Ghost of Tsushima's staggering success in Japan is well documented at this point. Not only did the PlayStation 4 exclusive break sales records for Sony, it also inspired the real island of Tsushima to make Sucker Punch studio heads Nate Fox and Jason Connell permanent ambassadors. A huge honour, and it's just got even better for the Seattle-based developer.
At the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2020 — which just took place over the weekend — Ghost of Tsushima managed to scoop an impressive number of fan-voted gongs. For starters, Daisuke Tsuji, the English voice actor and face of protagonist Jin Sakai, won Best Actor. Jin Sakai was also crowned Best Character.
Ghost of Tsushima itself won Best Graphics and Best Action Adventure Game. Meanwhile, Sucker Punch was credited as Most Valuable Creator, alongside Nintendo's Animal Crossing team.
Since its release in July last year, it's been great to see Ghost of Tsushima do so well in Japan. The samurai epic has clearly struck a chord with many a Japanese gamer, and we can't help but ponder the impact of the game's inevitable sequel.

Well deserved
Congrats for SP
Congrats to Sucker Punch! I remember reading quite a bit of criticism upon release about Jin’s supposed flat character. For me, Tsuji’s work here was some of the most emotionally affecting and authentic I’ve seen in a game, and it’s nice to see him recognized for it.
So many emotional and epic moments in that game. When a game can legit make grown ass adults cry you know it's doing something right.
I got the plat, but I never did NG+.
I'll have to get back to it over the summer. 🤔
Amazing game, so well deserved.
Brilliant game!
I love Sony are still ready to risk a new IP and allow their studios to make it such a success.
Nice work SP.
I couldn't be more delighted with how GoT turned out and received, a sequel is all but certain at this point but I do wonder what kind of location they could go with in terms of a occupied part of Japan. Tsushima was a perfect location for Sucker Punch in that they could base a real historical event to ground it's story. It immediately gives the player enemies to fight that narratively makes sense, it's island setting give them the chance to do different biomes and arguably most importantly, it wasn't a huge place where the devs would feel compelled to fill it with busy-work.
@AdamNovice Well I don't know the history of it but from what I've heard there was a second war? So I guess they could still make a sequel around Tsushima if they wanted to.
Jin's getting a bit too excited with that fox.
Amazing game. Love it and all the accolades it's receiving. Now I just need to unwrap it and install it.
I'm playing this game right now (just got to the 2nd part) and loving it so far.
100% deserving. Such a beautiful game.
@Nepp67 That's true though I think it would be treading old ground if it was just Tsushima again. I know one major character mentioned wanting to go to Kyoto, so that's possible location.
I still need to buy it!!! xd
Glad it's getting the love it deserves somewhere. American/European critics are obsessed with Last of Us Part II so much that GoT is getting overshadowed most other places.
Well deserved, fantastic game from start to finish
