Bioshock 2: "Unnecessary" But Apparently Still A Big Deal.

Apparently Bioshock is still a big deal, as Bioshock 2 has shot straight to the top of the UK charts, removing previous leader Mass Effect 2. Interestingly, after a slew of price-cuts (and perhaps that Playstation 3 patch), Bayonetta has re-entered the charts in number 10 (up from 36). Elsewhere, Fifa 10 and Modern Warfare 2 are still strong propositions.

Modern Warfare 2 Was The Playstation 3's Biggest Selling Game In '09. Surprise.

ELSPA’s confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 was the biggest selling game for the Playstation 3 in 2009. The news comes shortly after Modern Warfare 2 was announced as the biggest game of the year by ELSPA, raking in sales of £67million in just one week. The game’s now pulled in over $1billion.

Sitting next to Modern Warfare 2 in the Playstation 3’s overall 2009 sales charts was Fifa 10, Assassin’s Creed II, Killzone 2, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Fifa 10 was a big winner on the PSP too, taking top spot ahead of its predecessor Fifa 09. Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and LittleBigPlanet closed out the chart.

We said: “Beaterator is not a game, but a portable music studio inside your Playstation Portable. While being a particularly powerful tool, Beaterator succeeds mainly because it’s aware of its strengths. If you’re a beginner with an interest in music production or an experienced musician looking to compose on the go — you’ll be hard pushed to find a more complete package than Beaterator.”

#27: Noby Noby Boy on Playstation 3.

We said: “Noby Noby Boy is a baffling concept with ideals of teamwork and childhood strung together into a neat package. Few will scratch the surface, which considering the microscopic price tag, will suffice. For everyone else, there are hours of playtime to be had.”

#28: Gunstar Heroes on Playstation 3.

We said: “Gunstar Heroes was bizarrely excluded from SEGA’s Ultimate Mega Drive Collection, and while it’s irritating to not have an entire collection of Mega Drive titles collectively under one roof – it does make the PSN version of Gunstar Heroes worth so much more than it might have been.”

#29: FIFA 10 on Playstation 3.

We said: “Fifa 10 doesn’t seem all that different from Fifa 09 on the surface. In fact, you could spend hours with the game and not be able to pin-point any precise things that are better in Fifa 10. But, let this be known, subconsciously you’ll be enjoying it more. And that’s because despite familiarity, this is Fifa 09 polished to infinity.”

#30: PixelJunk Shooter on Playstation 3.

We said: “Despite an agonisingly premature campaign finale, PixelJunk Shooter maintains the simplicity and raw invitation that has made Q-Games’ pseudo-retro-genre-hopping franchise a clear winner.”

Modern Warfare 2 Is Still The Sole Purchasing Interest Of The British Consumer. Sorta.

Haven’t you bought it yet already? Well, we suppose there’s not much else coming out. That’s right folks: Modern Warfare 2 is still top of the UK sales charts. Hurrah, whoopee and all that.

Fifa 10’s second, Assassin’s Creed II’s third. Not much else to say.

Think Sticker Books Crossed With Management.

Remember the excellent “Ultimate Team” DLC for FIFA 09? We gave it 3/4 and were quite taken with it earlier this year. Well, EA have just announced an updated version of the DLC for FIFA 10. The DLC has been made over with a “redesigned chemistry system built around player relationships”. The DLC’s coming in February and will cost just $4.99 from the American PSN. Expect it around the £5 in the UK.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time Suffered A Lowly Entry On The UK All Formats Chart.

Huge disappointment for Insomniac Games in the UK. They have seen their excellent Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time reach a lowly number 22 in the UK all-formats chart. The game was beaten by Sony’s other release of the week, SingStar: Take That, which appeared to get much more marketing in the mainstream press than Ratchet.

Alas, with Modern Warfare 2 around the corner, the casual gamers took hold of the UK charts this week with Wii Fit Plus, FIFA 10 and Wii Sports Resort occupying the top spots.
