I came across the 90% loading bug several days ago. I was pretty upset because I thought I had lost 30 hours of progress. I decided to wait and hope for a patch rather than start over. I'm glad I did.

Also, I had to start up my PS4 before it would start downloading this patch. I don't know why, but it wouldn't download it while in standby mode.

"Would anyone else be interested in a fresh iteration of underrated first-person shooter Black? No, didn’t think so."

It's funny you should say that. There are only three things I want from EA right now. Mirror's Edge 2 on PS4 is one of them. But the first two are Black 2 (PS4) and a new Boom Blox game for Wii U. I doubt those two are very likely, though.

Awesome. Awesome to the max.

I was a latecomer to the Far Cry 3 party (just played it a few months ago), but it quickly became one of my favorite FPS games of all time. Barring terrible reviews, I'll be hopping on the elephant-drawn Far Cry 4 bandwagon the moment it sets off.

They should add new missions as free DLC every now and then. Doesn't have to be anything elaborate, just something else to do would be nice. I'm sure they would say that the real additional content for this game is The Phantom Pain, and that's fine, but it would be nice to have some more content in a game that cost $30 but feels like it should have been $10 or $15.

Either way, I am actually still enjoying playing around with this game. I had lost interest in Metal Gear after MGS4. Not in a negative way, I just felt like that game was the perfect ending to the series. But this one has actually renewed my interest and I'm now really looking forward to The Phantom Pain.

Tony_342 commented on Talking Point: How Frequently Do You Want PS4 ...:

"Why, then, are message boards and social networks ablaze with complaints regarding the lack of meaningful PlayStation 4 tweaks?"

Because the PS4's firmware is incredibly basic and feels like a huge downgrade from the PS3.

Until the PS4 is up to par with what the PS3 was capable of doing, I wouldn't mind for the updates to be much more frequent. But once that point is reached, I would want them to become very, very infrequent. Overall, though, I would say they're probably doing the right thing by releasing larger updates less frequently.

Tony_342 commented on Interview: How Renegade Kid Embraces PlayStati...:

This is only the second Kickstarter project that I have ever backed. I'm sad to see so few comments on this article so far. Renegade Kid have proven twice now that they know how to make an excellent FPS horror game. Dementium: The Ward and Dementium II were both incredibly impressive games, especially when you consider they were running on the DS at 60 frames-per-second. They both had fantastic atmosphere, great lighting effects, excellent controls, creepy enemy designs, moody music... all the things you could want from a legitimately scary game.

Please consider backing this Kickstarter, guys. They need $580,000 and it only costs 20 bucks to get an entire Season Pass (that's all 5 episodes).

"Would you be interested in a sequel to Resogun?"

Considering that it's the second best game Housemarque have ever made, yes I would. And I say that as someone who is not really a fan of arcade-style shooters. I thought Super Stardust HD was terrible, for example, so I really hesitated to try Resogun after people kept going on and on about how amazing Stardust was. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that Resogun is actually really good. I would definitely buy some DLC or a sequel.

And just in case anyone is wondering, Outland is the best game they've ever made.

Tony_342 commented on Review: Mercenary Kings (PlayStation 4):

A 7 is better than I expected. I've been playing this game for two or three hours now, and my opinion of it keeps going back and forth from "Meh" to "This sucks." I haven't deleted it yet like everybody else apparently has (because I keep hoping it will get better), but I've certainly considered it. Honestly, I'll probably only play it once more and then, most likely, get rid of it.

It's just not a good game, unfortunately. I think it suffers considerably from poor design in pretty much every area. I don't find any joy in speaking ill of something on which many people worked long and hard, but asking $20 for this game is just too much (especially considering how many people don't even want it for free).

@Dodoo Agreed. It is definitely a better game than most of the reviews would have you believe. I think it's easily the best game in the series - much better than the overrated Killzone 2 (which has a Metacritic score of 91 compared to Shadow Fall's 73).

Also, despite this site's constant insistence that the story is weak, I thought it was quite good and, again, the best in the series so far.

Tony_342 commented on Talking Point: Are We Starting to Expect Too M...:

I just recently activated the free month trial with the code that came with my PS4, so I've been enjoying Resogun, Dead Nation, Thomas Was Alone, and Lone Survivor. The only one of those I would have been interested in buying is Resogun, but it's nice to have something to play that I otherwise wouldn't have tried.

I've been considering getting a subscription. I'm hesitant to do so, though, because my Internet service is pretty slow, and it takes me forever to download the larger games. For example, it took me roughly 50 hours to download The Last of Us: Left Behind (which was around 5GB). So, I actually prefer to get the smaller, PSN exclusive games as opposed to the full retail titles.

