UK Software Charts Are As You Were In The Top Three

The UK's All About Stealth, Dancing & Gay Tony Again This Week.

The UK's All About Stealth, Dancing & Gay Tony Again This Week.

Ubisoft’s double-billing of Splinter Cell: Conviction and Just Dance continue to head the UK software charts this week, with Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Episode From Liberty City coming in just behind them. The only real change to this week’s charts is the entry of the Wii’s Monster Hunter Tri, which we’re desperately fighting the impulse to order. That came in at number five.

The full charts are available after the jump.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City on Playstation 3 Review

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City on Playstation 3 Review.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City on Playstation 3 Review.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City is a package of contrasts. The Lost & Damned hits the franchises’ low notes consistently with a sordid tale of drugs, sex and life on the road. Meanwhile The Ballad Of Gay Tony gives the middle-finger to those crying in message boards about Grand Theft Auto IV’s maturity, with a bombastic and often ridiculous narrative. Sure the GTAIV’s engine is a little creaky these days, but Episodes From Liberty City offers more than just two more solid campaigns within the lively Liberty City – it whips up an appreciation for the story-telling genius that resides within Rockstar HQ and serves it up on a silver platter.

Playstation 3 Release Bumps Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City To Third In UK Sales Charts

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City's Had A Solid First Week On PS3.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City's Had A Solid First Week On PS3.

It’s been a long (long) time coming, but Playstation 3 (and PC!) owners have finally got the opportunity to return to Liberty City as the XBOX 360 “exclusive” DLC has finally launched on Sony’s platform under the retail guise of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City. And the game’s gotten a pretty hefty bump too – managing third-place on this week’s British software charts.

XBOX 360 exclusive (for the moment) Splinter Cell: Conviction topped the UK charts, with Just Dance following it up and securing a one-two for Ubisoft.

Elsewhere, it’s pretty much as you were.

SCEE Put The Brakes On Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City

Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes From Liberty City Is Coming... Just Later Than Planned.

Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes From Liberty City Is Coming... Just Later Than Planned.

Well, we’ve waited months and months for Grand Theft Auto IV’s XBOX 360 “exclusive” content Episodes From Liberty City, right? What harm’s a couple more weeks going to cause, right?

Rockstar’s announced this morning that they’ve delayed the PS3 version of GTAIV: Episodes From Liberty City by two weeks due to some minor changes demanded by SCEE. The game was originally scheduled to release on March 30th but will now hit on April 16th here in Europe (April 13th in the US).

“Due to a last minute game submission request from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to edit some of the in-game Liberty City radio station, television, and internet content – we are forced to delay the worldwide release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for both PlayStation 3 and PC for an extra two weeks,” Rockstar posted on their blog.

“The new release date for Episodes from Liberty City – and the two downloadable episodes The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony – on those platforms is now April 13th in North America and April 16th in Europe.

“This new date will enable us to rectify these changes for Sony Europe, and still allow for a level playing field for all of the Grand Theft Auto fans that have been waiting patiently for this release. In the meantime, we’re moving full speed ahead towards the new game release date. On that note – please be aware that the Grand Theft Auto IV PlayStation 3 leaderboards at Rockstar Games Social Club will be down for maintenance for one week starting March 22nd as we work on their re-launch in support of Episodes from Liberty City.

“Unfortunately, with each round of changes comes fully re-testing the game and a full re-submission to PlayStation. This is the nature of the game submission process. Believe us, if we could expedite the turnaround any sooner – we would. We are dying to get this game in the hands of fans who’ve waited for it for so long in the first place.

“This was a tough decision but with a simultaneous release, everyone can experience multiplayer simultaneously, take part in online events together, be on level ground on leaderboards, etc.”

It’s pretty bumming news to be honest, that must frustrate the publisher no end. But these things happen and the delay is not particularly huge. Two extra weeks is all guys. Hold out.

Why Are Sony Letting Microsoft Bully Them Out Of Familiar Franchises? – “Twiggy” The PushSquare Opinionator

Grand Theft Auto's An XBOX-Connected Franchise Now? Right.

Grand Theft Auto's An XBOX-Connected Franchise Now? Right.

I know Sony won’t pay for exclusives and I think that’s admirable. After all, would I prefer Grand Theft Auto IV DLC exclusivity for 12 months, or a whole new Wipeout game? The $50million Microsoft paid for that GTA DLC is probably in a similar ball-park to what would be spent on a mid-large PSN release (perhaps less) and thus, absolutely I’d take the latter. But when it comes to franchises such as Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy, I do wonder why Sony are letting Microsoft bully them.
