The Mass Effect Franchise Has To Come To PS3 At Some Point – “Twiggy” The PushSquare Opinionator

Mass Effect Is Coming To The Playstation 3 In Some Form. It Has To.

Mass Effect Is Coming To The Playstation 3 In Some Form. It Has To.

This week news broke that there is redundant PS3 code in the PC version of Mass Effect 2. Naturally this brought up a whole host of rumours that Bioware had a PS3 version of the game running somewhere, and it was only a matter of time before one of the year’s highest rated games hit Sony’s machine. Bioware were quick to dispell the myths, reiterating the game as “PC and XBOX 360 only.” Does it really make sense for the franchise to stay that way though?

If you ever wanted to clutch at straws regarding the release of an “exclusive” game, then now is the time. A cracked piece of Mass Effect 2 source code seems to retain two-lines of code retaining to the apparent existence of a Playstation 3 version of the game.

Source code from the PC version of the game, reads:

[SFXGame.BioSFHandler_CharacterR?ecord2]
m_nMaxRenegade=1900
m_nMaxParagon=1957
m_srXPFormat=340881
m_srSpendTalentPointsMessageXBox?=348754

m_srSpendTalentPointsMessagePC=3?48753
m_srParagonRenegadeMessagePC=348?755
m_srSpendTalentPointsMessagePS3=?348755
m_srParagonRenegadeMessagePS3=15?3007

You’re looking for the bottom six lines of code, each belonging to the “XBox”, “PC”, and – whut? – “PS3″ versions of the game. At the very least, if not a coincidence, this means there is a PS3 version of the game somewhere. Of course, it could be mean nothing at all.

We’re still holding hope for a Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2 blu-ray compilation pack a little later in the year. EA may aswell, it’ll surely sell a million or so copies.

Bioware: A “Few” Playstation 3 Titles Are In The Works; Cross Your Fingers For Mass Effect

Bioware Have A Few Playstation 3 Projects In The Works.

Bioware Have A Few Playstation 3 Projects In The Works.

As a Playstation fan, it’s been pretty gut-wrenching to see those exceptional Mass Effect 2 scores roll in. Not because we want the PC/XBOX 360 title to fail; but because we know we’re not going to be able to play it on PS3. Yet.

Still, with EA owning all publishing rights for the Mass Effect IP, we can always pray that a port of both the original game and its sequel will arrive on Sony’s black behemoth at some point.

Lending hope to our prayers, Bioware’s Ray Muzyka has confirmed that his company have Playstation 3 projects in development via a webchat on Eurogamer.

“I can say that we’ve got a few titles in development for PS3 right now, as well as a few for 360, across the studios I manage. But I won’t say what they are, since not all of them have been announced yet,” he said.

“Dragon Age was our first title for PS3, and it’s done really well. PS3 is a great system and we enjoy developing for it, much as we enjoy developing for 360 and PC and other platforms.”

Please be Mass Effect. Please be Mass Effect.

Given the success of Dragon Age: Origins on the Playstation 3, it’s no surprise to see Bioware come out and give Sony’s hardware a bit of love. In an interview with Joystiq, Bioware co-honcho Greg Zeschuk described the Playstation 3 as a “key platform,” and a system the company will definitely develop for in the future.

On the subject of Mass Effect 2 though, Greg was typically defiant. “We’re not saying anything about Mass Effect for PS3. I don’t know anything about that! That’s crazy talk. I don’t know anything about that,” he joked.

The ongoing sub-drama of Mass Effect 2’s potential appearance on the Playstation 3 goes on. Everytime the question’s raised, a less than convincing answer is given. This time it’s  Bioware’s Greg Zeschuck who is pressed on the possibility of a Playstation 3 port on GTTV. His response? “We’re not saying anything.”

That Playstation 3 port continues to look more and more likely, but we guess time will tell.

Dragon Age: Origins Will Not See A Small Delay On PS3.

Yesterday we told you that Dragon Age: Origins was getting a small delay on Playstation 3.That ain’t so now folks. The game’s totally launching on time again — day and date with the XBOX 360 and PC versions on November 3rd. Europeans will have to wait a little a longer, but hey – if you were excited for Dragon Age, we assume you’re pretty stoked right now.

Playstation 3 players will get their hands on Dragon Age: Origins a little bit later than everybody else, as the game is set to launch on November 17th. The reason for delay is just so Bioware can tune the game “up to standards” which to be honest, given the history of companies just releasing shitty ports to PS3, we can admire in Bioware. Yes there’s a little delay, but hey, it shows the consumer base that they care enough to not re-release a sub-standard product. Which is nice to know.
