Oh Look, It’s People Talking About That F1 2010 Game

Codemasters has released a video which contains some footage from their upcoming F1 2010 game. The video features a number of key dudes from the game’s development talking about the game and cars and stuff. It’s also got that famous “niaaaaaaaaooooow” sound a lot.

Looks like Codies have nailed it.

Codemasters’ VP Ain’t All That Impressed With The Playstation Portable

Codemasters' Top Bod Ain't All That Impressed With Sony's Portable.

Codemaster’s VP Gavin Cheshire has had a right rant at the PSP and its younger sibling the PSPgo in the latest issue of EDGE magazine. In the interview, he describes the system as “bollocking useless waste of space”.

“Well, speaking as a person who bought a PSP, the problem was that I always thought – because it was a better screen than iPod’s – that I’d be doing more with it. But it was such a bollocking useless waste of space; just getting stuff on it was ridiculous.

“That was its downfall. Relatively speaking, [Codemasters] didn’t do too badly on F1 PSP. But regarding the future, I think they’ve got – well… no.”

And of the PSPgo:

“PSPgo’s a lovely device. It’s really smart – but our senior VP bought one the day it came out and has a great story, because he ended up on some customer support line just trying to do basic stuff. He had to re-download his software, do an immediate firmware update, and that’s your user experience.”

Speaking on a personal level, we haven’t had one squib of trouble getting content on our PSP, but if people are having difficulty (which inevitably it seems they are), then it’s an area Sony could definitely improve.

From a business stance we’re sure Gavin has his reasoning for disliking the system, but his criticism seems a little subjective in reality. There are definitely improvements Sony can make to the platform, but it’s still the first non-Nintendo handheld to really compete in the space.

Rejoice: DiRT 3 Is In Development, Confirms Codemasters

DiRT 3 Is In Development At Codies. Hurrah!

DiRT 3 Is In Development At Codies. Hurrah!

Codemasters’ VP Gavin Cheshire has confirmed that DiRT 3 is absolutely in development at the studio.

Speaking with EDGE on the studio’s status as one of the last big publishers based in the UK, Gavin stated:

“Really, it’s all about letting the teams just innovate. There’s some great stuff coming from Birmingham that’s going into Dirt 3, and obviously you’ve seen Bodycount.

“I guess in today’s world, every day you’re dealing with people from all over the world. So it’s a British company and the last bastion of British publishing, and there is some pride in that, but it doesn’t take control of your life.

“It’s about the culture we’ve created and making the best games you can. Dirt 2: brilliant game but it’s all American accents, so maybe we’re a little over the top with those. Maybe we should fly the flag a bit more.”

We weren’t necessarily offended by the “USA-USA!” nature of DiRT 2, but we did love the driving mechanics of the game, so we absolutely look forward to a follow-up.

Ooooh... Rain. Yum.

Petrol heads: it’s official. Codemasters has announced F1 2010 for Playstation 3 this September. It’s the first F1 game since 2007’s F1: Championship Edition.

The game’s going to be built around the 2010 Formula One season about to kick off in Bahrain this weekend. It’s officially licensed so it’ll have all the drivers, teams, etc. etc.

Oh, the game features rain too. It’s coming out in September.

Bodycount Man: Black 2 Was In Development At Criterion, Was Canned Soon After

At One Stage, Black 2 Was Totally Going To Happen.

At One Stage, Black 2 Was Totally Going To Happen.

Stuart Black, the man behind the PS2’s excellent Black and upcoming PS3 shooter Bodycount, has revealed that Black 2 was in development at Criterion.

The head told Gamespot that the game was shelved after the team lost their “direction”.

“I certainly did some preliminary pre-production work on Black 2 once we finished Black, the first three or four months. I moved on quite quickly after that.

“A lot of the guys on the team I’m working with here now carried on with that and did a lot of pre-production for about a year or so on Black [2], before that kind of bit the dust.

“So, I don’t really have personal knowledge about how that all played out. But there seemed to be overall a kind of general lack of direction. I’d be surprised if they managed that again.”

Of course, Stuart Black’s now making the spiritual successor to Black in Bodycount, a game that’s due on PS3 early next year.

Bodycount Will “Rip Apart The FPS”, Be “Genre Defining”

Brat - Brat - Brat.

Lofty claims are being made about Codemasters new FPS Bodycount. The words “genre” and “defining” have popped up in Codemasters’ press release piece – suggesting they’re apparently taking this game pretty seriously.

“Our core focus for Bodycount is to deliver best-in-class gun play that places the gamer at the heart of the experience,” said Codemasters’ Tom Gillo.

“From the jaw-dropping devastation caused by firing into enemies or shredding the world around you in a hail of bullets, Bodycount will crystallise that moment of pulling the trigger into an exhilarating sensory overload of action.”

Phew. Blimey. Lofty, lofty claims indeed. But the screenshots do look good.

The game’s due on Playstation 3 in Q1, 2011.

Bodycount Hitting Playstation 3 In Q1, 2011

Yup, Looks Like A Game By The Dude That Made Black.

Yup, Looks Like A Game By The Dude That Made Black.

Codemasters has announced that Bodycount, the new first-person shooter from ex-Criterion dude Stuart Black, will hit the Playstation 3 in the first quarter of 2011. At this stage, details are extremely scarce, but one thing we do know is that the game will run on Codemasters’ fantastic EGO engine (DiRT 2, Operation Flashpoint).

Black told Joystiq, “Our shredding tech enables us to create a different kind of gameplay, where players and AI can’t hide behind indestructible cover. Here the environment is constantly changing as the game world is shot to hell; it’s going to be a huge amount of fun.”

Given Stuart Black was involved with PS2 title, erm, Black – there’s every possibility this will be amazing. And explosive.
