Looks like Crash is back. Earlier this week, Activision began sending out some sort of Crash Bandicoot related puzzle to influencers. Given this is very similar behaviour to the publisher's actions when announcing games like Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, it's safe to assume some sort of reveal is on the way. It turns out this reveal could bring us an all-new game starring the PS1 platforming hero.
Taiwanese age rating listings have been discovered for a game entitled Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. That's right: it seems Activision is feeling brave enough to slap a number on this entry after a bajillion adventures since Warped.
The rating brings with it some interesting things. Firstly, there's the box art you can see pictured here, which looks legitimate to us, and reveals the game is being made by Toys for Bob. Secondly is a description, which gives us the setup for the story:
Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli. The mask is one of the Quantum Masks and apparently knows Aku-Aku, Crash’s mask friend! With the Quantum Masks returning and a Quantum Rift appearing near our heroes, they decide to bravely head through to different times and dimensions to stop whoever is responsible.
This explains the mask in the aforementioned jigsaw puzzle -- it must be this new character, Lani-Loli.
Another interesting factoid comes from the listing for the Xbox One version of the same game. If you look at the cover art for this platform, you'll notice it says both Xbox One and Xbox Series X in the upper left. Does this mean Crash 4 is a cross-gen game coming to PlayStation 5? It seems likely.
All this leaked info presumably will be made official in the very near future. But there you have it: Crash is getting a brand new game after all this time. Are you excited to see It's About Time in action? Spin attack into the comments section below.

Weird it's not a PS5 exclusive
EDIT: I mean weird it's on PS4 instead of being next gen
I like the name, not only is the game based around time concepts, it's also about time we got a brand new Crash Bandicoot!
I'm looking forward to this, especially with Toys for Bob working on the game! Spyro Reignited Trilogy was great, and I'm guessing Vicarious are busy with THPS.
Will be interesting to see how it measures up against the original Naughty Dog games.
It does say at the bottom of the xbox box "xbox one game playable on the xbox series x" so I'm guessing it will work on ps5 but just backwards compatible
Sweet... It is about time!!!
Now we know why the release date for cyberpunk shifted
In seriousness, i am looking forward to hearing more about this one. I'd play it - pending any reviews. Post warped crash had had a rocky time (at least until the remakes) so i would want to see some honest appraisals
@HarryHyruleHero - Not weird at all, Crash has been multiplat for almost 20 years now.
I had assumed that that cover was a joke in response to the Crash Bandicoot jigsaw tease.
Either way, it will be good to see a new Crash game.
Based on that cover art, I'd say it looks more like Crash Bandicoot on acid!
Good news if it's true. With Ratchet and Clank, and Sackboy as well, I can't remember a generation launching with so many quality family-friendly titles
@Quintumply that's just for backwards compatibility so people are aware, I think true cross gen games will have the optimised for Series X logo
@Ichiban Crash suffers from a tragic medical condition known as "Resting Derp Face," which has been known to flare up from time to time. Have a little sympathy!
@carlos82 Ah, that makes sense. I guess we should learn more soon enough.
The logo seems a bit off. It looks like they've underlined "dic" with the line by "It's About Time"
Nice, I'm up for a new Crash adventure.
@Matroska IT'S DIC* TIME!
No disrespect but there is probably not much optimising on a game like this after the Xbox one x and PS4 Pro editions. They will probably be 4K ish 30 FPS.
Really excited for another Crash! What about a new Spyro too?
PS4 or PS5 I don't care because I just want it on any Console(well any PlayStation console that is)
I'm really happy for a continuation of ND's Crash games, find it a little weird that its Toys For Bob and not Vicarious Visions that are handling it
If the previous collection is anything to go by, I'll be picking this up on PC down the line. Glad to see a new entry though, hope it's like the collection,. gameplay and design wise.
I'd probably wait for a switch version next year but the other half won't wait. So day 1 it is!
I l💖ve the title.its about time.crash is back.man crash bandicoot and syphon filter was the games that made me appreciate ps1 even more.insane trilogy is amazing.word up son
Really happy this is happening and that it's number 4. The background for the game feels cool as well, sounds like there will be a nice mixture of level themes.
@Redman35 my guess is that they're focusing on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2
@Churchy I didn't know they were handling that, makes sense
@HarryHyruleHero why? Sony don't and have never owned Crash
@Fath hahaha that's brilliant😅
Another time travel one?
That said I’m pumped!
@Alinikookaz interestingly enough, Sony have never owned Crash Bandicoot or Spyro, they published them for Universal Games I believe. Unless you mean they should have bought Universal Games, which I was sad they didn't.
The description reads like "Sonic Generations" to me, maybe new 1998 Crash will run into N'Sane Trilogy Crash?
I'll wait to see. As much as I like 3D platformers - really all I play are 3D platformers and JRPG - I'm not a fan of Crash's linearity, or whatever you want to call it, almost on rails.
I did like the new Toys for Bob Spyro games, which are just kind of simplistic 3D platformers. But's it's Crash, so I expect they'll keep it like Crash. But I'm interested.
They are going to have to bring their A game w/ a new ratchet & Clank and even Sackboy releasing.
That box art is lovely.
@HarryHyruleHero I suspect the game has been in development for years and it's too late for them to port it to PS5, they have a deadline to meet from the publisher.
@playstation1995 @HollowSpectre @Menchi @Redman35 @Carl-G @Wazeddie22 @Rob_230 @Crimson_Ridley @Gremio108 Also excited! Gives me motivation to finally play the Remake Trilogy and beat it.
It's certainly about time, that's for sure.
Ill get it on PS5.
Way overdue after all the crap since Number 3
Now for a proper Spyro 4
Terrible box art. Looks like a mobile game. Game will be rubbish too. Mark my words.
@Dezzy70 60 fps?
I was really hopping for the title to be Crash Bandicoot 4: it's Time to Crash and Burn
For some reason I have never been fan of any of the Crash Bandicoot games, so I can't say I'm stoked for this new game, especially when it is been developed by a studio which best games (since 1990) consisted on remasters of older games.
Anyhow, I recently played and finished the remastered trilogy, and I thought it was OK at best, nothing more, nothing less. I might try this game after it gets discounted though.
I'm more of a Ratchet and Clank fan, especially the gameplay aspect of it.
Yeah, I was really expecting this one at the ps5 reveal! Hope it gets a release date soon.
