2K Games has officially announced the new name of one of its youngest development studios. What was once known as 2K Silicon Valley is now named 31st Union. The studio was founded last year and is headed up by Michael Condrey, previously of Sledgehammer Games.

In 2K's statement, Condrey seems pretty excited about the company's future. "31st Union is off to an incredible start with a passionate and talented team, an intentioned culture that champions inclusivity and greater representation, and an ambitious and inspired new IP that we’re extremely excited about," he says.

31st Union is also opening new offices in Spain, and it sounds like it has further plans to expand more in the long-term. According to the press release, it's now 2K's fourth studio with multiple locations, alongside Cloud Chamber (which is making a new BioShock), Hangar 13 (known for the Mafia series), and Visual Concepts (NBA and WWE).

We've obviously no idea what the studio's new IP will be, but Condrey talks a big game. Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, he says the game is "the most ambitious project I've ever been a part of". Head of Strategy Tyler Michaud told the site: "Our ambition is to create a game that changes the way people play and think about interactive entertainment." Bold claims indeed.

We're certainly looking forward to seeing what the newly dubbed 31st Union cooks up in the future.
