PushSquare’s Playstation Picks: 8th-14th March 2010

PushSquare's Playstation Pick Of The Week: Final Fantasy XIII.

PushSquare's Playstation Pick Of The Week: Final Fantasy XIII.

It’s a really crazy month here in the PushSquare office. Game-a-geddon is in full swing and no sooner are we done with one game, than we have to move on and get to work on another. Still, at least you’re not going to be bored this month, as not only is there lots to talk about, there’s lots to play. So let’s get started with what’s releasing this week.

PushSquare’s Playstation Pick Of The Week: Final Fantasy XIII [US/EU]

Is it flawed? Absolutely: Final Fantasy XIII takes far too long to get going and when it finally does gather steam, it’s hard to pick up the enthusiasm to keep playing. Still, it boasts a fantastic universe, some interesting characters and stunning CGI cut-scenes. Oh, and the battle system is pretty nifty too.

Also:

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition launches in the US, which is well worth a look if you’re yet to play Capcom’s next-gen horror shooter. SEGA release Yakuza 3 on the West at last in both Europe and the USA (please buy it, someone has to). On the PSN, Mega Man 10 is due a release in the ol’ USA – get ready to throw you controller at the wall.

Whadda’re Ya’ Buyin’?

Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape (DLC) on Playstation 3 Review.

After a rip-roaring first-episode that brought Resident Evil 5 back to its very roots, it’s a shame the second piece of Resident Evil DLC – Desperate Escape – returns to the fast-paced shooting of the main storyline.

Resident Evil: Gold Edition Tops Japanese Software Charts, Heavy Rain Breaks Top Ten

Japan Still Totally Loves Resident Evil, Likes Some Heavy Rain Too.

Japan Still Totally Loves Resident Evil, Likes Some Heavy Rain Too.

The Japanese software chart is surprising on two counts this week. Firstly, apparently people are still way into Resident Evil. Despite essentially being a re-release of a year old game, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition (Alternative Edition in Japan) has debuted top of the Japanese software charts selling a whopping 143,339 copies. The PSP’s God Eater occupied the second spot.

But most interestingly, is the appearance of Heavy Rain at number six. It managed 26,775 copies in its first week on retail, which is impressive for a game we’d consider to have largely Western appeal. Maybe Japan are ready for a change.

We’ve stuck the full listing after the jump.

PushSquare's Playstation Pick Of The Week: Aliens vs. Predator.

It’s another week in PushSquare HQ, and things are really starting to get hectic. Our pile of games just keeps getting bigger and bigger, demanding more and more of our attention. We wish the sun would come out and give us the energy we crave to actually be able to play these games.

PushSquare’s Playstation Pick Of The Week: Aliens vs. Predator [EU/US]

Rebellion’s Aliens vs. Predator reboot may not be on everyone’s list, though it probably should be – the last time they made a similar title it was a huge hit. Fans of Aliens should probably be excited.

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce hits in the USA, while the PSN gets two anticipated DLC packs in Assassin’s Creed II: Bonfire Of The Vanities and Resident Evil 5: Lost In Nightmares. The PSP also gets SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 in the USA and Europe.
