Dave the Diver (PS5)

Dave the Diver, like the sea, is far deeper than you think it is. It charms with its attractive visuals and addictive loop of diving for fish and running a restaurant, but it never rests on its laurels, always finding new ways to enhance the fun. There's never a dull moment, whether it's a whole new feature expanding the gameplay, an unexpected new story beat, or another hilarious cutscene to enjoy. It's this constant reinvention and surprise that makes the game so compelling, even through the occasional rougher moments. If you've yet to experience it for yourself, we'd highly encourage that you take the plunge.

Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King (PS4)

While there's definitely nostalgia in play, some of Disney's old school games hold up pretty dang well today. Aladdin and The Lion King are two great examples, and you get to play pretty much every version of them in this neat collection. Features like rewind, save states, and more soften the notoriously hard edges of these action platformers, and making-of materials provide some nice history on how they came to be.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined (PS5)

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age (PS4)

The definitive version of an already outstanding Japanese RPG, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is a gigantic and endlessly charming adventure. It retains the series' classic JRPG roots — turn based combat included — but a heavier emphasis on storytelling through a fantastic cast of characters elevates the experience significantly. One of the greatest Dragon Quest games yet — and that's saying a lot.

EA Sports Super Mega Baseball 4 (PS5)

While not the best baseball sim on the market, Super Mega Baseball 4 still manages to charm. Its goofy, fun presentation separates it from more straight-faced sports games, even with some real world all-stars putting in an appearance. Highly customisable and deeper than you might expect, there's lots of fun to be had here, whether you're a more casual player or a true fan of the sport.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (PS5)

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is so close to being the definitive way to play what remains a masterful tactical RPG to this day. Square Enix's unfortunate decision to axe content introduced in The War of the Lions stings, but if you can get past that, the raft of quality-of-life improvements, additions, and upgrades make it a fantastic way to revisit, or experience for the first time, one of the most influential video games ever made.

Forza Horizon 5 (PS5)

Forza Horizon 5 might be a few years old, but its vast amount of activities, robust feature set, and superb driving model mean it's still out in front. It isn't perfect — it can feel bloated and overwhelming, the AI is frustrating at times, and the characters and dialogue are a constant weakness. However, behind the wheel, tackling its myriad events and exploring the beautiful open world, it's hard to not be convinced by its optimistic personality and sense of fun. Despite its late arrival on PS5, it still feels showroom fresh.
