Wolfenstein on Playstation 3 Review.

Wolfenstein is an entirely competent yet woefully uninspired first person shooter. It’s perfectly playable, but the Playstation 3 has much better to offer.

There Will Be Real Enemy AI In id's Latest Rage.

There Will Be Real Enemy AI In id's Latest, Rage.

Doom 3 coined a phrase when it was released. “Monster closets“. The term refers to the way in which the game would spawn enemies if you reached a set point. Thankfully id have scrapped such design philosophy.

Speaking with 1up, Rage lead designer Matt Hooper explained that enemies will be “doing whatever they’re supposed to be doing. If they’re supposed to be defending against you coming there, they’ll be doing that. If they’re just tinkering or having a conversation they’ll do that.”

Blimey, real AI? Thank goodness.

QuakeCon 2009: Rage Looks Like A Super-Stylish, Tongue-In-Cheek Version Of Fallout 3

Here’s the one we’ve been waiting for from QuakeCon 09. Rage. It looks to be id’s super-stylish take on the post-apocalyptic affair of Fallout 3. Despite sharing similarities with Bethesda’s classic, the gameplay obviously looks to be more “FPS” like, rather than the RPG affair of Fallout 3. Not only that, but it also looks super-stylised. Look at the colour palette and character design. This doesn’t seem like a game that’s taking itself too seriously.

If they nail the apocalyptic waste land environment but almost turn it on its head into an almost cartoon like environment, Rage could find a niche of its own.

PS3 Version Of Rage Not Looking So Hot Right Now

Rage Ain't Looking To Hot On The Playstation 3 Just Now.

Rage Ain't Looking To Hot On The Playstation 3 Just Now.

Speaking with EDGE, id’s John Carmack has stated some issues with getting his game Rage to run as well on the PS3 as on the XBOX 360 and PC. While the 360/PC versions of the game are running at 60FPS, the PS3 is managing just 20FPS.

“The PS3 lags a little bit behind in terms of getting the performance out of it,” Carmack explains. “The rasteriser is just a little bit slower – no two ways about that.”

“The RSX is slower than what we have in the 360. The CPU is about the same, but the 360 makes it easier to split things off, and that’s what a lot of the work has been, splitting it all into jobs on the PS3″.

We recommend they speak to Naughty Dog immediately.
