5. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (PS4)

One of the chief concerns from sceptics unconvinced by PlayStation VR is that it blocks your vision from the real-world. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes uses this unique scenario to its advantage, displaying a bomb disposal manual on the television screen while the headset wearer inspects an explosive. The title requires the two parties to be in constant communication in order to successfully disarm the dynamite, and the result is intense, satisfying co-op.
4. Destiny 2 (PS4)
Regardless of issues with the overall game, Destiny 2 can still be a great co-op experience with the right Guardians by your side. Up to three players can team up at any one time in order to explore intricate overworld areas or take on exciting Strikes. The latter sees you blast your way through bite-sized adventures that always end with a big old boss. Meanwhile, if you can wrangle together six buddies, you can tackle the Raid for a heftier challenge.

3. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (PS4)
Going toe-to-toe with giant monsters alone is perfectly acceptable – assuming you have the skills – but when the going gets really tough, you'd best call in some help. Monster Hunter World allows up to four players to band together and bash some beasts in co-op, opening up a whole range of strategic options. With other hunters backing you up, there's even more gameplay depth to explore, and finding the most efficient way to slay a particularly troublesome creature is super rewarding. What's more, the game's Iceborne expansion rebalances co-op play depending on your party size, which makes multiplayer hunts better than ever.
2. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition (PS4)

The PS4's best loot-'em-up is also one of its best co-op games. The whole Diablo III: Reaper of Souls experience is tailored for both local and online multiplayer, as heroes form an unstoppable team and raid the deadliest of randomised dungeons. Showing off your sweet gear is part of the fun, as is watching in awe as your coop pal appears to tear through difficulty levels that you were having trouble with. And of course, Diablo being Diablo, there's almost an infinite amount of stuff to do – and doing it is never not satisfying.
1. Overcooked 2 (PS4)

The first game was already our favourite couch co-op experience on PS4, and this sequel makes little improvements across the board. The chaotic cooking game is better than ever, thanks to the inclusion of online play and gameplay tweaks like the ability to throw items. With both online and offline play and featuring dozens of fiendishly challenging kitchens, Overcooked 2 serves up top notch co-op on PS4.

