We're pretty fortunate to have a PlayStation 4 Community that still sees some activity, but we wonder how many people interact with it on their phones? Not many, it would seem, as Sony has pulled the plug on the iOS and Android app dedicated to the PS4 feature.
Presumably closed due to a lack of activity, the PlayStation Communities app on smartphones no longer functions. If you try to boot up the application, you'll be greeted with the following message:
Thank you for using PlayStation Communities.
The service provided by this app has ended.
Please continue enjoying Communities on PS4.
Pretty straightforward, isn't it?
No reason for the shutdown is provided, but again, we can only put it down to a very small number of active users. Communities are still very much alive and kicking on PS4, of course -- you just can't view them on your smart device anymore. The app was around for just over three years, but now, you might as well delete the thing.

I don’t even know what these communities things are that show up on my PS4 to be honest.
I joined a bunch of communities once only to realize reading through it all on the ps4 is just jumbled and can't really tell who is talking who. Never touched it since. Maybe I should have downloaded the app..lol
Why? That app is essential for games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Nioh etc. and its multiplayer components. What the hack is Sony doing with shutting down so many things. Official Playstation Forums, Playstation Gear shop and now this?
Next it will be shut down on the PS4 as this rate
I always thought it strange how there were 3 different apps that you had to download, one for messages one for communities and a general one. Maybe there will be a new one for ps5 where it is all combined.
my guess why they shut it down is because people cant behave and follow the rules.
I can't believe they did this. I'm in a FFVII Remake group with over 2000 users and I was confused why yesterday, especially with the new Behind the Scenes video and all the new artwork and Wall market screens released, that there was hardly anyone commenting on the group.
Then I went into work this morning, fired up the app and got that msg. I won't even be able to post native image files to the community anymore since the version on PS4 only lets you attach images in your saved screenshots, it won't let you upload an image file directly from a USB.
There HAD to be a lot of people using it, more then on the actual PS4 system itself, which is far more awkward to type out msgs on then on a phone. I hope they don't screw up this PS5 update tomorrow with bad decisions like they did with this one.
Well this pretty much rendered communities useless for me, as they’re super frustrating navigating on the actual console. Seems Sony’s been shutting down more features lately than growing and adding anything new. Hopefully we’ll get some good news tomorrow and I’ll forget about the last 8 or so months.
Another reason why they might have shut down the psn community app is because recently like maybe 2 months ago Sony has banned psn users who posted selling their psn accs on PlayStation communities. Personally I think it's dumb because when the ps5 comes out many users would come back and use that app again or they should have just merged the psn app and the community app together
This is stupid. I used the community on my phone and now I have to navigate it on my console. Way to go PlayStation. Why can't you be like Microsoft and have it all in one freaking app🤦
Why has Sony shut down the Communities on the app? I used it alot, and I mean ALOT! I used it all the time to interact with people in communities. There were times where I'm away from my ps4 and I would still chat with people in the PS Communities. Now they've shut that app down, cause not enough people were using it? Now I have to wait until I get onto my PS4 just to check for notifications instead! 😣
I never used the app because I didn't know that it was a thing until yesterday. I would've used it everyday and I MEAN EVERYDAY! This is ridiculous, do you know how aggravating it is to navigate PS4 communites on console? You need to bring back the App for SmartPhones
Just as a note, despite the app's services ending, I still receive notifications for the communities I'm in. I just can't look at them on my phone.
I am so sick and tired of sony taking stuff like the psn communities app away.
Its a very helpful and useful app and regardless of how many people are or are not using it they should have kept it around.
Furthermore if they're hurting for money then get off your butt and come up with something that will bring in more revenue.

Hate it. It was awsome for coordinating play dates/time for multiplayer games like Farpoint when i was out & about & not in front of my console
Is this reason why nobody can just simply sign in to my PS4 with their phone just by scaning those numbers on screen with camera on phone?
