Update: The January 2020 PlayStation Plus games are available in both Europe and North America now.
Original Article: January 2020's PlayStation Plus games are available to download now from the PlayStation Store. In case you haven't heard, subscribers get access to Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Goat Simulator this month. The former's quite a hefty download, while the latter, er, isn't.
The reaction to the two PlayStation 4 titles has been mixed to say the least. According to our own community poll on the matter, 57 per cent of users told us they aren't happy with the selection.
What do you make of January's lineup? Will you be downloading either game? Add to library in the comments section below.

I seriously don't get the issue with this lineup.
We weren't expecting anything of quality this month so to get one of the greatest trilogies in gaming and one of the funnest indie titles of the last decade compared to last months disaster with the bargain bin duo we received, should be considered a welcome surprise.
Even if you have already played these titles, it doesn't mean hundreds of thousands more new and existing customers won't enjoy these two.
Some people need to remember that PS Plus isn't catered to just themselves and need to accept that they won't get their dream picks.
You can't please everyone.
@DonJorginho I'd love to be able to click the little heart under your comment more than once. Very well said.
This is a month for the PS4 newcomers. Here's hoping all of them will enjoy this trilogy of Sony's finest exclusives, whilst also getting a lot of laughs out of the random nonsense game they can use to break up the three blockbusters!
@RogerRoger So so true and thank you for the kind words!
This is one of the biggest months we've had in a while in regards to new customers and to offer these games to them will only strengthen the bond between Playstation and their customers.
This is a genuinely decent-ish month compared to some of the average months like December etc.
I personally haven't completed the first two Uncharted games and was actually looking to purchase the collection so am genuinely happy with this myself!
@RogerRoger @DonJorginho I don't agree, sorry. These are games that released on PS4 over five years ago, that released on every last generation console, and can be bought for less than 10. Goat Simulator sold for less than 3 euro.
This exact problem with this line-up is that it's not catering to a big crowd at all. You think someone who didn't own a game console ever before and got a PS4 for Christmas wants to play a 2007 game and a mediocre indie (that everyone has forgotten about), or does that person rather want a game like Celeste, Yoku's Island Express, Ratchet and Clank, etc. etc.
Just look at the games released for free on the Epic store this last year. That's way more value than PS Plus.
You can calculate how much its value has fallen over the years. Please don't act like that didn't happen.
@Kidfried I think you need to be more realistic, Sony are never going to give us games of a high quality like Celeste, neither are they going to give exclusives that have released in the last 4 years very often.
A lot of people actually haven't got round to playing the PS3 Era Uncharted trilogy that I know and the ability to do so with updated visuals is very pleasing for them so that is already some people in the user base happy.
And if we are being honest here, most indie games get forgotten about after a while, all the hype for games like FNAF, Undertale, WHTEF, they all lose that hype after a while as more indies come around and better games come around that just outshine the indies before.
Am I saying Goat Simulator is a masterpiece that deserves to be heralded for eternity? Heavens no, but is it a fun game that will give owners some enjoyment, 100% yes.
We ALL know this month (and almost every month) of PS Plus can be better, but it simply never will be so I don't see kicking up a fuss every month changing anything.
I agree and never dispelled the fact that the value hasn't fallen of PS Plus and the games included, all I am saying is, compared to last month (a walking disaster), this isn't so bad in the long run.
PS Plus is easily the worst subscription service, but is that a surprise to anyone?
The company I work for announced record profits last year and two weeks later offered us what was essentially a pay cut, Sony have just announced record numbers of psn customers and given one of the cheapest months ever out in games...that being said I'm not too bothered about the games, I have had a great time with both and hope the few people left to play them will enjoy them!!
@DonJorginho "Sony are never going to give us games of a high quality like Celeste, neither are they going to give exclusives that have released in the last 4 years very often."
Except for... they actually did. I don't think you've been a long time PS Plus member, because we used to get a lot of great games. We used to get better games, and more of them, for less money. In the mean time Sony's profit has risen, by the way.
Honestly I don't get what you're trying to defend. I used to be a big defender of PS Plus from the start until about 2018. But it's not the same value for money anymore.
