This came out of nowhere: Sony has just announced the DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment. This new add-on for your PlayStation 4 controller essentially gives you an extra two buttons, which you can fully customise. The paddle-style inputs can be programmed to any command on the DualShock 4 to grant you faster, or easier, access.

The gadget connects to your PS4 controller via the headphone jack and will clip into place, with the two paddles sitting along the back of the pad. Between these new inputs is a fancy circular screen you can use to program the buttons. You'll be able to store up to three profiles, and switch between them by double-clicking the screen. Additionally, if you're worried about this thing using up the headphone jack, you can plug your cans into the bottom of this device instead.

It's a pretty tight design for an add-on like this, and that's to be expected of a Sony-made peripheral. Yes, this is an in-house product PlayStation has created to allow players a little more flexibility. Quite why Sony has never produced its own full-blown pro / elite controller for PS4 is a mystery, but this effectively turns your regular DualShock 4 into one.

It will retail for $29.99 / €29.99, and will be released early in 2020 -- 23rd January in North America, and 14th February in Europe. What do you think of the Back Button Attachment?