I also don't like the possibility that the free game of the month could be a game that you already own. There should be some way of getting around that. Perhaps, if someone has already bought whatever game is being given away for free that month, they could put $10 in your PSN Wallet instead, or something like that.

I never play online multiplayer, so that's not a factor for me. I'm not entirely convinced that I wouldn't be better off just buying the games I want at normal price and forgetting about the subscription service. Still, there's no arguing that considering the value of the games they give away for free combined with all the discounts that are available to you, it's a darn good deal for only $50 a year.

If my Internet service was significantly faster, I wouldn't even have to think about it. I would have signed up a long time ago.

I planned on waiting until the price dropped, or maybe buying a cheaper used copy eventually, but the game (at least the PS4 version) is already becoming difficult to find, apparently. The prices have actually gone up at some of the places I checked online. I decided to go ahead and take a chance on it and bought the last PS4 copy of the game that I could find locally. Also, I thought it would be nice to have something to play in between sessions of inFAMOUS.

I've only played the game for a couple hours (just messing around, mostly - I haven't even finished the main mission, yet) and I'm really enjoying it. It reminds me of being a kid, playing through the Facility level of Goldeneye over and over. It's just fun to mess around, discovering the things you can do, ways you can interact with the environment, and seeing how much mischief you can cause or how stealthily you can deal with all the guards. It controls really well, it looks beautiful, the framerate is silky smooth...

It's fun.

It seems to me that the very first thing you should learn in Business 101, is that if there is any question as to whether something is priced higher than it should be - it is. There should never be any question as to whether or not your wares are worth what you're charging for them.

I definitely want to play this, but I just can't bring myself to spend $30 on it. From everything I've read and seen, it seems like this "game" offers about as much as a 10 or 15 dollar downloadable game. I know I can get the PS3 digital version for $20, but I really badly want something to play on my PS4.

And to think it was originally going to cost $40.

Tony_342 commented on PS4's Exciting New Features to Be Outlined in ...:

@Shellybird27 Did you really say "lol" to me wanting a remote control for a Blu-ray player? The DualShock 4 works, yes, but I don't want to use it for both games and movies because first of all, it drains the battery quicker. Second, I'm often eating when I'm watching movies or TV shows on DVD - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, for example :), and it's easier to operate a remote with one hand than the Dual Shock. Third, I'm not the only person who uses the PS4 as a Blu-ray / DVD player, and having to constantly explain which button does what is annoying and shouldn't be necessary (because it's not like the DualShock has "Next" written on the R1 button, or "Pause" written on the circle button).

You know, all the basic reasons anyone would want a remote, essentially.

Also, no, Blu-rays do not work fine. They take way, way too long to load sometimes. I've waited several minutes for a Blu-ray disc to load on my PS4 on a few occasions, and I know I'm not the only one.

Edit: I finally figured out why my PS4 takes so long to load certain Blu-ray discs. It's because I had the online functions enabled, and my Internet service is atrociously slow at times. Once I disabled the Blu-ray disc online functionality, they loaded just fine. Unfortunately, though, as far as I can tell there is no way to permanently disable this. You seem to have to say "No" every single time you put a Blu-ray movie in the system when it asks "Do you want to enable Blu-ray disc online functionality?" or whatever.

Tony_342 commented on PS4's Exciting New Features to Be Outlined in ...:

I would like for these exciting new features to be things like being able to store and play video files, audio files, image files (pictures), loading Blu-ray movies properly, finally having an official Blu-ray remote, and being able to organize all the icons on the home screen.

Those would be exciting features to me - all the simple things the PS3 did. How Sony thinks the firmware on the PS4 is anywhere near acceptable is beyond me. And releasing a system that is capable of playing Blu-ray movies without giving us a remote? They really need to get their act together.

It seems this game is trying to do exactly what an Alien game should, in my opinion. That is, trying to recapture the look and feel of the classic original and completely ignore all the other garbage installments. Yes, I thought Aliens was garbage. Yes, I know I'm in the minority with that one.

Tony_342 commented on Killzone: Shadow Fall Patch v1.09 Smoothes Out...:

I would have sworn that the game ran at 60fps or, at least, something significantly higher than 30. I've played through it twice now, and never noticed a single bit of slowdown - it's always been super responsive and smooth. I even booted up multi-player to see what the game is like actually running at 60fps, and it looked and felt exactly the same as the single-player campaign. Although, now that I think about it, it was actually the offline Botzone mode. I guess maybe that mode runs at 30, too. I don't know. I haven't ever actually played online. Anyway, it's clearly smoother and more responsive than a lot of 30fps games.