And every person on Earth can do the math. I don't get why you're going against numbers.
@Kidfried I have been a PS Plus member since 2012 when we used to have a vast array of games to choose from and know of the quality we used to get so don't get your point there.
When I talk about PS Plus not giving us games of quality I am talking about recent form, you could go back to anytime if you really wanted to make it look good but I am talking about last few years which imo haven't been good enough.
Ever since they cut off PS3 support and then chose to raise prices later down the line they have gotten worse and worse, odd months recovered their reputation but for the majority it has been a steep decline.
I don't think you're even reading my points, I am not defending PS Plus or Sony, I am just defending the fact that this month isn't as disastrous as some are making it out to be, it is average, but better than the last few months for me anyway, that doesn't hide the fact that PS Plus is a terrible service (like I said in my last reply), so how is that defending?
And what numbers are you talking about? The fact for the money we have paid we are getting scammed in the value of games we recieve? The fact that PS Plus subscriptions are at an all time high yet Sony have the price of it at it's peak despite offering a slither of the quality they used to before, or are we talking about the fact that these month's games are worth around £12 in value?
I have not disputed ANY of these, just am saying for what it is, this month isn't the worst we have seen, it doesn't mean it is good, great or amazing, it is generally mediocre, but what more should we expect from such a lacklustre service?
I have mixed feelings about this month, I think it’s a very poor show from Sony but uncharted will prob be the first thing I’ve downloaded from the service in months. Conflicted.
@m1349 No one is saying we aren't though lol, just the fact that there is nothing any of us can do about it so I am not as fussed anymore.
@DonJorginho we could unsubscribe, it’s only the cloud saves that stop me. If I could easily back up to my personal cloud I would unsubscribe in a second now and I’ve had a sub since day one.
@DonJorginho There was never anything we could do about it. Just like I can't change global warming, or animal welfare. But the fact that you got tired of complaining, accepted the sad reality that is PS Plus in 2020, doesn't mean that those who are still complaining are less right or should just shut up.
@m1349 I understand that but unless everyone did it, Sony wouldn't give a toss.
I want change to happen, but not enough people are willing to cancel their subscriptions.
@Kidfried I am not saying those who are complaining should shut up, if anything I have even more respect for them and appreciate them for having the willpower I don't anymore.
I am just saying this month out of all of them, isn't the one to be kicking the biggest fuss over.
@Robinsad same thing for me, cloud saves make my PS Plus subscription somewhat worth it in some way.
@DonJorginho And that we disagree on.
@DonJorginho Also, sorry I'm an intense debater. I read all of your comments, really. Hope I didn't offend you or whatever in any way.
yo i just got the uncharted games for christmas a couple days ago...
@Robinsad What about leaving a USB drive in your PS4 and just backing stuff up to there? I know it's more convenient if it's automatic like with the cloud saves, but you'll only need to back up whatever few games you've played recently, and only every few days.
@Kidfried I'm not gonna jump in halfway to a debate that continued in my absence, nor am I going to dispute that PS Plus membership used to give more games to its subscribers. I cannot and will not discuss game "quality" here, as one person's trash is another's treasure, so that's an impossibly subjective topic to try and answer.
All I will observe is that, by your math, a newcomer's annual PS Plus subscription will have paid for itself by April, leaving eight months of actually-free games to come.
And using Nathan Drake as that deal's poster boy makes a heck of a lot of marketing sense to me.
Let's not forget, PS Plus isn't just about getting "free" games. It's a subscription to Sony's online multiplayer elements, both granting access to their first-party servers and funding their support of third-party games of all shapes and sizes, as well as paying for the PS4's online social elements and interconnectivity. The "free" games are a bonus. Back in the PS3 era, Sony didn't have to charge for its online features, because they were on the back foot against Microsoft (who were charging) and online gaming was still in its infancy. Today, more people are using PSN than ever before, and its ageing infrastructure will only ever become more expensive to maintain.
And yet, did it crash over Christmas? Did it heck.
