Remember the Ghostbusters video game? Well now you can experience it all over again – except this time, in your pocket. That’s right, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is coming to the PSP. And going by this trailer posted on Joystiq, it’s going to be a pretty faithful recreation of the game on Playstation 3.
Ghostbusters: Now With Better Performance On The PS3.
Remember just before Ghostbusters: The Video Game came out on the Playstation 3? Yeah, there was a bit of an uproar regarding the graphics. That’s not a problem now though, because developers Terminal Reality have issued a patch to fix the problems:
“Both single and multiplayer modes have been updated. In single player mode, fixes include an increase in resolution to match that of Xbox360 and some freeze issues, along with numerous other localization fixes.
“Several audio/subtitle mismatches have been patched up as well. The multiplayer patches fix certain maps when both SCEA and SCEE players attempt to play with each other, and the Pay Day Trophy and Capture All Most Wanted Ghosts Trophy now unlock properly.”
We supposed we could say “took long enough” but, the main thing is, it’s here now.
Ghostbusters The Video Game Has Sold Big For Atari.
Thankfully for Atari, a company in pretty dire need of a successful game, Ghostbusters: The Video Game has gone on to sell over one million copies in the US across all platforms. That’s a massive big deal for Atari so well done to them. The game was pretty good too.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Multiplayer Impressions.
Earning cash for your endeavours, Ghostbusters: The Video Game provides its own unique spin on classic co-operative containment, survival and capture-the-flag modes, putting you in the shoes of one of the four Ghostbusters as you go.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Charted At Number 4 In The UK.
Despite complaints over its graphical capabilities, the European Sony timed-exclusive Ghostbusters: The Video Game has managed to chart at number 4 on the British sales charts. It’s interesting because more often than not multiplatform games sell better on the XBOX 360, leaving PS3 versions further down the charts.
Alas, all this proves is that multiplatform games sell really well on the PS3 when the XBOX 360 version has to be imported.
Awww heck. We’re so darn tempted by this it hurts. A Playstation Home update will allow you to purchase the Ghostbusters Firehouse and make it your own personal space. Not only do you get the full three story building perfectly replicated, but you’ll also be able to control Slimer and make your own movies with StageSet.
SOCOM: Confrontation will also be coming to Home, allowing you to devise strategies with your friends or team-mates. Check out the trailer after the jump.
We played through and reviewedGhostbusters: The Video Game last week. Honestly, we thought graphically it looked fine. Far from the succulent kind of visuals you come to expect from Playstation 3 exclusives these days, but fine. Hence why when Lens Of Truth broke the news of sub-standard graphics in the PS3 version (when compared to the XBOX 360) we ignored it. Honestly, the game did and still does look fine on PS3 in our opinion — something that we thought had been cleared up by the Gametrailers comparison where they look almost identical. Alas Richard Leadbetter – director of HD consultancy and author of Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry – compared playing Ghostbusters on the PS3 to “time-warping back to the dawn of PS3 development.” Not good then?
Seeing as how virtually all PS3 games fare almost identically to their counterparts these days, this is pretty sad news. The irony is not lost on most either, who are aware that Terminal Reality themselves claimed that the XBOX 360 was holding them back, “we’re one of the few developers who love the PS3 and have a great time with it. We have great technology for the PS3 and we want to show it off.”
Aiming to clear up the controversy, Joystiq went directly to Terminal Reality for a comment on the controversy. The response?
“For the record, the PS3 version [of Ghostbusters] is softer due to the ‘quincunx’ antialiasing filter and the fact we render at about 75% the resolution of the 360 version. So you cannot directly compare a screen shot of one to the other unless you scale them properly. The PS3 does have less available RAM than the 360 – but we managed to squeeze 3 out of 4 textures as full size on the PS3.”
Sigh. To be honest with you guys, these comparisons only serve as flame-bait. While it’s a shame to see the PS3 version fare so poorly, especially in an age where multiplatform games are mostly identical, we gave it three squares last week before we even knew the XBOX 360 version looked “better”. What does that tell you? You can still enjoy the game.