I agree with most people here - I consider this very good news. Not having multi-player at all in order to focus entirely on the single-player campaign (or as I like to call it - "The Game") is the option I would choose every time. I often forget that games like God of War: Ascension, Uncharted, and The Last of Us even have multi-player modes, as I have never touched them. I'd rather play through the game again for the thousandth time than mess with online multi-player.

Shadow Fall is easily the best game in the series so far. It's vastly superior to the overrated Killzone 2, and even better than the much-improved Killzone 3. I'm not a big fan of FPS games that are just constant over-the-top action. I really prefer a shooter that takes its time and allows you to approach situations in different ways. For example, I'd take Half-Life 2 or GoldenEye over Call of Duty or Battlefield any day. I also really like the added focus on the high-tech, futuristic, sci-fi feel of the game (the OWL was a brilliant addition, as were the space levels) and thought it had a much better story than the previous entries.

I saw an article on another website recently that asked "Is inFAMOUS: Second Son the Most Anticipated PS4 Game?" I laughed, and then thought to myself, "Well, what else would be? I can't name a single other PS4 game coming out in the next 6 months!" So, thanks for educating me on some of the upcoming games.

Although, I must say, Octodad and Thief are the only slightly interesting looking games I see here. I'll have to check out the reviews for those when the time comes.

I just can't see this working properly. Surely there will be a ridiculous amount of lag involved in streaming games like this. I imagine it will work about like the Remote Play feature of the PS3 and PSP, which had so much lag that it was essentially useless and unplayable (I don't know how much better Remote Play is for PS4 and Vita, since I don't own a Vita).

Tony_342 commented on Talking Point: Do Single Player Focused Games ...:

The only time I care about multiplayer is when it's a game that I can play casually with friends and family in the same room. I couldn't care less about online multiplayer. I actually forgot that The Last of Us has online multiplayer before I read this article. I've never touched it. Nor have I ever played any of the Uncharted games online.

Personally, I'm very happy when a developer announces that there isn't going to be an online multiplayer mode in a game that I'm looking forward to. As far as I'm concerned, I want them to focus all of their efforts on what I like to refer to as, "the game" (most people refer to it as the "campaign" or "single-player mode") and not bother with creating what I call a "sandbox side attraction" (when I think of online multiplayer, I always think of a bunch of little kids jumping into a sandbox and throwing sand in each other's faces over and over). I'd rather play through "the game" (campaign) for the thousandth time than bother with the online multiplayer for the first time.

I don't mean to sound negative, but this is the only PS4 game so far that I'm actually interested in. Which leaves me with the odd position of having to choose which games to buy at launch when there really aren't any that appeal to me.

Personally, I've been a big fan of Sucker Punch since Rocket: Robot on Wheels on the N64. I still remember reading about that game in Nintendo Power before the title of the game was even known. They said it was going to be "like Banjo-Kazooie but with more interaction with the environment." Right then, I knew I would be keeping my eye on this team. I've owned and enjoyed every game they've ever made, and I don't think that will change anytime soon.

I like all the features jammed into this thing, but the design hasn't grown on me yet. I still think it looks like something a third-party company would make (Nyko, for example). It just doesn't have the sleekness I would expect from Sony. Perhaps they'll polish it up a bit before release. Either way, I'm sure I'll get used to it. The features and ergonomics are what's important.

Tony_342 commented on Review: God of War: Ascension (PlayStation 3):

I've been a big fan of this franchise since the beginning, but this one just isn't doing anything for me. I haven't seen anything from Ascension that really excites me and makes me want to spend 60 bucks on it. The multiplayer means nothing to me, and the campaign seems anticlimactic compared to God of War III. The demo bored me, too. It seems as if Sony Santa Monica tried to give God of War a break, then couldn't come up with anything that worked and thought, "Well we have to make something. Let's just do another God of War game." I don't know. Maybe I just felt that III was a good place to end. Perhaps I'll skip this one and get back into it when God of War IV comes out.

Tony_342 commented on Review: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (PlayStation 3):

Unfortunately, quality strategy games seem to be few and far between these days (especially on consoles). So when something like this comes along, it's definitely worth a look. Strategy games on consoles tend not to turn out too well, though, so I was somewhat skeptical. Then, I played the demo. Then, I played it again. And again. And again. I love a game that makes you think, but is accessible enough to just jump in and have fun. It's really unfortunate that we don't see more of these types of games.

I'm actually glad to see that the game is supposedly four hours long (a couple other reviews claim it's only two hours). I suppose that discrepancy can be explained as the difference between "just playing through a game" and "enjoying an artistic experience." I will definitely be trying this out.
