Next PSP To “Blur Distinctions Between Netbook, e-Reader & PSP”

This Is Not The Next PSP. But You Get The Idea.

This Is Not The Next PSP. But You Get The Idea.

A report from the Wall Street Journal seems to hint that Sony are planning on taking on Apple in their own patch; suggesting a device that “blurs distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PSP”, that will be released to compete againt the iPad.

The report hints that the device will be compatible with Sony’s new global device media platform, which in-turn will go head-to-head against iTunes.

If there’s anything Sony can beat Apple at, it’s games. Which may be their strongest hand if they develop a platform competitive on every level, and stronger in the games department.

We’ll see.

The Agency Cancellation Rumours Are Purely “Ridiculous”

The Agency Is Still In Fine Form And Readying For Release Next Year.

The Agency Is Still In Fine Form And Readying For Release Next Year.

A few months back we reported the departure of several top-tier employees from Sony Online Entertainment. This news brought with it a ton of speculation that The Agency was in a state of disrepute and on the verge of cancellation. Thankfully, those rumours have been quashed.

Joystiq have just posted an exclusive report with SOE’s president John Smedley who assured there is no danger to The Agency project.

He said that the game was still on track for next year and while he didn’t want to give a more precise date, he claimed that “this rumor going around that we’re going to cancel it — [is] ridiculous”.

Proof enough for us, that The Agency is still a beaming light in Sony’s Playstation 3 releases list next year. We can’t wait.

The Green Lantern Says Hey In New DC Universe Online Screens

The Green Lantern Looks Super Generic But Is Hard As Nails.

The Green Lantern Looks Super Generic But Is Hard As Nails.

MMOs featuring orcs, dungeons and dragons don’t really appeal to us. They’re all a bit Lord Of The Rings. We think superheroes, on the other hand, are rather rad. Cue DC Universe Online and this set of screens just published by Kotaku. It has the Green Lantern, man!

Top Level Employees Leave Sony Online Entertainment, SOE Claim The Agency Will Be Unaffected

Sony Online Entertainment Have Lost Some Key Employees.

Sony Online Entertainment Have Lost Some Key Employees.

Bad news for Sony Online Entertainment’s Seattle Studio. They’ve lost some of their top guys in the form of art director Corey Dangel, studio director Matt Wilson and producer John Smith – the latter two founding members of the development house.

With The Agency still unfinished, Eurogamer are reporting rumours of a total reboot or overhaul for the project. SOE have denied that and claim they are “looking forward to showing you new content in the future”. The game is planned for a 2010 release.

The departed SOE employees will form a new studio under the name Detonator Games.
