from the refrigerated section and then has a change of heart at the check out and decides he can’t afford it or something, then they have to just throw that meat away! (I mean, it makes sense and I’m glad they do so that I don’t unknowingly follow behind and accidentally pick up a slab of steak that some Joe had in his cart for 45 minutes.) But they could charge the customer for that item if they wanted, but they don’t.

Tons of little aspects of customer service are done by good companies all the time. Simply looking at a customer’s multi-year support of a company and helping him transfer over a new PS+ account would be much less of a sacrifice than taking back a shirt I bought because I didn’t like the color on me, or just throwing away a roast that I decided I didn’t want to pay for.

In fact, you used to be able to return a video game to GameStop if you didn’t like it for any reason within the first 3 days, or something like that. (Not sure if they still do that).

Anyways, the only other work around I thought about was utilizing the heavy hand of your credit card company. You can call your credit card and have a charge held that you want to dispute and the credit card will go to bat for you sometimes and negotiate the charge away for you. I’ve done that on occasion, often when my credit card number has been hacked and used. I had someone who had stolen my credit card number and bought a bunch of Netflix accounts and I was paying on them monthly for a few months until I finally realized and Discover Card put a stop on the payments and gave me all that money back.

But even when I have been the one to make an errant purchase I have had some luck calling Discover Card and having them put a payment on hold that I want to dispute. It is probably too late for you to deploy that tactic though.

@rjejr Wait, is there a reason why you put your cut up card to form an X in the middle? Are you switching to Xbox now?

That is something that you actually got a helpful person from Sony Rewards. That's good, since any time I've called them because of their website giving me an error when I try to place an order I just get the usual "they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix" even though it's been messed up for months now. You can place an order fine if you are just using points, but if you are using points and a card to cover the rest it gives me an error every time. The last guy I talked to volunteered to place the order for me over the phone, but after Guardians of the Galaxy being sold out and me missing it only because of their piece of crap website and obviously poor tech team, I politely declined.

At this point, I'd tend to agree with you that Sony should have done something at this point. Yes, I still feel it was your fault and they technically aren't obligated to do anything, but I'll soften my stance after what seems to be several attempts, their lack of caring even though you're a very loyal customer, and it being what should be an extremely simple fix. Their customer service has pissed me off at times too, but in a way luckily I've been a multi-console owner (I've owned ever PlayStation as well) for now 4 console generations with owning every Xbox as well, so I don't take it quite as personally as if I was a diehard fan of one or the other.

@KilloWertz "Wait, is there a reason why you put your cut up card to form an X in the middle? Are you switching to Xbox now? "

Oh man that's genius! No, still a Sony gamer, just not very good at being a fanboi. I just cut it in an X and when I saw the pieces on the countertop put them like that b/c it looks like an X-Men belt buckle.😁 We did own an Xbox 1 for about 6 months, the original Gears of War trilogy makes 1 nice game and Sunset Overdrive was great, then we traded it in for a Switch. We don't play FPS or sports games except Mario Kart so not much there for us. Though my kid does have a Gamepass on PC account, no idea what they're playing on it. 🤷‍♂️

Oh well, guess I should go read the rest. 😉

"they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix"

I have a saying recently - "the world is broken". Not just covid, but covid exposed it. We have Tracfone for cellphone service. Our family plan has 4 phones. I pay $12/m for mine and the other 3 haven't been charged for about a year now. Nobody there knows how to fix it. I've also been getting HBO Max free for months. My Roku TV had a click here to watch "THE Suicide Squad" ad, so I did, expecting a "Subscribe now" page. But the movie just played. And HBO Max has worked ever since. My account says it expired March 2021 when I signed up for a month to watch Godzilla vs Kong then promptly cancelled. People rely on software to work, when it doesn't nobody knows how to fix it. So at least the broken isn't all bad. 😎 I've had "but I canceled months ago why are you still billing me" experiences as well. Not sure if it all balances out in the end or not, but I am sure it's all broken. 😝

@Fight_Teza_Fight "it’s just a serious of unfortunate events + timing."

Well just in case you misread the time zone thing, can't recall when my first post was, all of this occurred Wednesday afternoon, not Thursday which is Thanksgiving. I cooked dinner for 17 people on Thanksgiving, hosted them in my small house which comfortably fits about 8, why they keep coming back every year I don't know, so I was too busy T-Day to deal w/ this at all.

