"Tattoos and hairstyles" but it's mostly 1st person... I'm guessing you can only view these in cutscenes. 3rd person for this game should've definitely been an option. I'm forced to believe the conspiracy theory about them pulling a GTAV and offering 3rd person enhanced edition for PS5 for double dips. And why's gender even a deal, I mean Skyrim let's people be lizards if they want.

The only remotely not-standard thing here is not tying the 1 of two whole voices to a body type.

A welcome option. More choice is always good and in an RPG, it helps to be able to make a character that really represents you as a person.

@Futureshark By definition, one cannot be both gender-fluid and transgender. Trans people have a specific gender identity - the opposite of what they were assigned at birth. Gender-fluid people, a sort of catch-all term across both androgyny and non-binary, don't have one specific gender identity and 'flow' between what society usually deems as 'male' and 'female' identities. Yes, I'm fully aware your comment was an attempt at a dumb joke at the expense of the groups with some of the highest suicide rates in the world but I thought education would be a better reply than just saying that you're wrong and really not that funny.

I'll give CDPR the benefit of the doubt because they've generally made the games they want to make without caving to the outrage crowd at places like ResetEra. But given some of what I've read here, I'm a bit concerned they're going full politically correct and I hate that approach because when you try to appease everybody you appease nobody.

Choosing a body type kind of makes my character sound like a robot from the get-go. What will be the point in trying to remain human if you sound like your character just came out of a factory to begin with?

1. 'More priveleges [sic]'? Whatever way you cut it, the LGBT+ community has either less privileges or are on hopefully equal footing with whatever the dominant group is in your selected country. Even then, that only extends to the LGB. Trans people in my country, Scotland, are considerably more well off than a lot of other countries including the good old USA. There, there still isn't federal law requiring equal treatment of transgender people. This isn't including the many countries where being anything other than straight or cis is illegal and carries a jail sentence or possibly death.

2. Japanese males obviously matter? The two groups having serious problems with suicide aren't mutually exclusive so this is a non-argument. Moving on.

3. Snowflake protection I assume refers to umbrellas and hooded jackets which do provide welcome relief from snowy conditions.

4. Calling trans people mentally ill isn't only offensive, it's seriously outdated. While many trans people experience gender dysphoria, that literally means that they feel distress due to their birth-assigned sex not matching their gender identity. Which makes sense as they would feel distress, wouldn't they? The reason it is sometimes mistakenly classed as a mental disorder is that very often, disorders crop up due to the distress caused. If there were less people calling trans people mentally ill, maybe they wouldn't be as distressed, eh?

All this effort for a character you can't see 90% of the time. Just please add 3rd ppov mode so we can truly appreciate all you created.

The more they talk the more I lose interest in this game. Still no gameplay and they keep talking about gender and other issues that are irrelevant to video games. I just want to play a good game and enjoy it, not worry about what body type I can select. This is all they have been promoting. I will pass on this game.

Nothing wrong with as many options as possible, but I am a straight male and now the option to be male is removed which actually takes away options.

None of these studios were screaming 'girl power' from the top of their lungs and making stuff about identity politic nonsense. @Gamer83 Right. Dorian and Vivian were two of my favorite characters in Dragon Age: I and they were LGBTQ. I also love Elle from The Last of Us and Bill was a good character. They were handled properly without promoting their sexuality. You didn't know until you played the games.

@Kidfried I usually like playing user created chara on open ended games like oblivion and skyrim, but I think it’s a little weird for games like mass effect, where we get the name of the chara but we created the looks ourselves.

But yeah, if cyberpunk is open ended like oblivion or skyrim, it’s more apt to make the character ourselves.

Of course the cynic in me says that "they" could be used for referring to V in the third person. That way they don't have bother with re-recording or coding in the other options!

Just make an all female or all male protagonist when the game releases and treat them as such if that's what you wanna do, no one will stop you.

Plus it's in first person so you'll probably only see your character like ten or so times!

I see it as virtue signalling and nothing more; CDPR making out that their seemingly pretty limited/mostly standard character creation options are about diversity and inclusion. When really they are just there.

Even in the interview they conflate sex and gender, which makes me feel that they really are just ticking boxes.

It makes nigh on no difference in a game which appears to be mostly about transhumanism rather than transgenderism. In which case, it would be nice to perhaps just go with biological sex and then have at it with gender decorations. Perhaps even include all 73 genders?!

Sex is not 'assigned' at birth, it is observed. Gender as a social construct based around sexual characteristics and patriarchy - and many trans people unfortunately have spent the last few years reinforcing gender stereotypes rather than dismantling them.
Trans 'suicide' figures are largely inflated, it's a regularly trotted out statement that trans people suffer more violence/suicide/'oppression'. Figures are fudged.
Wherever you plant your tent-pole, I wouldn't suggest to the trans 'community' at large that they cannot be gender fluid
GD is mental illness despite efforts to reclassify it and often these days coincides with a rapid onset based on social contagion. There is also far more for big pharma to gain by leading with affirmation treatments rather than anything else.
Affirmation isn't the only course.

after all it's a story and isn't the point of a story to see a journey from another point of view

it's why when i played Mass Effect for example i just used default Shep and when i play this i'm just going to be using the default character too

as for if my character will be the male or female one well i'm not sure, i'll probably do what i normally do in that situation and flip a coin

of course that is how i ended up with Alexios in AC Odyssey and he is no where near as good as Kassandra

They did this after the game was 90% complete it was not a design choice and was not their intention from the start as some people say, this comes from the developers themselves.
