Focus On MAG's Squads, And You'll Notice The Game Is Much More Co-op Inspired Than It May At First Seem.
Never in all my years of opinionating have I been more sure of one thing: co-op is the future of online multiplayer. There’ll always be a place in video games for the wrought solo escapades of a tight single-player experience, as will there always be the space for competitive multiplayer — but co-op is the future.
There’s one thing you can ensure if you have Killzone 2’s producer working on your game: it’s going to look sensational. And Brink looks fucking unreal right now. The gameplay videos dropped after the jump show a hyper-stylised universe with some super-tight shooting. Gameplay-wise, the demo looks fairly standard fare, but that art-style is wonderful.
With Brink still about a year off, you should probably have high hopes for this one.
Brink Aims To Revolutionise The Traditional Single Player Campaign With Online Options.
We’re not huge multiplayer gamers. We enjoy it, but we’re not the type of people who can make a game’s multiplayer mode last a year or two. That’s just, meh. Still, there are a lot of gamers out there that don’t even touch a multiplayer mode. And those are the type of people Splash Damage want to convert with their innovative FPS Brink.
“It’s our goal from the outset to incidentally teach people to be good at multiplayer shooters while they’re playing our single-player shooter,” explains Splash Damage’s Paul Wedgwood. “At a certain point in the game we say to them, ‘Why don’t you just try co-op and see how you go? For this next mission we’re going to give you twice the number of experience points if you play co-operatively with somebody else.’”
It’s a top idea, and we’re interested to see how this game turns out. You’ve got to give Splash Damage kudos for shooting high.
We’re going to be open right now and admit that aside from this trailer we don’t have a clue what Brink is all about. We’re guessing the gunshots mean there will be shooting. We’re guessing from the monologue that it’s going to be some kind of sci-fi game. Other than that, all we have is a release date, Spring 2010.
