God Of War III’s Length Should Be The Last Point Of Discussion

God Of War III's Length Really Isn't A Topic For Discussion.

God Of War III's Length Really Isn't A Topic For Discussion.

How short is too short in video games? Well, how short’s a piece of string? It’s astounding to see the number of people commenting unfavourably on God Of War III’s length. “But God Of War III is only eight hours and Final Fantasy XIII is fifty – I’ll rent Kratos’ epic last hurrah instead.” Quality over quantity – how many have heard that phrase? You should have, it’s a popular comment and it’s absolutely relevant to this point of discussion. It doesn’t matter how long God Of War III is – because every moment of that perfectly crafted adventure is mind-blowingly amazing. So exactly what are you complaining about again?

There’s been forum-posts, blog stories and comments all over the Internet the last few days. Apparently Sony Santa Monica’s studio director claimed God Of War III is 12-hours long. Whatever – it took us nine hours in our review playthough. Does that make the game carry less value? Absolutely, absolutely not. Every single moment of God Of War III is pure epic thriller. Set-piece after set-piece. Perfectly constructed puzzle after perfectly constructed puzzle. Gorgeous vista after gorgeous vista.

Compare that to Final Fantasy XIII’s adventure. Drawn out corridors. Lengthy convoluted cut-scenes. Yes, the experience will last you longer. But it’s also watered down. Make no mistake, Final Fantasy XIII is a good game – but if you’re comparing the length between Square Enix’s game and Sony Santa Monica’s – simply, you’re doing it wrong.

It’s not God Of War III’s length that’s important: it’s the journey. So what if you can complete it in less than ten hours — you’re going to see things in that span of time that you’ve never experienced before. And that’s really the true point of discussion here.

God Of War III’s Launch Trailer Should Have You Salivating On The Floor

God Of War III is out in America. We’ve already played and completed it. It’s actually one of the most satisfying video games this generation (on reflection, we’re comfortable saying that). Even if you’re not a fan of the genre, game or characters, you should probably play through this.

Anyway, even if you’re not yet convinced, this trailer will probably push you over the edge.

Behold: God Of War III’s launch trailer.

Report Hints At American Playstation 3 Stock Shortages Hindering God Of War III Sales

The L.A. Times Are Reporting That PS3 Stock Shortages Could Hinder God Of War III's Performance.

The L.A. Times Are Reporting That PS3 Stock Shortages Could Hinder God Of War III's Performance.

March: officially the biggest month in Playstation 3’s history. Not only has the month already seen the arrival of Final Fantasy XIII, a traditionally Playstation franchise, but it’s also about to witness the arrival of one of Playstation’s biggest exclusive franchises: God Of War III.

Sadly, there’s a hitch. While Sony have two of the biggest games possible this month, they’re also struggling to meet stock demands in America – arguably where the region they simply need to be delivering in.

The L.A. Times notes that depleted stock across America (both retail and online) could hinder God Of War III’s potential performance for the month of March.

“It’s not ideal, I won’t kid you,” Sony’s Jack Tretton said of the situation. “But I firmly believe we’ll get our hardware back in stock and keep selling God of War III for a long time.”

Still, stock shortages in a month where Playstation 3 should be ripping the competition to threads are a little concerning. But then – it’s a concern Sony will be pleased to have, considering the slow start the system had in the US.

“We ultimately don’t make investments on a product-by-product or month-by-month basis, but rather we invest in our platform,” Tretton said, explaining Sonny’s marketing and support strategy.

“This game will pay off for us with the people who own a PlayStation 3 and the ones who will buy one in the future.”

If you’re in America and want a Playstation 3, we insist you get phoning around stores right about now.

Asmussen: “Cut” God Of War III Ending Might Find Itself Released As Free DLC

Stig Asmussen Noted That God Of War III Might Get Some "Cut" Content In The Future.

Stig Asmussen Noted That God Of War III Might Get Some "Cut" Content As DLC In The Future.

God Of War III has an amazing ending. But originally it was going to be longer. It ended up getting cut, and Stig Asmussen was asked about the content returning as DLC on the Kotkau podcast.

He responded:

“There was a pretty large thing that we chopped from the ending that I had regrets about, but then something we added at the end that helps make up for it a little bit, and helps make it more personal.

“We had titan encounters in the game, we had a pretty big one planed for the end and we got pretty far with it, but it was just one of those deals where we just had so much.

“As far as DLC goes, it might be something we might think about getting out there someday.”

Stig noted that if the content was ever released as DLC, it would probably be free. Whether it’ll actually happen or not – we say it’s unlikely.

God Of War III on Playstation 3 Review.

God Of War III represents Playstation at its very finest. From the rip-roaring spectacle of the opening sixty-minutes, right through to the ultra-stylish conclusion; Kratos’ last hurrah is a marriage of refined combat mechanics, perfectly prepared puzzles and the kind of technical showcase that has you ripping the head from a water horse, while riding a gigantic other-being scaling Mount. Olympus. Unforgettable.
