PushSquare’s Top 50 Playstation Games ‘09: #50-#46

#46: Gran Turismo PSP on Playstation Portable.

#46: Gran Turismo PSP on Playstation Portable.

We said: “It’s impossible to describe Gran Turismo PSP as a bad game. There’s the over-riding impression that in bringing Gran Turismo to the PSP, Polyphony Digital forgot to make an actual game around it. Ironically though, flawed as it is, Gran Turismo PSP still stands heads and shoulders above most other PSP titles. It’s disappointing to the degree of what might have been, but still stellar in many regards.”

#47 Gravity Crash on Playstation 3.

#47: Gravity Crash on Playstation 3.

We said: “Gravity Crash is a decent dual-stick shooter with an excellent level editor. It’s just a shame the notion of “Play Create Share” is unhinged by the limited community options available.”

#48: Mushroom Wars on Playstation 3.

#48: Mushroom Wars on Playstation 3.

We said: “Minimalistic in style and substance, Mushroom Wars will probably prove too watered down for hardcore RTS fans. However, if you’re just looking to chill on the couch with a great looking, simplistic strategy game, Mushroom Wars delivers.”

#49: WET on Playstation 3.

#49: WET on Playstation 3.

We said: “WET is mindless and dumb. Its saving grace is its self-awareness. With its bonkers plot, intriguing presentation and Tony Hawk-esque shooting mechanics, WET is actually much more than it alludes. See, WET may be mindless and dumb, but most of all – it’s fun.”

#50: Virtua Tennis 2009 on Playstation 3.

#50: Virtua Tennis 2009 on Playstation 3.

We said: “Virtua Tennis 2009 may not move the series forward very far, but it’s immediately apparent that the formula works just as well now as it ever did. With Wimbledon around the corner, this is the perfect summer smash.”

Andy Murray: I’ve Won Wimbledon (On The Playstation 3)

Andy Murray Reckons He's Won Wimbledon Numerous Times On His PS3.

Andy Murray has confirmed on the weekend before Wimbledon kicks off that he’s won the tounament numerous times – on his Playstation 3. Speaking with The Sun, British hopeful Murray concluded, “I have played a lot of tennis on PlayStation 3 games. I’m not bad . . . pretty good. I’ve won all the tour events and Wimbledon a few times.”

However, Murray did conclude that “it’s a bit easier on a computer than winning Wimbledon for real.”

Murray stands a real chance at Wimbledon over the next few weeks with one of his two biggest opponents – Rafa Nadal – withdrawing due to injury.

We’re just curious which PS3 tennis game he’s been playing – as far as we know neither Top Spin 3 nor Virtua Tennis 3/2009 feature the Wimbledon licensing. We’ll let him off though, we know they have unofficial alternatives.

Virtua Tennis has always been more fun with real opponents, so it’s good that with Virtua Tennis 2009 Sumo Digital were able to improve on the online, even if they could be accused of skipping over everything else.

Virtua Tennis 2009 To Be Better Than The Real Thing Probably

We think it’s fairly obvious what SEGA are trying to get across in their new “Real Life vs. Gameplay” trailer for Virtua Tennis 2009: you can either get hot and sweaty rushing around a real tennis court or you can be lazy and play the video game. We’ll be opting for the latter thanks SEGA, unless you arrange a one on one singles session opposite Ana Ivanovic. That might be worth getting hot and bothered over.

The game’s looking like Virtua Tennis. Which is awesome. Expect a release next month.

New Virtua Tennis 2009 Trailer Shows Off Roster

Virtua Tennis is coming back this May. Honestly, could we be more excited? Probably not. The game features all the current top tennis stars including the UK’s very own Andy “Moody” Murray. We hope they’ve spent ample time rendering Ana Ivanovic’s posterior.
