We said: “Thanks to its low price-point, the fact that Patapon 2 feels more like an extension than a sequel is perfectly balanced with the fact that there is plenty of fun to be had, whether you’re a series veteran or a newcomer.”

GamesCom 09: Dead Nation Is Playstation 3 Exclusive From Super Stardust Developers

We posted about Dead Nation yesterday when the game’s title leaked. Now we’ve got the trailer. The PSN exclusive is a zombie shoot ‘em up from the developers of Super Stardust HD. Carrying a grindhouse like feel, it’s an isometric shooter in a similar vein as Burn, Zombie, Burn!.

This Is What Burn, Zombie, Burn! Looks Like When You’re Stuck In Space

Should you ever find yourself stuck aboard a space-ship, billions of miles away from the planet Earth, when a zombie invasion happens to break out, you might wish you’d have played the upcoming Burn, Zombie, Burn! In Space… expansion. Because more than likely that will teach you to set fire to zombies and cut them up with chainsaws for mega score multipliers. And you’re gonna need to know about that.

Burn, Zombie, Burn! Now Features YouTube Uploading & Custom Soundtracks.

Seriously we don’t understand why more games don’t include YouTube uploading. LittleBigPlanet for example is a game that would thrive from the functionality. Still, we guess it makes it all the more special when a game does include YouTube uploading. Like Burn, Zombie, Burn! which has just got a patch to support the functionality. The new patch will also allow you to play custom soundtracks within the game (which is awesome because the music in that game gets irritating).

The patch also includes a trailer for the upcoming extension Burn, Zombie, Burn! In Space – which we assume takes place on the moon or something.

Alongside the patch, developers Double Six have confirmed that Burn, Zombie, Burn! went on to sell 70,000 copies; an extremely tidy number for the developer.

If you’re yet to try out the game we recommend it; we honoured the game’s risk & reward setup in our review earlier this year.

DoubleSix “Absolutely” Delighted With Burn, Zombie, Burn! & Sony’s “Pub-Fund” Scheme

Burn, Zombie, Burn! Was Released Via Sony's "Pub Fund" Scheme.

Announced during GDC 2009, Sony’s “Pub Fund” was a scheme that independent developers must have come away thinking rather positively about. Essentially, the program matches a PSN game’s production costs in royalties, in exchange for PS3 exclusivity. It’s something which Burn, Zombie, Burn! devs have touted as “invaluable”.

James Brooksby, studio head of Doublesix, spoke to other developers, saying, “I think there’s a number of other ways in which the Pub Fund can help you, not least because Sony suddenly has a more vested interest in your product’s success.” Since Sony is looking for a good return on its considerably sizable investment, not everyone can get on the Pub Fund. “Obviously there will be a level of quality expected from Sony’s side, so not everyone will be suitable for Sony either,” said Brooksby.

“We put a lot of money into the marketing of Burn Zombie Burn,” Brooksby said. “And our own funding, along with Sony’s, helped achieve great exposure for the game.”

He concludes by stating that the team have been “absolutely delighted” with the sales of the game so far. If you haven’t got the game yet, you really should. It’s great fun, as our review confirms here.

GDC ‘09: Sony Encourage PSN Exclusivity

Burn Zombie Burn Is The First PSN Exclusive To Be Supported By The "Pub Fund" Scheme.

Burn Zombie Burn Is The First PSN Exclusive To Be Supported By The "Pub Fund" Scheme.

Sony have today announced a scheme that may ensure a slew of new exclusive PSN content. The scheme entitled “Pub Fund” has Sony matching the development costs of PSN exclusives.

“We’re looking for a number of great games, and in return for exclusivity we’ll match your development budget with guaranteed royalties,” Sony’s Chris Eden said.

This is not Sony buying your product,” Eden noted. “You’ll be the publisher, you’ll own the IP and you’ll control your product. This is assisting you to make your next step from developer to publisher.”

The first game to take advantage of the Pub Fund deal is Burn Zombie Burn (look out for our review later) which was released yesterday on the PSN. The strategy sounds like a win-win for Sony, developers and gamers. Hurrah!
