Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a military, multiplayer shooter has sold a ton of copies in Europe and the US. That’s right: EA’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has mustered sales of over 2.3 million over the last couple of weeks.

Interestingly, aswell as the hard sales figures, EA has provided some more light-hearted facts pertaining to the game’s success, such as 81 billion points racked up in multiplayer games, 6 million video views on YouTube and in the past 24 hours, 2.9 million hours have been spent playing online. Impressive stuff.

Heavy Rain’s affair with the number one spot of the British gaming charts is over (though it still sits at a respectable fourth place). Indeed, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has taken the top spot this week, with 31 per cent of the sales being accountable to the PS3 SKU.

SEGA got a double hit with Aliens vs Predator and Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing occupying the third and fifth spot; and Ubisoft’s Just Dance is still at number two.

Worry not guys, the ApocalyPS3 has totally 101% passed, and you might be looking to pick up some games to make up for it. Well, what with the month being March, there’s plenty to choose from, so let’s hop to it.

PushSquare’s Playstation Pick Of The Week: Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Just about edging out MLB 10: The Show, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the latest box release in the popular Battlefield franchise. Expect exploding buildings, vehicles and lots of “ooah” chanting.

Also:

MLB 10: The Show, Sony’s hyper-realistic first-party baseball game releases next to 2K’s “never quite as good” MLB 2K10 franchise in the US. The PSP and Playstation 2 get the MLB games too, with the PSP also netting its own version of Dante’s Inferno.

Uncharted 2? Bioshock 2? Modern Warfare 2? MAG? Is There Too Much Cross-Over?

Uncharted 2. Bioshock 2. Modern Warfare 2. MAG. Is There Too Much Cross-Over?

It seems to me that every video game has multiplayer these days. More or less. And even when it’s debateable whether a game should have multiplayer (Bioshock 2 springs to mind), the resulting component tends to be rather impressive. But that causes its own sub-set of problems, particularly for someone like myself who has to play through multiple games a week. There just isn’t enough time for all this multiplayer.
