The Last of Us: Part II has been a long time coming. Announced all the way back in 2016, fans of Joel and Ellie have been waiting years for the return of this beloved series. The release date is now just around the corner, but we're feeling reflective. Want to see all the trailers for The Last of Us 2 in the order they were shown? Look no further as we run through each one below.
This teaser trailer debuted all the way back at PlayStation Experience 2016, and it was met with a huge reaction. PS4 fans exploded with uproarious applause when the Fireflies emblem first appeared on that stop sign. From there, the dark mood was set with an older Ellie playing a song on her guitar, with shaky hands and blood dripping down her face. That's to say nothing of the numerous bodies and buckets of blood littering the house. From the very start, it's suggested that Ellie means serious business in the sequel.
The second trailer for The Last of Us 2 doesn't feature Ellie or Joel at all, instead focusing on another set of characters. This video is incredibly dark, featuring scenes of torture. Heck, we nearly see someone disemboweled while being lynched. An infamous trailer that for some is just downright unpleasant, it makes it clear as day this sequel has a pitch black tone, and isn't holding anything back. Quite who these characters are and what their relation is to the main duo, we still don't know.
Things are much lighter in this lengthy gameplay trailer from E3 2018 -- or at least, they are to start with. Here, we're introduced to Ellie's friends, Jesse and Dina, as a party of some sort is taking place. We're then shown the nature of Ellie's relationship with Dina before the trailer promptly pivots into much darker territory. Showcasing intense stealth and combat, we see our leading lady tear through a group of baddies who refer to her as "Wolf".
Shown in a State of Play last year, this trailer initially informed us of a February release date, but was quickly changed to May and then June. But what did this trailer show us? Well, it shows us more of the settlement where Ellie lives, and a patrol through a snowy wilderness. Things go south when it appears Dina is taken and killed, setting Ellie on the warpath. We're also finally reintroduced to Joel, who's been missing up to now.
That brings us to the most recent trailer. It once again focuses on Ellie and her quest for vengeance, but we're treated to some flashbacks to her and Joel traveling together. However, things go dark once again as we watch events turn more and more violent, Ellie relentlessly killing anyone in her way. One thing's for sure: this game is going to be a wild ride that makes the first entry look like a child's pop-up book by comparison.
That's it for The Last of Us 2 trailers. Given how long ago the game was announced, there aren't that many. Still, the game is very nearly here, so we can discover what happens for ourselves soon. I enjoyed the 2nd trailer (torture scene) the most.
Really set the tone of what to expect from the game. I should feel uncomfortable seeing another human being be tortured in a post apocolyptic society.
realy looking forward to it.
replaying the first game again to set the mood.
also love the flashbacks in the trailer. set's up the relationship with joel pretty well.
I'm also replaying the first game. It's still a very impactful, intense experience. Can't wait to be left in ruins by the sequel.
I quite like going back and watching old trailers, sometimes even long after a game has released. It's cool to see them in retrospect and see how the game developed, if it lived up to its promises etc.
Also gonna be starting my replay of the first game soon. I wanna try and get through it all on Grounded.
Interested to see what the difficulty options are for Part 2. I might not use it, but I'm hoping that Grounded makes an immediate return and I might even try to grind my way through on that first time, playing it almost like a Souls game.
I know that a lot of people are upset with this game after the leaks and the direction they went with the game...but, I don't know, I think it still looks really good. I'm looking forward to it!
I'm predicting this game will be a Joel In One.
Wont watch any of them i want to go in fresh.
