Quantum Is Like Gears Of War Set In A Unique World. Erm, Burned?

Tecmo’s Playstation 3 exclusive Quantum is getting a lot of comparison to the XBOX 360’s Gears Of War. But we think it has a touch more style than CliffyB’s epic. You see while it looks like a macho third person shooter in the foreground, the environments are flippin’ bonkers. We can’t wait.

Tecmo Want Sony To Make This Cost A Little Less.

Anyone else bored of hearing the words “price-cut”? Because at the end of the day, we know exactly what’s going to happen. Sony will cut the price and everyone will complain it’s not enough. Thus we’ll have to report a story everytime something to do with a price is mentioned. It’s a vicious circle and an annoying one at that.

Still, you have to feel if anyone can ask for a price-cut right now, it’s Tecmo. With two exclusives in the works – Ninja Gaiden Sigma II and Quantum – you have to feel they’re in a position to ask Sony for something. And at least they didn’t take the Activision threat route.

“Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: ‘Please cut the price’,” Tecmo’s Kenji Matsubara told CVG. “Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that’s why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we’d welcome a price cut.”

The price-cut is practically confirmed at the moment. It’s a question of “when” and “how much” more than anything.

Quantum Looks Like It's Going To Use Every Inch Of The Playstation 3's Hardware.

With two pretty big Playstation 3 exclusives in the works, Japanese developers Tecmo have become a pretty Sony oriented development house. A strange turn of events seeing as in the past the team we very much taken with Microsoft’s XBOX.

The reason for that? “The PS3 [is] the hardware with the highest specs,” reckons Quantum director Makoto Shibata.

“It’s not that Tecmo is shifting away from the Xbox 360. It’s about timing. From the beginning this [Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2] was seen as a PS3 title and it happens to be coming out at the same time as Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.”

So there you have it. Tecmo are making Playstation 3 games just now. And by all accounts it looks like they’re going to rock. We can’t wait to go hands on with both Quantum and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

Tecmo Want To Distance Quantum From Gears Of War Comparisons.

Quantum, the Playstation 3  exclusive once known as Quantum Theory, has drawn a lot of attention as being the Playstation 3’s answer to Gears Of War. Coming from Tecmo, the game strikes many similarities to the 360’s top shooter.

However, the localisation producer on the project, Peter Garza, doesn’t think that the comparisons are entirely fair:

“Yeah, everybody compares it to Gears of War (laughs). Obviously it’s a sci-fi third-person shooter and we have a big guy for a main character. What we’re trying to do is make a third-person shooter that only Tecmo can make. We know action games. We have Ninja Gaiden, so we’re trying to incorporate some of that action game feel into third-person shooters.”

So basically it’s Gears Of War mixed with Ninja Gaiden? Oh snap. Whatever, it looks awesome.
