Mixed martial arts is not everyone’s cup of tea, but EA Sports UFC 3 once again builds upon Fight Night’s extremely realistic physics, making for a bone-crunching sports game that will have you wincing while you’re winning. The animations are outstanding, and while the campaign can be a little formulaic, this is worth playing purely for the visual razzle-dazzle on display.

The two-minute drill is the bedrock of any great American football team, and in this PSVR exclusive you’re the quarterback tasked with getting your team down the field. Pairing an impressive motion controlled throwing mechanic with the ability to physically draw your own plays makes this an enticing arcade title for NFL fans – and there’s now even an asymmetrical local multiplayer mode where one player tries to blitz the headset-wearing QB by playing defence on the television screen.
13. Steep (PS4)
Ubisoft’s done right by open world extreme sports title Steep, expanding upon it with regular updates, including a licensed Winter Olympics mode. While competition is at the core of most sports games, this outdoorsy experience is much more chill – and not just because it takes place in arctic conditions. With a variety of different disciplines to master, spanning skiing through to wingsuits, its fun simply exploring this title’s mountain ranges and finding new ways to navigate them.
12. FIFA 20 (PS4)
FIFA 20 is in the worst form of its life, with the EA Sports soccer sim launching in a dreadful state. There are welcome improvements to the Career Mode, but unfortunately the popular method of play has botched the basics, with bugs resulting in a borderline broken experience. The much-publicised Volta Mode is a bit of an own goal, the commentary is poor across the board, and Ultimate Team continues to be riddled with microtransactions. It’s a disappointing off-year for EA Sports’ flagship franchise.
11. F1 2019 (PS4)
Real-world Formula One drivers are fitter than most athletes, so F1 2019 unquestionably qualifies as one of the PS4’s best sports games. With a deep campaign that sees you developing your own car, as well as all of the circuits and teams from the actual F1 season, Codemasters has comfortably steered this racer onto our list.
