The PlayStation 5 deep dive is happening right now but Eurogamer.net has already posted a full breakdown of the next-gen console's specifications. The standout detail is that the PS5 will come packaged with 10.28 Teraflops of GPU power.
With the Xbox Series X coming in at 12 Teraflops, the Team in Green beats out Sony in this regard. However, we all need to remember that there is much more to a console than this unit of measurement alone. The PS5 will also have 36 CUs at 2.23GHz.
You can find all PS5's specifications and a comparison to Xbox Series X's specs through the link.

nOT EnouGH FlopS. 0/10 cONsole!!11111
It's official boys... We've lost.
Ah well, the price is more important to me. If itโs still more expensive than Xbox, thatโs when questions will be raised.
That stream is dire! I get some people are interested in the specifics in terms of specs, but is a man talking to a room about hard drives really how Sony want to kick start the next generation of gaming? We donโt even know what the console looks like yet!
we will always remember the software, all this hardware hype will not matter in the end. Any of you reminisce on the hardware when said generation is over?
WHAT A FLOP! ๐.......
Xbrick Ftw
and Xbox Series X has 52 CU's at 1.825Ghz.
@youreyesonly00 True but Sony is also losing the exclusives so what do we have in the end? A system that is not the most powerful and software that will play better on a PC ๐
Sony billed this for game developers but....yeah i had to turn it off ๐ i think Sony need something for gamers soonish - as much as this stuff is important.
Some internet commentators already writing PS5 off for not having as many flops, which seems a bit silly. Many things need to be considered- not least price.
But ultimately i have no idea what Mark is talking about, so i will just stick to waiting to see the games ๐
@zazzy
๐ฅฑ yawnage
oh no, they'll not stop going on about having more TFs now (still not sure what having an extra TF tangibly means).
It's over 9000 (GFLOP)!!!
Im learning and enjoying the stream. Apparently ps5 will 16 gddr 6 Ann's x series will have 14.
@Rob_230
Other things are being considered. Not only is PS5 less powerful than Xbox Series X, Sony is also losing exclusives left and right. I won't write it off but given what we know, Series X is the console I'm more interested in if I don't decide to just say screw both of these and get a PC. Price will be a big factor, maybe Sony will have some good news there when it's time to let us know.
No PS3 Backward Compatability?
CPU is much slower too but the hard drive is a lot quicker. I must say Mark Cerny has somehow made a console reveal a bit boring
Jesus this is dull, knew I shouldn't have got excited...
DEATH STRANDING 2, SPIDERMAN 2, THE LAST OF US 2, HORIZON ZERO DAWN2.
well, there you have it. #WordupSon
@Gamer83 what exclusives is Sony losing? I still think it's a savvy move putting Horizon on PC. I am concerned seeing Sony lose some if its 3rd party stuff like Yakuza mind! That is what sets them apart
As a Gamer the only thing that matters to me are the actual Games.... As Sony has that department nailed down
@Kasma88 its exactly what they did with the PS4 so this is exactly what I was expecting it to be
@youreyesonly00 actually yes. The original Xbox is way better at playing the 3rd party games compared to the Playstation 2.
So the difference is exactly the same as the difference between the OneX and the PS4Pro. 1.8TF. And as we all have already seen that difference is miniscule.
Ps4 and the switch/switch pro is the future for me, amazing exclusives all year round.
Sony should of made a digital only console aswell but instead of making it cheaper than the blu rays ps5 maybe they could beefed the specs up on that and keeps the cost the same
I think the next gen will start like X360 v PS3 and after 2 years or so it will be like Xbox X v PS4 Pro!
@Rob_230
The Japanese third party games that you mentioned which helped set PlayStation apart in the past (but third parties should put games on any platform that can run them competently), MLB The Show, Horizon and Sony has said more on the way. There's nothing savvy about putting Horizon on PC. Just means people who might've been tempted to get a PS5 for the sequel will wait for the inevitable PC version if it's not day and date, which as time goes on, Sony can change its plans to include day and date with PC releases. MLB The Show is an even bigger loss because it will be on everything. That also puts in people's minds that other games may cross over. And Sony isn't even doing backwards compatibility as well as MS. Right now, PS5 definitely isn't worth getting hyped about the way PS4 was back in 2013.
So having watched the presentation, it's clear Sony is going for inovation over raw power. My take aways are...
PS5 is really fast, faster than Xbox Series X.
Allows developers to make the games they want without loading corridors or lifts etc.
PS5 will be enviornmentally friendly.
Audio will be better than Xbox Series X.
Keeping costs down has been important to Sony, hence the 825GB internal storage. When you factor in the OS this means we are probably looking at 750GB for games.
Question though, will the external SSD drives be able to store and run PS5 games unlike the Xbox Series X?
I'd expect the PS5 to be cheaper than the Xbox Series X now.
@koaeinferno isn't the current xbox more powerful than the current ps4? yet who do we talk about the most & because why?
up to 10.28 at max BUT will vary and drop if the console gets too warm....
This is the MAX the console can hit but only when the conditions are right. If the Fan needs to kick in, it will draw some power away from the GPU so it will drop in frequency and therefore the Tflops will drop.
Not saying that is a 'bad' approach but its just Sony's way of doing it this generation. MS have a locked frequency so it will ALWAYS be running at 1.825Ghz delivering a constant 12.1 Tflops.
If you want to play Sony's games - as I do - then its the ONLY place to play...