I did call Sony Rewards on Friday morning expecting to be told - we're still looking into it, call back again in another 6 months - but that phone call only lasted about 5 minutes, w/ the woman fixing my problem in about 2 minutes and me telling her the PS+ story while we waited for my email code to arrive. I haven't contacted anyone at Sony or PS about the PS+ issue since Wednesday afternoon b/c of the holiday.

I agree with you about the timing, I just didn't know if you were under the impression I spent Thanksgiving day trying to solve this. I admit I made a dumb mistake, but I'm not dumb enough to try to fix it on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, or the rest of the weekend. Tomorrow I'll start making phone calls again, maybe an email if I can find one, and I may resort to 1 snail mail letter just because that's what Sony has on their webpage for contact info.

@Iver "I have to wonder if things would be different with Microsoft or Nintendo?"

Probably not, or maybe it's just a timing thing like the other person said. I have read a lot of comments in the past about Sony not having the best customer service though, so that's not new. There's really no reason for a company to have good customer service if people are going to keep throwing money at them hand over fist anyway. Any public utility or monopoly, they don't need it. I'm 56, house, cars, kids, bills, bills, banks and more bills. Dealt w/ A LOT of customer service reps in the past. Usually things work themselves out in the end, can only think of 1 or 2 times they didn't, but I've never felt as "stop bothering us" as I have with this issue across the board at every turn.

I will admit I'm bothered by things like "If you have further questions, we will be here." - direct tweet copy & paste - but then people hang up on you, don't reply, or cut you off. That's just rude. If you're not going to help, don't offer to help. And really really really don't follow up the rude not helpful tweet with: "Thanks for contacting us. How was your experience? Please take a moment to give us your feedback:" 😝

@Octane "Just tell them their lucky this year, and that's all they're getting."

Well they already got the PS5, PS+ and Ratchet & Clank so I think their good. 😉

Not sure how many of my diatribes you've read but that night after giving up for the day my kid offered me the $ to pay for PS+ b/c they felt bad. My 16 year old with no job and little money figured offering up $40 of their own money would solve the problem. And I suppose it would have. But I told them to keep it b/c even if they gave it to me I wasn't giving it to Sony and paying for ANOTHER subscription to PS+. No way, no how. Sony has enough of my money, they want any more they're going to at least to make the effort to pretend to care about my predicament. Maybe they can't solve it, but they need to think of something to make me think they at least tried. Right now all I'm getting is "don't do that". Geez, thanks.

@PsGamer4Life Blocking is too much work, so is the censoring, I'm old and tired and can't be bothered.

@Th3solution Yeah that's pretty much the state of affairs, lots of companies going the extra mile to keep costumers happy, b/c it's easier to keep a current customer spending money than signing up a new customer, so I was taken aback by all the rude brick walls I was hitting at Sony. If they can't help they can't help, but something. Sony just gave away about half a dozen games for free, not PS+ rentals, free free, w/ Play at Home - I still have access to those BTW - so I thought they'd do something for me.

I haven't tried again yet, keep meaning to but I've been feeling a little ill and dealing with Home Depot, they owe me a $289 refund on a floor install on my HD cc and they keep saying they gave it to me but they haven't. So that's a priority at the moment. I didn't think about a charge back on the $39.99 PS+ purchase at Newegg b/c it doesn't have anything to do with them. Knowing Newegg I could probably claim it didn't work and get a refund from them - been doing business w/ them for years and things like that have come up before, always resolved - but it did work and I'm no scammer or con artist, just a guy who made an easy to make mistake.

I also think it's odd Sony charges $59.99 per year for PS+ but they don't even have dedicated help support for it. Not even an @ on twitter. Can you imagine if Disney+ had no help support, Disney was just like, if you have a problem visit Disney World. DisneyPlus has like 12 legit twitter accounts. PS+ has nearly 50 million paid subscribers, they should get a dedicated helpline, email or phone number for $60/yr. that's an internet or cable company number. Actually I don't think I've found ANY email address for Sony. That's why I started this thread, to get help from Sony. Maybe I should have asked for an email address. 😂

"Anybody have any good customer service phone numbers for Sony or Playstation?"

Oh, as for credit card fraud, I've had to cancel 3 in the past year alone - online coffee store, online computer classes, sneakers in a store in Brooklyn. All our numbers are out there, only a matter of when, gotta stay diligent. At least I'll have 1 less card to worry about once I cancel my Playstation. I cut it up but decided not to cancel it until after I get all of my points for my $600 PS5 purchase. Maybe once again Sony rewards can come through and I can use the points for something, then I'll cancel it.