Bit of a mesh here, multiplayer and co-op aren't the same for me personally, co-op is something you can sit on the sofa and play together on the one screen half of which they don't offer that.
And 0 fighting games for shame.
@Tekken179 These games all offer co-op?
Where's guacamelee, and later this month, guacamelee 2?
@Quintumply
I believe he means local co-op
I'm so tempted to get Diablo 3 again...
I really like titanfall 2 coop, though not everybody’s cup of tea, I’d certainly pick it over most these games. Obviously the PS4 is crying out for a new toejam and earl game
Monster Hunter World should be number one no questions ask, Rayman legends it's also to low and I would also add unravel 2 love that game I still can't believe it comes from EA
Maybe this list could be split in 2 one for couch co-op and one for online co op. I must admit when I hear co op I think of games being played on the same screen.
@bindiana @Quintumply exactly this, I hear co-op I immediately associate it with local co op as does others it seems lol. Most of these I’d call multiplayers 😂
@Tekken179
Well, we're all different. When I think of coop, I always view it as being able to play with friends on the Internet, and not some throwback 90's, distractingly small split screen, couch coop affair, that the majority of people don't want.
If you can play with friends against the story or mainly AI controlled enemies..... then its co-op. Its not just local. Top think like that takes away from gamers who don't live close enough, so they play online.
And to be technical, the moment you have more than 1 player, even locally, its multiplayer.
Who's this list for? To me, online co-op is something totally different than couch-op or local co-op, with totally different games being the top tier.
For example: Rayman, Badlands, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris and Overcooked to me are absolute couch op games which lose their flair online. On the other hand, half of the titles listed here can't even be played with two players on one console. And if online coop counts, shouldn't all games with a Team Deathmatch and stuff also be included?
Please differentiate couch-op and local co-op. <3
@Scarbir
I took this coop list to mean playing together either locally or online in a game as a team trying to achieve a goal together hence no teamdeath match, fighting games or sports games where you are competing against each other. Hence playing cooperatively
The list is fine. As the comment show, for some people, local co-op is what they want, for others online is fine.
It suits different people, and different games. There's a good mix of both.
Love Uncharted, The Division, and Wildlands. But I never have anyone to play with 😢.
@Hengist @Tekken179 Lol for me co-op means with someone else whether it's online with someone or they are in the same room as you or a mixture of both like in Borderlands 2. Guess it just means something different to everyone.
Missing Magicka 2
Once again Salt and Sanctuary gets neglected...
A list of top couch co-op games would be appreciated...
There's nothing like playing with friends in a room while munching on snacks, having a beer and complaining about life...
A way out is the one that really appeals to me on this list but I've only got one mate who games and trying to find time for a couple of sessions to play this is a nightmare! Really like the idea of local coop shared narrative game. Anyone played it online and feel it was still alright?
Earth defense force
Awesomenauts
Dungeon defenders
Guacamelee
@R1spam I only played it online, and I thought it was brilliant. Played it over two 3-4 hour online sessions.
Well I know why we own a Switch, couch co-op.
Our PS4 gets the most multiplayer use w/ couch vs game DBXV2. Which I thought my kid and his friend always played co-op vs CPU but maybe they just fight each other, never paid that much attention to who was doing what on screen, I'll have to ask.
A co-op list, even in 2018, without a single Lego game seems kind of weird. I know the toys-to-life genre is dead so leaving off Starlink, which I beleive has couch co-op, is to be expected.
I'd love a list that is this, but kid friendly, couch co-op. I'm always looking for new games to play with my kids.
Where is Fallout 76?
@Tekken179 true.. List seems odd... Mk, SC, tekken .. And these should all be sofa games ✌
@Tekken179
Couldn't agree more, if it's online it doesn't feel like co-op, just a better multiplayer because you're not playing with some random idiot that doesn't know what they're doing or behaves like a prick...
Maybe I'm just old, but I think couch co-op is the only true co-op...
It's certainly more fun
Sadly a good chunk of these aren't local co-op. I wish they would bring that feature into more games.
@Hengist I'd argue that many people want that, especially if you grew up in the 90's. There's something nostalgic about it. Don't get me wrong, playing online is fantastic, but sometimes having someone next to you and just chillin' and playing games can't be beaten.
Unfortunately, I don't classify online games as co-op.
My not the newer Diablo III Eternal Collection?
The voice acting in "A Way Out" is phenomenally cringy
The Division is a great online co-op game, as is Ghost Recon: Wildlands. I think you should have probably split the list up into online co-op and couch co-op as it's not the same thing really, but a nice list with some nice games.
I've never played half of them so can't really comment on those that I have not played but I hope everyone gets to enjoy some game time over the Christmas period Happy Christmas all.
@GarySan YES. love that game.
No Rocket League? SHAME!
I swear this article rears it's head on PushSquare every couple of weeks?!
@badbob001 It's the exact same.game.as the Ultimate Edition only difference is the addition of the Necromancer.
@Hengist Right and people want online co-op especially when the servers are down 😉
@Tasuki Or even worse, you're sat there one evening, and the electricity goes out. Then you'd have to play in the dark.
Well, the cover picture suggests that this is article about couch co op, which it is not...
If you ONLY want to see what the best couch multiplayer games are, mabe this list of mine will help. https://medium.com/@scarbir/best-local-4-player-games-ps4-3904dc150cc3
The list needs far more Earth Defense Force.
"Until Borderlands 3 rolls around, this is one of the better co-op shooters on PS4."
@glassmusic
The list has been updated.
@Quintumply Cool cool! I wasn’t being snarky or anything, just trying to be helpful. I love this site!
@glassmusic Haha it's all good!
I think for Couch Co-Op you need to add Plants Vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.
This game has full split screen in all the single player missions/story and online. Plus you can go head to head.
It is a lot more fun that I thought it would be.
