Peter Molyneux’s All Like, “Heavy Rain Is The Future And Stuff…”

Molyneux's Quite A Fan Of Heavy Rain It Seems.

Molyneux's Quite A Fan Of Heavy Rain It Seems.

Microsoft’s Peter Molyneux never fails to deliver a quote that’s worth reading. Whether he’s hyping up his own game as the relative second coming of Elvis Presley, or simply stating something ridiculous — the dude’s a master of spin. Turns out that in his latest interview with Joystiq he wants to hype a Playstation product, rather than his own. Fair game Mr. Molyneux.

The “visionary” said of Heavy Rain:

“I recommend anyone who wants to start to see the first glimpses of the future of video games to go out and buy it.

“But there’s no question in my mind that games like Heavy Rain — games that have a new fidelity in the way that they present their experiences; obviously made with cinematography and motion capture in mind — can really show the way forward to a new form of entertainment, which is evolving the story and choices and consequences.

“But, personally, I could not bring myself to play more than 90 minutes, because the world that was there was so dark and so emotionally involving I felt emotionally beaten up.”

Y’know, reviewing Heavy Rain, we can relate. We had to turn it off actually. There are moments in that game where it all gets a bit too “much”.

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg Chips In On The Playstation Move

"Bu-Bu-With Natal You Are The Controller."

"Bu-Bu-With Natal You Are The Controller."

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg isn’t one to keep quiet in affairs relating to Sony and his own company. And so it was inevitable that he’d have something say about Move and Natal.

“Xbox 360 has a strong history of innovation: Halo, Xbox LIVE and instant-on 1080p HD,” Greenberg told TheBitBag.

“With each of these, we had our sights set on the future – and it paid off for us, the industry and Xbox 360 owners. We are doing it again with Project Natal on Xbox 360. We believe controller-free experiences are the future of gaming and entertainment.

“Only Project Natal makes YOU the controller, putting you in the middle of the action and in complete control. Jump and your Avatar jumps. Speak and characters respond. Combined with Xbox LIVE, Project Natal will transform how you connect with your friends, family and entertainment – as only Xbox 360 can do.”

But will controller-less gaming feel good Greenberg? And how are developers getting on with it? Apparently not so great, eh?

Michael Pachter Is All Like, “Natal Will Outsell Playstation Motion Controller 5:1″

Pachter: "Microsoft This. Natal That. Boo Sony."

Pachter: "Microsoft This. Natal That. Boo Sony."

We like Michael Pachter. We don’t think he’s particularly biased, and we don’t often disagree with his opinion. But the dude is unreal when it comes to Microsoft’s much-hyped but not-so-much-shown camera device “Project Natal”. In his latest report, the American analyst has once again declared his love for the Microsoft philosophy, claiming Natal will outsell Playstation Motion Controller by 5:1, selling 10million copies in its first year. That’s a bold prediction for a device that’s had less to show to the public than Sony’s equally hush-hush motion control solution.

Forgive us Pachter, but where the hell are you pulling that number from? Does the average XBOX (or PS3 for that matter) owner really want to start jumping around in their living room? Does the average “casual” gamer want to chuck out that Wii in favour of the “newer one”? And more to the point, have we actually seen any solid evidence that anyone is making a decent video game for Microsoft’s camera? Perhaps you have Mr. Michael – but even at the official announcement Microsoft were exceedingly quiet about what the tech can actually be used for. At least Sony gave us some realistic tech demos that showed implementation in a range of games.

So as for outselling the Playstation Motion Controller 5:1 – maybe. We mean, Microsoft have hyped this thing to hell and back and well, we question whether even you Mr. Pachter have a cheque in your backpocket regarding the “great” video game tech you keep ramming down our throats. Will it sell 10million in a year? Feasible, but we bet all the cameras are covered in dust in 12 months time.

Console War Showdown: Microsoft Retaliate

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg: The Enemy.

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg: The Enemy.

Tell your Playstation-fan mates that we’re all meeting in the park later. Fight going down, yo. A bit like the one from your highschool days where it was Netherstowe vs. King Eddies. Except this time it’s all about Playstation vs. XBOX 360.

Post Sony’s Rob Dyer taking a dump on the XBOX 360 this morning, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has come out and said “Nuh-uh, we’re better.” Well, kinda. Rob Dyer hinted in this morning’s interview that Microsoft lack first-party studios, and thus can only seal exclusives through, ahem, money-hats. Greenberg didn’t exactly dispute this, simply claiming XBOX has more exclusives this year. Pfft. Whatever.

The Microsoft man said:

Obviously there are going to be great games on the PlayStation 3, and we respect that, but our goal is to have the most blockbuster titles and the most exclusives and I think we clearly have that this year.”

If you’re planning on meeting at the park this evening, make sure you bring your DualShock 3’s. Apparently the wireless-ness of them makes them great long-range weapons.

Fuck you haters of the console war. This is the most exciting “news” we’ve covered all week.

Why Are Sony Letting Microsoft Bully Them Out Of Familiar Franchises? – “Twiggy” The PushSquare Opinionator

Grand Theft Auto's An XBOX-Connected Franchise Now? Right.

Grand Theft Auto's An XBOX-Connected Franchise Now? Right.

I know Sony won’t pay for exclusives and I think that’s admirable. After all, would I prefer Grand Theft Auto IV DLC exclusivity for 12 months, or a whole new Wipeout game? The $50million Microsoft paid for that GTA DLC is probably in a similar ball-park to what would be spent on a mid-large PSN release (perhaps less) and thus, absolutely I’d take the latter. But when it comes to franchises such as Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy, I do wonder why Sony are letting Microsoft bully them.

Modern Warfare 2 DLC To Hit Playstation 3 About A Month After XBOX 360

Modern Warfare 2 Fans Will Have To Make Do With What Came In The Box. For Now.

Modern Warfare 2 Fans Will Have To Make Do With What Came In The Box. For Now.

Microsoft announced at E3 that they’d given Activision lots of money secured “exclusive first looks” at the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 DLC, but until today the exact context of that statement had not been revealed. However, Eurogamer are reporting today that Modern Warfare 2 DLC will receive a period of timed-exclusivity on the XBOX 360, for 30 days. So basically, you’ll be able to play all Modern Warfare 2’s DLC on Playstation 3; you’ll just have to wait a few weeks.

Seriously, we wonder how much Microsoft paid just to piss off a contingent of players? This deal just sounds pointless.