I've been a PS Plus subscriber for years now, and I think I've downloaded and played a grand total of, what, three of the "free" games? Because I'm not paying for them. They're never anything I want to play anyway, as I'm very selective about what I play.
I'm paying for Sony to provide a much broader service. I'm paying for the random days that I wanna play Star Wars: Battlefront II and Team Sonic Racing online. I'm paying to share my Photo Mode screenshots within relevant, like-minded Community groups. I'm paying to occasionally chat to fellow forum members whilst playing games with them.
If people want a subscription service for games, then I'd recommend EA Access or something on another platform. PS Plus has never been a game-based subscription service.
That's what PS Now is for, surely?
@Kidfried for ratchet and clank, are u talking about the ps3 collection to the ps4 or the 2016 version of the game?
Ive tried out goat sim for the 1st time and ya'll are right about this game,i don't like it at all,bc...
1 the controls are a bit stupid and hard to do
2. It doesn't tell u what to do just lets u smash stuff
3. Its just a goat destroying stuff.
This game Shouldn't have been created in the 1st place. Sony is doing worse these past few months and thats why im gonna not extend my subscription and not gonna touch it till they do a better job and all.
Who else agrees with me on this?
@RogerRoger you say ps plus has never been a game subscription service whilst at the same time acknowledging at one point that was the sole purpose of it.
@Kidfried Indeed we may do lol, but life is boring if you agree on everything 😉
@Kidfried I can assure you that you didn't offend me at all and it was nice to have a knowledgeable debate with someone who could actually argue their points with facts and not curse words or blind insults.
I respect you immensely and appreciate you having this debate with me!
@Trajan I would have put NSO last actually but for only £18 a year compared to the £40 of PSN it isn't that bad.
@Robinsad With respect, I didn't, and I apologise if my wording wasn't clear enough to convey that.
I said that PS Plus is "...a subscription to Sony's online multiplayer elements, both granting access to their first-party servers and funding their support of third-party games of all shapes and sizes, as well as paying for the PS4's online social elements and interconnectivity. The "free" games are a bonus."
Sony only started charging for PS Plus when it needed to, in order to generate income to supports its online services and multiplayer functionality. This discussion is about a current subscription's value for money (or, as some would argue, its lack thereof).
And besides, services evolve over time. They have to. I'm pretty sure PS Plus might work a little differently by the time we're anticipating the launch of the PlayStation6.
Uncharted is a very good series on the playstation and it makes sense to provide the "classics" for PS+
That is good for new PS owners and bad for us who played those already.
BUT ... why this crap goat game?
Some cheap steam-powered game would be much better.
@RogerRoger With respect
PS Plus has never been a game-based subscription service.
They are your exact words
@Robinsad Um... yeah, sorry, that just re-affirms the point I've been making. PS Plus has never been a subscription service based solely around getting "free" games. It's a service to access PlayStation's online functionality, which happens to come with "free" games.
Apologies, I'm not deliberately trying to be obtuse. I'm just struggling to see what you've read into my replies, s'all. No offence intended.
@RogerRoger that’s what I’m saying though, until the PS4 it solely was about the games. So how can you say it’s never been a game service when it clearly has. They only added the online to it when they realised they could get away with.
I’m curious as to why you want to defend mediocrity from a company taking your money.
@Robinsad Except it wasn't solely about the games and it never has been, that's entirely my point. From Wikipedia (terrible source, I know, but I'm short on time):
"PS Plus... [includes] early access to upcoming games, beta trials, regular store discounts, and the ability to have system software updates and game patches download automatically to the console. As part of the subscription, members are given two PlayStation4 games every month and 100Gb of internet storage space for saved game files."
If what you're saying were true, that would likely read "PS Plus is a subscription service for two free games every month, and there's this other stuff you get as well." The biggest misconception about PS Plus is that it's something you pay for in order to get free games; it isn't, it's a passport to the full digital ecosystem of PlayStation, as part of which you happen to get given some "free" games every four weeks.
And for my money, I don't consider that mediocre, even when I barely download any of those "free" games myself.
Sorry if you, and many others, do.
