Want to know a little more about the NASCAR features in Gran Turismo 5? Of course you do. (Maybe). Then look no further than the embedded video, in which Polyphony Digital’s Yamauchi talks about the marriage between Gran Turismo 5 and NASCAR.

Gran Turismo’s Yamauchi Completes 25-Hour Car Race

Even if you only keep a moderate eye on the happenings of Gran Turismo, you’ll probably know that the series’ mastermind, Kazunori Yamauchi, is an actual race-car driver. Kinda.

Just this month, Yamauchi completed a 25-hour race as part of the “Spoon Sports” team.

“Not having a lot of experience in circuit driving, and not knowing what to expect in a 25-hour race, I was very relieved to find that I was able to reduce the 20-second gap between my laptimes and my teammates’ at the beginning of the practice to almost zero at the start of the final race”, he said. “It was a great feeling to confirm first hand that “Gran Turismo” has a positive effect in not just learning specific tracks, but also in raising the level of driving technique in the drivers themselves.”

And this, friends, is why Gran Turismo is widely considered one of the best racing simulators available. Because the dude what makes it, actually, y’know, drives cars. Fast. On tracks.

Yamauchi Comments On Gran Turismo 5 Track Editor

If It's In There, Would You Be Interested In Building Some Form Of Gran Turismo Tracks?

Man, do you really have to pick at Gran Turismo Godfather Kazunori Yamauchi’s words to get any hint of a story. GTPlanet have picked up on the wording of an answer Kaz gave during an interview with IGN regarding GT5’s rumoured track editor. In the interview, IGN staffer Ryan Geddes asks if a track editor would make Gran Turismo 5’s development any easier (due to the players making tracks in the game). Yamauchi responds, “A lot of the courses we set up, we take a long time fine-tuning the details and building the track, so it would probably be a bit different than the types of tracks the users will set up in the game.”

The keyword interestingly being “will”. Could be a translation thing, but it’s totally interesting all the same. Will a final feature list for Gran Turismo 5 ever be released?

Kazunori Yamauchi: Forza Is “Different” To A Simulator

Kaz Has Tried Forza 3, Thinks Gran Turismo Is More Sim.

After being the brunt of much of Turn 10’s marketing campaign in the lead up to Forza 3’s XBOX 360 release, Gran Turismo 5 head-honcho Kazunori Yamauchi has said that Forza doesn’t stack up next to GT in the simulation stakes.

“Some base components of the game are very different from Gran Turismo,” he said. “It’s a little bit different from what a simulator is. You can feel it when you drive it.”

However, Yamauchi did concede that Turn 10’s racer does share similarities with Polyphony’s game. Namely that it has cars in it, we assume.

“I was watching the guys at our company trying it out in the office. I tried it a little bit. It’s very similar in a lot of aspects to Gran Turismo,” he said.

With Forza 3 already on stores, Polyphony still have time to polish their project to oblivion before it releases in March. How will the final products stack up?

The Great Gran Turismo 5 Packaging Myth

What Could This Mysterious Three-Tier Gran Turismo 5 Box Contain?

What Could This Mysterious Three-Tier Gran Turismo 5 Box Contain?

GTPlanet have unearthed some footage of Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi handling, what appears to be, a three-tiered Gran Turismo 5 retail package. The video focuses prominently on Yamauchi talking about the Mercedes-something-or-other (we don’t know much about cars – Ed) and how it’s likely to end up on Gran Turismo 5’s packaging because it will “be the most exciting car at the time of Gran Turismo 5’s release”.

What’s most interesting for us semi-petrol heads – who only care about cars because of Gran Turismo – is the way Yamauchi hands around what appears to be a retail package for Gran Turismo 5. That package includes three disc-cases. He does make it clear that packaging is not the final version, but never explains what those mysterious cases contain.

We’re guessing a blu-ray documentary of Gran Turismo’s making, but other suggestions include Top Gear episodes.

The full video is after the jump.

Kazunori Yamauchi Promises Perfection For Gran Turismo 5’s Damage System

We Expect Nothing Less Than Perfection When It Comes To Gran Turismo 5.

We Expect Nothing Less Than Perfection When It Comes To Gran Turismo 5.

If there’s one thing that’s gotten a substantial back-lash in recent weeks it’s been Gran Turismo 5’s damage system. Appearing rather impressive to the untrained eye, it’s the enthusiasts who’ve had more than a word to say about Polyphony’s incorporation of bumps, scrapes and dents.

But Polyphony head Kazunori Yamauchi is unphased. Speaking with Meristation he said, “I’ll only say one thing. Our team of engineers did not want to do something that has already been seen in other games. No. I wanted something completely different and new.”

So should we expect perfection come launch next year, Kaz? “Yes, expect perfection.”

We trust him.

Kazunori Yamauchi Hints At A Simultaneous Worldwide Release For Gran Turismo 5

Gran Turismo 5 May Yet See A Simultaneous Worldwide Release.

Speaking with Multiplayer.it (translated by GTPlanet), Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that Gran Turismo 5 will launch “shortly after Gran Turismo PSP“, likely simultaneously worldwide. Yamauchi also talked about the leaked feature list, claiming Polyphony Digital are waiting to talk about it but the list is true.

Finally, Kazunori Yamauchi claimed that damage would affect vehicle’s handling. He billed it as something that players would either “love or hate”. Personally, we’re rather excited.

TGS can’t come soon enough, right?
