10. Warframe

Sometimes it's hard to believe that Warframe is a free-to-play release. With satisfying core gameplay and a load of bite-sized missions as well as open world areas to explore, it's a game that can eat up a surprising amount of your time. There's always something to work towards, whether it's a cool new frame (read: playable character type) or a ridiculous looking weapon, and the title's more than happy to keep you supplied with challenges and daily routines to keep you coming back again and again.

9. Borderlands 3

No other game on this list offers up loot like Borderlands 3 and its constant shower of often absurd weaponry. Gearbox has nailed its formula with this third instalment, crafting a gameplay loop that's consistently rewarding in all the right ways. The icing on the cake, though, is that fact that Borderlands 3 plays so much better than its predecessors. More movement options give you a welcome sense of speed and momentum, while the tight, punchy gunplay is right up there with the best that the looter shooter genre has to offer.

8. Destiny 2

It may be divisive, but Destiny 2 remains a serious time sink for anyone who enjoys its balance of superb gunplay and loot chasing. Whether you play alone or with a fireteam, there's usually a good reason to dive into Destiny on a daily basis, grinding your way to that next milestone. Bungie has done some great work with refining Destiny 2 over the years, and it remains one of PS4's most addictive titles for many a player.

7. Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is basically a full-blown RPG, and grinding for sweet loot is a big part of that. As you journey through the game's gigantic map of ancient Greece, you're handed endless opportunities for adventure -- and these adventures usually end with a treasure chest or two. Odyssey's just one of those open world titles that you can get lost in for hours on end, levelling up your hero and acquiring powerful abilities, skills, and perks in the process. A never-ending pursuit for those who want it.

6. Dragon's Crown Pro

Vanillaware's sumptuous action RPG offers a brilliant grind for loot. Thanks to beautiful visuals and a stunning orchestral score, each dungeon run is a joy to be a part of, and there's a fantastic risk versus reward mechanic at play if you decide to fight your way through multiple stages without taking a break. Hugely addictive stuff from one of Japan's most underappreciated studios.
