Capcom’s head honcho Haruhiro Tsujimota has told the FinancialTimes that they are to stop commissioning new IP from Western developers after the likes of Bionic Commando and Dark Void flopped. Capcom’s Japanese teams will now focus on new creations, while Western developers will be left handling ports and sequels.
“As a group, the new titles where development was led from abroad didn’t do so well,” he said. Interestingly, Canada’s Blue Castle are still working on Dead Rising 2 — we’re not sure how much confidence they’ll be getting from Capcom’s upper-bodies consistently berating Western development. Though, as a sequel it seems their jobs are secure. For now.
Moving on to Playstation Move, Tsujimota said he wants to see Sony’s business model for the product’s launch this fall.
“If there isn’t a strong business model message from the platform holders about how they will develop [motion controllers] with users, then I don’t think it will go well,” he said.
Sweetness and light from Capcom’s leading man then.
