#11: Eye Pet on Playstation 3.

We said: “If Eye Pet is a sneak peak at the future of Sony’s motion control plans, consider us very, very excited indeed. Despite primarily targeting a younger audience, Eye Pet’s forward-thinking technology, interesting gameplay mechanics and nauseatingly cute presentation should please anyone with a pulse.”

#12: Colin McRae: DiRT 2 on Playstation 3.

We said: “Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is a masterclass of engaging pacing, enjoyable racing and innovative presentation. A real spectacle.”

#13: Modern Warfare 2 on Playstation 3.

#13: Modern Warfare 2 on Playstation 3.

We said: “In trying to outdo Call Of Duty 4’s monstrous setpieces, Modern Warfare 2’s narrative becomes cluttered. Despite that though, Modern Warfare 2 is a prime showcase of Infinity Ward’s ability to create tight shooting and interesting mission design. It does nothing to drive the genre forward, and it’ll fail to surprise you like CoD4, but it’s still absolutely worth playing.”

#14: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on Playstation Portable.

#14: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on Playstation Portable.

We said: “Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a delightful package of tuned gameplay and inspired mission design wrapped together in a bow of cynical, dry writing.”

#15: Killzone 2 on Playstation 3.

#15: Killzone 2 on Playstation 3.

We said: “Killzone 2 is an audio-visual tour-de-force which defines a saturated genre without ever adding anything new to the recipe.”

Need For Speed Shift Heads Up UK Sales Charts, Playstation 3 Version Has Greater Share

Need For Speed Shift Sits Atop The British Sales Charts This Week.

Need For Speed Shift Sits Atop The British Sales Charts This Week.

Need For Speed Shift has jumped straight to the number one spot of the British sales charts, with 52% of the sales attributed to the Playstation 3 version — figures Sony must be pretty pleased with as they’ve watched their software share stakes grow over recent years.

The Beatles: Rock Band surprisingly dropped down the charts from fourth to seventh; with newcomer WET debuting at number six. DiRT 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Guitar Hero 5 rounded out the top four.

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 on Playstation 3 Multiplayer Impressions.

Racing games rarely need to go the extra mile when being played online. If the car and track selection is good then generally that’s all that is necessary. Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is a triumph in single-player racing, so naturally it’s a sure fit for excellent online play.

Shocker: Guitar Hero 5, Colin McRae DiRT 2 & Batman: Arkham Asylum Edge Out The Beatles In UK Sales Charts

Our Jaw Is Firmly Rested On The Floor Right About Now.

Our Jaw Is Firmly Rested On The Floor Right About Now.

Excuse us while we pick up our jaw. We knew the contest between The Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 was going to be kinda tight but we totally misjudged this. Especially in The Beatles’ homeland. Not only was the Fab Four’s foray into video games stomped by Guitar Hero 5, but it was also pipped at the post by (the admittedly excellent) Colin McRae: DiRT 2 and weeks old Batman: Arkham Asylum.

We’re actually dumb-founded — perhaps we under-estimated the pull of the Guitar Hero brand but… c’mon… we expected The Beatles: Rock Band to sell through the roof — to both a new breed of gamers (i.e. Mum & Dad players) and to those who already own a set of instruments.

Still there it is, The Beatles: Rock Band debuts at number 4 in the official British sales charts. Mull over it all you will. We’re going to have a lie down.

Sony To Publish DiRT 2 For PSP, PS3 In PAL Land

DiRT 2 Will Be Published By Sony Across Europe.

Sony are set to publish another third-party game post Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Codemasters’ DiRT 2 will be published on the Playstation 3 and PSP in PAL territories by Sony. It will not be a timed-Sony exclusive like Ghostbusters was, Codemasters will still handle all the publishing of the other platform releases.

Codemasters are pretty pleased to see Sony take over publishing duties, their VP of publishing Axel Herr citing the series’ “great affinity with the PlayStation brand in PAL territories for over 10 years”. It’s unknown yet how Sony will push the game.
