Sony may be preparing for the release of the PlayStation 5 in Holiday 2020, but that’s not stopped it from thinking about the future. Over in Japan, the manufacturer has filed trademarks for the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, and PS10. This is obviously just security, but it’s still rather amusing to see; realistically, we wouldn’t expect a hypothetical PlayStation 10 to launch until 2055 or so.
What would a PS10 even look like? Will we still be playing games with a traditional DualShock controller, or will we connect the console directly to our brains? Seriously, though, will classic games systems even exist that far into the future? Streaming looks set to upset the current model, so it’s perfectly possible that the PlayStation of the future will merely be an app.

Even though this is just silly brand protecting this does give me hopes for the future of game consoles and physical media.

The only way a PlayStation 10 console may exist is it has games you can play only on PlayStation consoles.
