Surprise: Next Gen Boom Blox Probably On The Way

Boom Blox On Playstation 3? Had To Happen Right. Probably Is.

Boom Blox On Playstation 3? Had To Happen Right? Probably Is.

Remember Boom Blox? One of those great Wii games that got some attention but didn’t quite meet expectations on the market. It was a great game, and they should make more. Which it seems they probably are.

A job listing on Gamasutra seems to indicate that, hey, the Boom Blox team are working on something new and, hey, that’s coming to the Playstation 3. With Motion Controller kits now firmly in the hands of developers, we’d be surprised if Boom Blox didn’t come to the Playstation 3. Likelihood is, Sony will give it a massive push too as it’ll probably be dependent on their new peripherals.

Any other slightly under-appreciated Wii games you’d like to see on PS3, valued reader? Note — we don’t hate Wii. We love it. That’s why we asking.

Playstation Motion Controller May Just Open The Door To Wii Ports

How About Bringing Zack & Wiki To The Playstation 3?

How About Bringing Zack & Wiki To The Playstation 3?

Playstation’s Motion Controllers work similarly to Nintendo’s Wii. We’ve always wondered what kind of doors this opens up for developers, given the practical similarity between the devices. Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi reckons it opens up one door in particular. Speaking with 1Up he said, “Speaking to other developers in Japan, I’ve heard a few of them say they were delighted by the Sony motion controller because they can just port over their Wii titles to the PS3.”

This statement is worrying at its boldest because a lot of third-party Wii offerings haven’t really took the greatest advantage of Nintendo’s Wii Remote, and cetainly not the power of Sony’s new pixel-perfect motion offering. However, there are titles we’d love to see come across with a lick of paint: Grand Slam Tennis, Boom Blox, No More Heroes, Zack & Wiki. Etc.

Concerning, but perhaps not all that worrying.

Take-Two Are Heavily Involved In Playstation Motion Controller Development & L.A. Noire.

During an investor call today, Take-Two’s Ben Feder confirmed that the company have implemented Playstation Motion Controllers in “just about all” of their studios. While Feder didn’t address specific titles, he did claim, “everybody’s working with them to try to figure out new ways in which we can innovate and create the kind of content that this company is famous for”.

Feder also confirmed that Take-Two’s collaboration with Team Bondi to produce L.A. Noire is still going ahead. He claimed that while there was “nothing to announce” the project was still going and just left us with the teasing words “it’s very exciting and innovative”.

Argh, to say we’re excited over L.A. Noire would be to say the sky is blue.

Tecmo Koei Show Interest In Sony’s Playstation Motion Controllers

Tecmo Are Thinking About How They Could Use Sony's Motion Controllers.

Tecmo Are Thinking About How They Could Use Sony's Motion Controllers.

Talking about Sony’s Playstation Motion Controllers, Tecmo Koei honcho, Kenji Matsubara, reckons that there is certainly a potential to look at how the controllers could work in something like Ninja Gaiden. Until then, he wants to see how the casual games work:

“I’m sure that for casual games these motion controls will be very popular, but for action games like Ninja Gaiden we need quick responses and if you’re swinging your arms around like you’re using a sword you will soon be tired,” says Tecmo Koei honcho Kenji Matsubara.

“Maybe we have to change the playing style [Of Ninja Gaiden] and check the technology to see how quick it can be,” he explains. “So, at first it will be casual games and then maybe hardcore games and we have to prepare for that and provide the games to satisfy that playing style.”

The more people, at the very least, taking interest in the Motion Controllers, the more support we’re likely to see for them. We’re looking forward to what can be done.
