Mafia II: Definitive Edition was a technical disaster on PS4 and PS4 Pro at launch. Riddled with frame rate issues, game-breaking bugs, and more, we awarded the remaster a 4/10 in our scathing review. But now, almost a whole month later, the game's newest update is promising improved performance on Sony's system.
The official patch notes read:
- Addressed a reported concern that the 2K Account icon was sometimes getting stuck on the screen
- [PS4] Improved game performance on PlayStation®4 consoles
- [PS4] Addressed a reported concern that the "Enforcer" trophy would sometimes not unlock on PS4
- Addressed reported concerns related to game audio
- Addressed reported concerns related to refining gameplay
Better late than never, we suppose, assuming that this update does dramatically improve the experience on PS4.

I am waiting for whole trilogy release. Give us a word whether it works already. I hope it does.
I honestly feel that their plan was to release the trilogy in August (when the Mafia remake is set to drop) and for some reason someone in charge went and jumped the gun and in doing so tossed out months of polish work that the devs thought they had. I really hope they get these games patched up proper in time, but it's still sad to see.
Will the review be revised if the game is technically better after the patch?
@mwatcher I don't think reviewers should. Publishers need some sort of consequence for rushing and mishandling a project, in order to hit an arbitrary launch date.
Look at how good the Saints Row remaster is, or the Switch ports of Borderlands and Bioshock are. If you want to be known as the company that releases quality games, actually release quality games.
They've lost my interest for now. I'm super excited for the remake of the first game. Depending on how well that's done, I may jump back into 2 and 3 afterwards
I wonder how many times these Bethesda and 2K account nags are actually bugs and not features. I remember when you claimed a bug as by design, these days it's twisted. But if they patch it to how it should be I'll stop complaining, I just can't stand the suits and their ways.
Mmmmm a 6 gb update. That must be for both games. I noticed things weren’t the same on my pro with 3, was all a little dark n fuzzy. Hope this update sorts stuff out!!!!

Well it hasn't fixed the reoccurring music bug in chapter 7 and glitchin grass.
only wiling to try it out once digital foundry does the framerate analysis post-patch and it turns out to be much better.
However, I am sure they will have game toned down, rather than actually optimizing the code
Lets buy The Last of Us Part II and forget about this mess.
Love how it kicks off with the 2k account issue "sometimes" pops up...when any number of YT lets plays like Jim Stirling's had it throughout!
Doesn't really require a whole revised review but maybe if push square gave it a spin for a mission or so & see how it generally feels.
I lost interest when I learned only the Mafia 1 remake would be getting a physical release.
I shall be waiting for bargain bin sales on both Mafia 1 and 2, already own Mafia 3 Complete.
The game still glitches really bad. And after I beat the game, the credits roll but then it goes to the main menu. When I try to continue the game it just starts back at the last part of the last mission again so I guess I gotta start a new game to free roam?
