With the release date for Final Fantasy VII Remake fast approaching, Square Enix has issued a statement with regards to the ongoing coronavirus situation and how it could impact the game's launch.
The good news is that Final Fantasy VII Remake has not been delayed. It's still set to release on the 10th April 2020. The bad news is that if you've ordered a physical copy of the game, you may not be getting it at launch. This is largely due to the fact that various retailers are now having to prioritise the stocking of necessities, and obviously, video games don't fall into that category.
Square Enix says that pre-orders across both Europe and North America could be affected, and that it'll provide any further updates through official channels.

yeah i think the same will happen for TLOU and even perhaps GOT.
digital releases will be on time but hard copies will suffer.
shame since this does split the consumerbase and this will be terrible for spoilers.
@jdv95 not really terrible for spoilers. It’s not like everyone plays a new release at the same pace, is it?
I got an email from Amazon yesterday saying it’d be delayed. I’m debating switching to digital, but I’ll be out $20 because of credit I used to get the deluxe edition. I’ll decide right before the release date I guess. I can’t fault Amazon, they’re putting their priorities where they should be, but it’s still disappointing.
@LN78 Great point mate! If you buy it from a company that doesn't need to prioritise over anything else then we should get a copy as per normal. One can hope.
also this might push digital sales forward even more.
more people will no doubt buy games digitally the next few months just to be sure they will get it in time.
i think lot's of those people will stick with digital even after the crisis is over just because they got used to it by then, and convenience.
man those online gift card stores will be booming.
Yeah, I’m gonna get digital in that case, I’ve just been waiting for it too long and I don’t really care that much about physical unless it’s a nice limited edition.
I'll be upset if mine gets delayed but at the end if the day this is a game i FEEL i must get the physical copy for and given the only other option in the UK is from GAME i'll wait if i have to
I refuse to use GAME those b******* wont get another penny from ne
My game for April is Sakura Wars that most people do not want with FF and RE3 on the same month.
Pretty safe I will find a copy.
I preordered the LE from EB Games so if I don't get it on release day or there abouts then yes, it is delayed, because I'm not buying it digitally.
I cancelled my preorder at amazon a while ago to preorder with Shopto and i haven't heard about a delay. YET. But i have been thinking about this for a few days, and ultimately if its delayed, its delayed. What is going on in the world is far more important right now.
It would be nice if those who have preordered physical copies were offered a digital copy while they wait, but i don't imagine its likely
My choices are get into Game and buy it on 10th in morning physical, or download it. You know, I’ll probably just download it. There will be a collection down the line physical I bet, I can always get that if I’m keen.
The party of FF7 delays never ends!
I pre-ordered digital about a month ago. I'm ready!
Debating whether to keep my discounted physical deluxe edition or go digital to get it on time. I just don't know...
Yeah kind of disappointed my physical deluxe version is on delay. I really am looking forward to playing, but I do know my backlog keeps staring me at the face anyways, and that a few weeks delay is not the worst. I'm going to keep it for now, but if they push it out to far i'll probably cancel it and just get the normal version locally at a walmart or something.
@Odium When I pre-ordered Arkham Knight (the one that originally came with the batmobile statue) from Amazon, I got an e-mail saying that the statue was not up to standards and it would be delayed (which later turned out to be a completely different statue and is Batman over Gotham). They then offered me up a free digital version of the game (they sent me the code), as well as some skin dlc. They then sent me out the package when it was ready. Amazon have absolutely incredible customer service, you might get lucky.
@nookie_egg they have incredible customer service. I was supposed to get KHIII on release date, but it shipped late. I contacted them just to see if it had shipped or not because I hadn’t gotten an email, they said there was an issue, offered me a refund for the game and still shipped it to me. They are usually fantastic to deal with.
I got an email from Amazon yesterday saying that my copy would be pushed back. Then I got an email today saying it would arrive on time. Now I'm just paranoid.
I ordered the deluxe edition directly from the Square Enix store so we’ll see. I am looking forward to it, but I’ve got plenty to do.
Will Persona 5 royal and Resident Evil 3 remake be affected by this as well?
I'm good as long as Amazon doesn't cancel my pre-order. FFVIIR is not a multiplayer game so it doesn't bother me if I don't get to play it day one.
