The Last of Us: Part II finally arrives later this year on 29th May. We're of course very much looking forward to it; Naughty Dog hasn't really put a foot wrong, and has been pushing the envelope in terms of presentation, characters, and storytelling for years now. Ellie's sophomore adventure should be fantastic.
The studio is keeping the game tightly under wraps, having only shown off a handful of trailers, but it seems confident in what it's making. Case in point: the game's co-director, Anthony Newman:
It's clear he posted this with real enthusiasm and excitement for what Naughty Dog is making. We must say, this sort of talk gets us amped up for the game's arrival in a few months. If the developers are excited, we probably should be too.
The anticipated sequel will be one of Sony's playable games at this year's PAX East, so you'll be able to discover for yourself if Newman's tweet is justified. Are you ready for Naughty Dog to "redefine triple-a" with The Last of Us: Part II? Look out for clickers in the comments below.

Love the confidence! With everything I’ve seen so far I have no doubt they will deliver. That on top of Neil’s last 3 games being Uncharted 2, The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 - all consensus game of the year winners. Naughty Gods can’t be touched!
They must be really really proud of their work but I think this kind of comments can only go public if feedback from "early players" is overwhelmingly positive. Hope so.
It's always nice to hear genuine enthusiasm and passion!
But... I kinda doubt it'll truly re-define anything. It's just gonna be more of the same high quality that people expect from a high budget project from a first party Sony Studio.
Really? I mean it looks good but so far there doesn't seem to be anything we haven't seen from the studio before in any of the footage. We'll wait and see
Will believe it when I see it.
I'm looking forward to it but I'm more excited for Cyberpunk 2077 which I think will redefine things more.
The gameplay they showed off at e3 2018 was the best I’ve ever seen https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=btmN-bWwv0A
The advanced AI - calling each other by name and actively hunting you down. The fluid combat animations. Recent demos with the dogs tracking you down. Weapon customization looks awesome too. Naughty Dog really improved upon the game mechanics. This along with what will no doubt be another masterpiece of story telling- just like The Last of Us before it with the PS3- Part II will be a perfect swan song for the PS4!
@3MonthBeef they can do any marketing moves they want, I only buy games that appeal to me. For sure this one is on top of my list, will be hard to keep away from it even if it's no the very best game ever... But mostly because I loved the first part so I'm interested in how the story unfolds.
The us steelbook edition is still unavailable on amazon
Maybe I'll buy it digitally if I can't find region 1 steelbook ed.
@wiiware Best Buy has the Special Edition and Collector's Edition.
We’ll see. She also made Uncharted 4, and that was one the biggest disappointments I’ve had in gaming. Now, don’t take that to mean it was a bad game, but when a series goes from 10/10 to 8/10 it’s disappointing. And I absolutely adore Uncharted.
@JustEddie I'm from asia so I can only buy the game on my local shop (region 3) or amazon (international shipping). And play-asia, I hope I can get the region 1 steelbook edition there.
Naughty Dog may well have been pushing the envelope in terms of presentation, characters, and storytelling but I've always found the gameplay lacking, so hopefully they've improved that area too.
Damn right they are. Naughty Dog is always pushing things forward. I don't think Cyberpunk is going to come close to the storytelling quality that TLOU 2 will have.
Stop it, man. I'm already hyped as it is! Anymore an I'll have a aneuri...
@Neolit
I enjoyed Uncharted 4 a lot but I had to stop lying to myself as well. After the initial 'wow' factor of the graphics and having a new Uncharted game wore off, I just wasn't as enamored as I had been with other Naughty Dog games. Certainly not like I was with Uncharted 2 or TLoU and while it's not the popular opinion I enjoyed the 'B' team effort on The Lost Legacy much more than a A Thief's End. I thought TLL was paced better and I liked the story better eventhough Drake wasn't a part of it.
How all this pertains to TLoU Part II? My anticipation is once again sky high, ND never makes anything less than good (at least imo) but I wouldn't be shocked if I have a similar feeling that I did playing Uncharted 4. Great game just not generation defining like the first TLoU absolutely was.
Can’t believe how y’all are talking about uncharted 4. Uncharted 3 was very weak after the masterpiece of uncharted 2 and I honestly thought Uncharted 4 topped uncharted 3 in every way and it was better than 2 in many ways. Yeah 4 had its weaknesses, my biggest one being him having a brother. But I was never bored with the gameplay or felt like it was dragging itself, it was an amazing story to finish off Nathan’s story and. I’ve played uncharted 4 more than any other uncharted game. Y’all need to chill and stop agreeing with the opinions of youtubers like freako and others like him
They really need to stop with these kind of posts. This is how people get their hopes up and end up disappointed.
@JR-jet-plane Just because the game is critically acclaimed doesn't mean everyone will love it. Personally Uncharted 2 and 3 were my favourite games on the PS3. But I couldn't bring myself to enjoy Uncharted 4 as much as I hoped. To me I felt 4 didn't have enough action as it was overly stealth focused. The puzzles and platforming were not as impressive as the original trilogy and the story kind of bored me. I thought Drake was mostly uninterested throughout the journey and he pretty much did everything for the sake of his selfish brother. I'm not saying Uncharted 4 is a bad game, there were some great moments but for me, it took a dive as it felt heavily influenced by The Last of Us and less like Uncharted. Uncharted 4 is a narrative and stealth heavy game, but it ultimately failed to be a fun third person shooter/platformer action-adventure thriller the series was known for. I think I would've enjoyed 4 more if this was my first Uncharted game.
Someone must have extremely high standards to call Uncharted 4 disappointing. Do we expect devs to deliver the next Sgt. Pepper's with every new release?
@Jaz007 If a 8/10 is their biggest dissapointment then we will be safe i guess. Uncharted is great the Last of Us is epic for me loved the story and Ellie was my favorite character ever so i cant wait for part 2. 😃
But Uncharted is finished in my book the ending is great so lets just move on too something new.
@Linux7055 I personally think its a great closer on too new things. Maybe his daughter as wildlife photographer or something in space with a new set of characters. 😃
It's kind of like they want me to buy it....
@Linux7055 Lol As if the "puzzles" were anything impressive in the Uncharted games. Puzzles were neat but they're made for third graders. Also you don't need to play it stealthily. Some areas are even good for action like in Madagascar. There's even plenty of action sequences and great set pieces like the Jeep. Also how is Nathan doing something like search for a treasure to keep his brother alive a bad thing? What kind of sense does that make? He retired from treasure hunting, he didn't want to do it anymore until Sam made up a story about needing to go on a treasure hunt for Alcazar.
@DonJorginho now you saw it and are you angry and sending death threats to the cast and crew?
