Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime Still Appears Significantly Bitter Regarding Playstation Move.
The more Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime comes out to talk down the Playstation Move, the more we reckon Nintendo are rattled. What’s that Reggie — you heard that there’s a system going to be offering significantly better motion controls, alongside blu-ray, video delivery, and HD graphics? Oh.
“So I’m a consumer and I’m having a great experience with my Wii. And we know that’s the case – we look at the software that’s being purchased. Consumers love the Wii. What’s going to motivate them to spend minimally $300 for a new [PS3] system, plus minimally $100 for the Move motion bundle?
“So [as a consumer] now I’m into this for $400 and I still have to spend money on software. What’s going to motivate me to do that?”
We can see his point, but it’s presumably software and the uptake in high-definition – and specificially blu-ray – that’s going to drive users to the PS3, Reggie. At least, we assume that’s what Sony are banking on.

Reggie's Not So Impressed With Playstation Move.
Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime has spoken to IGN about the Playstation Move, noting that the announcement made him a tad “flushed”.
“If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery then I’m blushing I’m so flattered,” the Nintendo man told IGN.
“You know, I didn’t see the announcement. I did spend some time at the booth and saw some of what they were demonstrating and I think the question isn’t how will we react — I think the question is, so what is it that’s going to be compelling to the consumer in what they’re doing?
“From our standpoint, motion control is core to what we do. We believe that we’ve brought a range of different experiences that utilize the motion controller and we pride ourselves on being innovators in the space and we’re going to continue to innovate. I think the key question is, how will they respond when we continue to innovate if this is their best effort?”
As a Playstation site, we have to actively make aware that we think Reggie Fils-Aime is a kind of God. We love the guy. So even if he is talking stealth-mess on Sony, we can’t help but love the guy.

Sony's Rob Dyer Reckons Innovative IP On The Wii Are Few.
Following our, now favourite Sony exec, Rob Dyer’s verbal attack on Microsoft, it’s awesome to see the dude come out and hate on Nintendo too. Well, awesome in a childish console war business kind of way.
Rob said of Nintendo’s system:
“Unless they’ve got a particular franchise that’s worked well on the Wii, you don’t see a lot of innovative new IP coming out on that platform.”
Again, there’s not really any big argument against Rob here. Aside from the likes of EA Sports Active, Just Dance and the Nintendo developed “Wii -adjective-” titles, the Wii hasn’t really delivered any blockbuster innovators. Although, some would argue those few innovations they have produced have been enough to rocket the system away from both the PS3 and XBOX 360.

Ahh... Life Could Be So Different.
Did you know… Oh, what the hell, of course you fucking knew the original Playstation was actually being designed as an extension for the Super Nintendo. Everyone knows that. And if you didn’t – you should probably have a history lesson courtesy of the genius minds over at Wikipedia.
Bet you didn’t know it looked like a walkman with a cartridge sticking out of it though, did you?
More here.

*Clap, Clap, Clap, Scowl, Clap*
The Nintendo DS is now the biggest-selling UK video games system of all time. According to reports, the DS just passed the Playstation 2’s 10.02million sales mark, earning the crown in just over 4 years.
That’s a crazy impressive feat. Kudos to Nintendo.

Nintendo's Honcho Remains Unconcerned By Sony's Recent Resurgence.
What a difference a few months can make. Way back in April we posted Nintendo exec Reggie Fils-Aime’s statement that “there’s nothing nice to say about Playstation 3“. Now we’re sitting here in November, and Fils-Aime is being asked questions on Nintendo’s performance, as the Playstation 3 currently dominates worldwide.
Asked in particular about Septmeber’s NPD numbers – where a cheaper Playstation 3 crushed a cheaper Nintendo Wii – Fils-Aime said “you have to put it in perspective”.
“So far it’s [the price dropped Wii] selling really well. We’ve been very pleased with the numbers. We’re really pleased as we get ready for the holiday season…You know, you have to put it in perspective. They had five full weeks of price reduction in their favor, we had the one week. And even with that, the gap was pretty small.”
It’ll be interesting to see where the October numbers peg the systems, and whether or not the XBOX 360 will factor into the equation.

Satoru Iwata Reckons The PS3 & Wii Are Neck & Neck In Japan.
Chalk this down to a phenomenal turn-around in fortunes for SCE worldwide, or a drop in demand for Nintendo’s wildly popular Wii system — Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata reckons that in their current climates the Wii and Playstation 3 are “neck and neck” in Japan.
“A notable dip can be seen in sales of Wii this year; which is approximately half the size of last year. On the other hand, Sony’s PS3 showed a good transition and they increased the unit sales by about 50%,” said Iwata.
“Although we held more than a 60% hardware market share through last year – Wii has 42% and PS3 40% share thus far this year – so both machines are neck and neck in Japan.”
It’ll be concerning news for Nintendo, especially with the impending launch of Final Fantasy XIII looking to absolutely snatch away Nintendo’s dominance in their home land. On the other hand, it’ll be pats on the back all around at Sony’s worldwide studios, as it seems 2009 really has been the turning point in Playstation 3 perception.