@Spoonman-2 They seem to have essentially included a single PS3 CPU core As the sound chip should make emulation easier.
In the end, it's all about games. The switch has about half of xbox one s power but sold more than xbox in less time, the one that determined every console success is, fittingly, games.
So far more L's than W and at this point only W I can see is the custom SSD. Xbox SSD was performing slow. No backward compatibility with older consoles except PS4's is also BIG L.
I want ps5 pro already
@wiiware yeah, but most of the switch games run like dogshit
@stua12t Its running faster but also has a lot fewer cores - the CPU is a bit slower too. Running faster generates more heat but it won't always be running at full speed and you won't always get 10.28tflops - that is its Maximum...
SSD is operating the same way as Series X and like Series X can be expanded. So theoretically NO advantages. Both use a dedicated decompression to allow even more GB/s streaming.
Audio is not that different from Series X either - both offer 3D audio and MS have offered that since the Xbox One S. Both have a dedicated audio chip.
Power usage will be consistent because it will drop the frequency of the GPU to offset the power usage of the fan or drop the frequency to run like a PS4/Pro on BC games where as Xbox will run at 'full' speed regardless. If the fan needs to come on, that will draw more power for example but you will get a constant 12.1Tflops regardless of game or conditions.
At the end of the day, it looks like the PS5 will be cheaper (or should be) but its still the ONLY place to play playstation exclusives and will be needed for some new releases in the first year or two. Xbox exclusives will be available on XB1 S/X, PC and xCloud too so you don't 'need' to buy the Series X unless you want the benefits the Console offers over the other places to play.
In any case, I will still get both because I want to play games at the 'best' level possible on a console...
You know a ps5 pro is coming.so its?no surprise.haha.word up son
@Ryall
Sounds good to me, thanks
Iโd still buy one even if it didnโt have PS4 backward compatibility ๐
@Bamila Zelda botw, mario oddysey, splatoon 2, and mario kart 8 runs great on my switch.
I believe there's nearly no difference between 10.xx tf vs 12.xx tf, maybe if you zoom 300% like digital foundry you'll see xbox has better texture, or if you put both system at the same time you'll see xbox have 1-2 more frame persecond lol.
It's all about the (exclusives) games. That sold 10M+ of course, bad exclusives games won't sells system
I have no idea what any of this means...But so long as I get another Ratchet And Clank I'll be a happy man.
@koaeinferno
The og xbox came out nearly two years after the ps2 with a 733 mhz pentium compared to ps2 300mhz EE.
Not really a fair comparison tbh.
@Juanalf
PS5 is an elegant machine with an SSD twice as fast as the Series X, 3D audio built in, haptics in the controller, and a more efficient use of power.

@Juanalf what exclusives are they losing? Iโve only heard of Horizon. 3 years after its release. All I can find is speculation they arenโt doing exclusives. People seemed to run with the horizon announcement and apply it to everything. Though I canโt find a source nor has anyone provided anything other than speculation.
@Gamer83 i have to disagree on Horizon. Its a marketing strategy. Sony are not realistically going to sell many more copies on PS4, but have a huge audience to aim for on PC. Those that pick the game up on PC and love it may then be convinced to pick up the sequel and a PS5. Realistically Dreams will go to PC. It makes sense. But Sony won't be doing this with all of it's IP. Its been clear about that .
MLB was out of their hands too. They were faced with losing the licence, or being able to continue to develop the game on multiple platforms. They made the right call.
I agree with you regarding japanese titles though. Its what has always set Playstation apart, and seeing titles like the Trails series, Ys, Danganronpa, ni no kuni etc make their way to switch is disappointing as i have always felt these are the types of title that make playstation so appealing.
With only 36 CU against Xboxes 52 its not going to challenge it, its like overclocking a 2060 and expecting it to compete with a 2080. And just how long can it keep that 2.3 Ghz overclock before it starts to throttle. PS5 has to destroy the Xbox on price if it is going to compete.
@Rob_230
I just don't see Horizon selling consoles to PC gamers. Sure, it'll do well in that market, or at least should, but most of the people buying it have had a few years to get a PS4 and never made the move. Even if Horizon 2 isn't day and date on PC, they'll be content to wait for the inevitable release. This strategy of sharing games with PC never helped Xbox and it won't help PlayStation.
I'd still buy a PS5 quicker than I'd buy an XseriesX.
@beavis64 Actually, it was only the most powerful when Xbox One X came out. Unfortunately, the "damage" has already been done - if that's even a thing. However, even the 46-ish million sales that has been projected for Xbox One really isn't that bad.
Is it 100 million? No. But still not a complete failure. The Wii U was an almost complete failure.
Only fanboys fight this so-called "console war".
All I did was state a fact that was missing in this article. The article wanted to bring up PS5's CU's so I brought up Xbox Series X CU's.
I plan to get both an Xbox Series X and a PS5 on the same day (after both have been released and enough time has passed to discover any potential defects with the systems).
'I plan to get both an Xbox Series X and a PS5 on the same day (after both have been released and enough time has passed to discover any potential defects with the systems).'
That's a great approach and I'll probably do something similar. However, the only thing which currently makes me consider the PS5 is PSVR and the hope of better games. However, I'm not a fan of Sony's existing game library and I don't have much faith in the hope that it will substantially change in the future. When it comes to the XSX, that does appeal to me, as faster is usually always better when it comes to performance in games.
